2399 Badge, like Discovery and Kelvin is locked to it's uniform. Cryptic: FREE THE BADGES!

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 11:56 AM PST

Before the Kelvin Timeline uniforms were released EVERY badge that was available was useable on every single uniform. I can use a bajoran badge on my odyssey uniform or odyssey badge on TOS and so on. When the TOS expansion came they added every single TOS badge useable on almost every uniform in the game.

Now the KT is not prime and while I don't agree it is somewhat understandable to not be useable on regular starfleet. Discovery and Picard are PRIME TIMELINE SHOWS. There is no reason why these badges should not be useable on all Prime and STO Starfleet uniforms. Unless CBS is specifically saying NO there is no reason that I can fathom to justify locking them to the one single uniform. Worse, the Section 31 badge from DSC CAN be used on all Uniforms so there is no logic here at all.

Cryptic, fix this. If they are locked because they are free than fine, put the 2399, Disco, and KT uniforms in the freaking Zen store. I'd gladly drop $5/10 just to get these badges unlocked for all uniforms.

The Tailor and costume creator in STO is one of the best parts of the game and it is a shame that over the last few years it is being made more exclusive and not more open. Free the badges and let DSC, 2399, and ideally Kelvin badges be useable on all uniforms.

If it is impossible due to something from CBS than at least tell us that because right now I see no legitimate reason for these badges to be locked away.

Thought Exercise for Experienced/Knowledgeable Players: Chance to earn one of (1) Platinum and (5) Golds! Some 10th Anniversary Fun...

    Posted: 24 Jan 2020 09:05 AM PST

Let's have some fun and change things up around here a little...

Thought Exercise for Experienced/Knowledgeable Players and a chance to earn Reddit Coins as a reward - giving away 1 Platinum and 5 Golds minimum

    tl;dr

As a new player with YOUR vast STO knowledge, what order would YOU spend your Zen on with the coming 80% store-wide sale, possible reddit coins in it for you. Don't need to be the top 1% of DPS, but want to be effective and have fun.

You can offer community-recognized standard solutions, or fun out-of-the-box answers

    Why I'm asking

I want to know the best way to spend my limited (but decent) resources. I purchased the Gamma Vanguard pack, since I like the Jem'Hadar ships and have started a Vanguard toon there (unfortuantly JUST before the coming 80% sale). I also wanted the Cardassian Intel Escort there for my near fighter-esque high-speed, high-maneuverability, cannons-based Strafing build.

I am a returning player who started a new account on Xbox (since a bunch of buddies are playing there). I'm willing to put in plenty of game time, am definitely going to get a lifetime sub, and have been doing a lot of research and thought this would be a fun way to help out all the incoming players given Picard and the 10th Anniversary. My group has started a fleet, I'm willing to craft, and even engage in Exchange commerce.

For added color: I'm an ex-USAF C-17 pilot and life long Star Trek fan who loves the space combat. Though I'd like to be effective in Ground Combat as well. I like all the series (except Discovery of Thrones), watched every episode possible in broadcast order (am about to do it again), I always play a good guy no matter what faction I play, and I like to look cool doing it.

    Rewards!

    Deadline 26 Jan 11:59EST

At least 4.3k Reddit coins will be awarded after the deadline to the most useful answers to pay you for your time. To be given out (at minimum):

    • 1 x Platinum (free month of ad-free premium, and gets you 700 coins)
    • 5 x Gold (free week of ad-free premium, and gets you 100 coins)
    • ? x Silver (you get a shiny and some grateful respect)
    • If I get enough good answers I will be generous and give more. If you say the same thing as someone else, I'll give it to the most useful, well thought out version of it by the deadline; tie goes to earliest post.
    • Upvotes will influence my decision. If I only get one solid answer I will give all awards to that individual.
    • Bonus points for tying your suggestion(s) to Star Trek episode lore. Extra bonus if I have to look it up
    • This is entirely subjective to me, so no bickering or arguing with my decision (I'm just gonna ignore it anyways).
    • Past the deadline won't count for rewards!
    • You will lose any chance of winning if you're evil/mean-spirited/rude/discourteous to me or anyone else. (Good-hearted trolls will also lose any chance of winning, but you may get smile or laugh)

NOTE: These will come from this account as well as a retired account (eolithical) with a bunch of coins and this one.

    Scenario

    1. You have a LOT of Zen, but not so much that you can just buy everything.
    2. You are a brand new player, but somehow have all the knowledge you currently possess
    3. You are restricted to the game as it is NOW, so previously available content that is no longer available cannot be used. Using the current meta (such as pick your favorite color of damage)
    4. You want at least four good builds: tactical, science, engineering, and a bonus fun immersion-inducing Star Trek-feeling build. You play 50/50 solo/group.
    5. You also want to experience the full gamut of STO content and gameplay styles over time.
    6. You want a great build in the Federation (any timeline) and Dominion, with good opportunities for the others. You're not too concerned about a canon-observing build, anything goes.
    7. You don't really care about cosmetics so much as effectiveness and fun.

The Exercise in the form of Questions to answer:

(answers can be simple bullets or explained posts, I'm willing to do my homework):

    1. What would be the order of purchases on which you would spend your Zen? Efficient usage of Zen, not overlapping purchases, good combination of ships and the equipment that comes with them
    2. What ships are the must-haves for each of the 4 builds above? (tac, sci, eng, ST fun!)
    3. What's a good ground setup to have?
    4. Any fun specialty items to have? For instance, I've heard of a tommy gun apparently available in the Picard pack, and the Spock Kelvin timeline jellyfish ship (the speedy one where he deploys the red matter in an attempt to save Romulus).

Feel free to ask clarification questions.

Thanks for your time and interest! Please pardon any edits as I make this easier to view/read. I'll mark any material changes with an EDIT Tag below this line.

Am I the only one lagging?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2020 10:47 AM PST

Ever since the latest patch on 1/21/20, I have been experiencing the worst lag I've ever seen. It takes minutes to get through a loading screen, I "spawn in" and can't do anything for about a minute until the game finally kicks in and my ship warps into the zone. Input lag makes the game almost unplayable, rubberbanding is constant and worse than ever. Yesterday, I got disconnected randomly, the day before the game hard crashed twice for the first time in years.

Am I the only one experiencing this? I have absolutely no idea what could be causing this. My computer is perfectly fine and updated, my internet speed is high and the connection stable, and it isn't happening on any other game or program I have.

"Broken TFO" Leave Option Badly Needed

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 12:13 PM PST

Sigh, another Paria III run that ends in VanDerp standing at the rocks, admiring his rifle, and not setting the charges like he's supposed to. We need a "TFO is broke" type vote leave, and if the majority of the team votes, it allows them to leave without penalty.

Item Deleted Itself After An Upgrade

    Posted: 24 Jan 2020 08:18 AM PST

While waiting for the Hive briefing, I killed some time by slapping a Phoenix upgrade on a Science console. And immediately after closing the window, it was gone. The console had vanished. Nowhere in my inventory, not on my ship. The empty slot claims it's on another ship but it doesn't appear hovering over it. And trying to use the loadout results in an error message about not every item being loaded.

The run itself also glitched, with one of our party members not loading in and thus the Borg nodes never became active.

Before I submit a ticket, is it even worth the time, or are they going to tell me sorry, but no dice on a restoration?

This beauty just showed up in Mudd's Market. I was not around when this was given away. Despite its price (3,400 zen) is this a good ship? They said you can equip something from the recent winter ship on it. That one turns like a ocean oil tanker. Is this one more nimble? Overall what are your opinions on it?

J'mpok has a new hair style going on.

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 06:34 PM PST

Just noticed today, and not seen anyone post that the devs seem to have snuck an updated klingon hair style onto the live server. Only place i see it is on J'mpok and it's not available yet for players but I'm hoping this is a sign that players will be getting some new klingon hairs soon!
