PSA: New items and discounts in the Mudd's Market

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 08:14 AM PST

There are a few new items in the Mudd's Market. The Geordi Holo Boff, Crystal Prism and S'torr Warship. Also, all the items are -80% off (i.e. their price is what their base price should be to begin with).

That said, there's probably a big bundle coming with the 10th Anniversary so you might want to save your Zen for that.

I'm just bringing the news for those that might be interested, so no need to downvote only because you hate the Mudd's Market idea...

If you'd like to experience how STO ground combat felt like at launch...

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 08:31 AM PST

...then buy yourself the Hunter Energy Crossbow from the Lobi Store. The weapon perfectly demonstrates how all the ground combat 1.0 looked like when STO launched 10 years ago. A single bolt fired every three seconds or so... Such a great throwback to the good ol' times!

But seriously, don't do this... Don't buy this thing. It's terrible, not fun to use. It has to be one of the worst Lobi items in the store. Get yourself literally any other weapon if you want one.

Has anyone else suffered endless disconnects?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 04:42 AM PST

The last day, I have been have suffered regular disconnections from the game, literally every 5-10 minutes and with various hang-ups when connected. Before that, various zones have been rubber banding to the point on Nukara, it was literally unplayable.

My Internet connection is fine, fastest fibre you can buy in the UK and have had no issues with other games or services. Just wanted to get an idea of other experiences.

Quick Q for PC Vets - Inviting Players to Starship Bridge

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 06:12 AM PST

Does anyone know how many players can be invited onto your bridge at the same time? So its Zone Capacity?

Background: The ability to invite players to your bridge is coming to us console plebs with the next update. My fleet regularly runs events for players ranging from PVE, PVP challenges to good old hide and seek. We normally use Risa due to it allowing >20 players in an instance.

Im wondering if we will be able to take advantage of the change and use some of our own interiors for hide and seek. Would be bridges like Defiant, Voyager, TOS and Galaxy as they all come with additional sections to explore and or try hide in.

[PC] quick question, what beams are best?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 07:57 AM PST

as the title says, should I choose to craft Antiproton, Polaron or Tetryon? Looks wise I love Antiproton, but I can't figure out which is the best.

Just hit me it's really been 10 years. Decided to upload some (very) old STO screenshots.

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 11:24 AM PST

Not sure why, but only now it got to me that I've wasted 10 whole years on this game... Almost a third of my life. Made me both sad and nostalgic at the same time. I've decided to dig up some of my old STO files and upload some old screenshots, reaching as far as open beta.

I thought I'd share some of them. There's no single theme here. Mostly old random stuff, either funny, pretty, buggy, or just something to show newer players how the game looked like back then. That said, I didn't own a good machine so the graphics are average, even bad at first. Still, maybe other 'veterans' would like to share their memories as well. Please do.

Alliance Battlecruiser should be given access to ALL faction material types.

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 11:26 AM PST

As it says in title, it makes sense lore-wise if nothing else to allow this ship to be the one exception to have access to at least the stock KDF/ROM/FED material types. Jem Hadar would be nice, too.

    Thoughts?

Ten Forward Weekly - The Khitomer Alliance Battlecruiser

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 05:26 PM PST

    Link: Youtube [1:03:04], Twitch [1:03:00], Facebook [1:03:10]

    Theme: The Khitomer Alliance Battlecruiser

Guests: group 1: lead ship and UI artist Thomas Marrone and concept artist Hector Ortiz; group 2: systems designer Jette Leavens

    • There's 3 ways to get progress on new ship: new TFO, omega particle collection and some as-of-yet unannounced 3rd way.
    • Ship meant to represent working together that is what Star Trek is about.
    • No final plans about how to implement Alliance service.
    • They want to address in the future that while there's alliance now, there was a pretty hot war just before.
    • Alliance battlecruiser visual design:
      • For they initially thought about rotating nacelles, buy decided against it for various reasons.
      • While they want more influences for future ships, they decided to go with the most basic things for the first one and combine more iconic klingon and federation looks.
      • Klingon ships are more about sharp edges and small details, while federation ships are more smooth and clean.
      • This ship have name registry written for both english and klingon. That technically required 3 versions of same font for each location. Now that tech is here, they can apply them to other klingon ships if they decide to.
      • Only one "Khitomer alliance" material for now, more in the future.
      • It comes with neutral bridge, unchangeable for now. Its own bridge may come in future.
      • Full discountless buyout price is 6k zen. As with elachi event, it would be reduced by progress.
      • Comes with new alliance registry that could be changed to character faction's one.
    • More info on the U.S.S. Ross in about two weeks.
    • Jette about current build: "What I build is approximately a standard "spacebar mash"-esque beam fire at will battlecruiser."
    • Shield was the theme of the ship and how anti-borg it turned out was a coincidence.
    • Ship used antiproton beams and ability damage by default because four damage types were removed by the process of elimination as they are connected to factions, tetryon is mostly associated with enemy factions and antiproton was chosen because "future" ships used antiproton beams and there's also chroniton beams.
    • Command seating is there for some "flagship"-ish feel.
    • Jette tried to represent duality of the ship in its trait and console stats.
    • Jette considers romulan flamethrower to be most fun ground weapon.

    'Researcher Rescue' Disaster...

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 03:43 AM PST

    Folks,

I'm having a problem. I'm playing the 'Researcher Rescue' mission where you have to, shock horror, rescue a bunch of Cardassian archaelogists from some rather annoyed Gorn. Now, I've gotten as far as the space battle towards the end of the mission, where you have to take on a Gorn battleship, and I keep getting pulped.

    Within seconds.

The Gorn ship uses some sort of beam that drains my shields, pummels the crap out of me and then - poof! - my lovely TOS Constitution-class Starship 'Fontana' is space dust.

Are there any tactics or ship improvements you could recommend? Or how did you tackle this mission previously?

I've only been playing a little over a month, and I'll put my hands up and say that I'm still getting to grips with some of the finer parts of the game play.

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 09:21 AM PST

Where it's been put off for 3 days I figured the breach would just be on today but nothing yet also Mudds Market isn't there either. It seems like consoles are becoming an afterthought given all this nonsense.
