    Regarding the recent "hacker" problem

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 10:03 AM PST

Over the past couple days, I've seen a marginal uptick in players mentioning hackers/cheaters prowling STO, yet I haven't seen any actual demonstrable evidence that anyone has found a way to falsify data to send to cryptic's servers. I haven't seen anyone using excessively OP weapons (no more than the usual, anyway) and people aren't exactly getting sploded for no reason in sector space. The closest thing we have to an "exploit" is being able to get out of bounds in certain places, and that's not exactly abusable since PVP is virtually nonexistent. I guess my question is: does anyone have any actual video evidence of these hacks/cheats being used? I'd really like to see what people are witnessing to prompt the "HAXOR!!!" posts I've seen recently.

Faction Skins for Already Existing Ships?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 09:51 AM PST

    Just curious about something:

Now that we've got cross-faction flying and anyone can fly anything, I was curious is there's any interest in the community for unlockable skins for ships that make an already existing ship look like it's been retrofitted by a different faction.

For example, an unlockable skin for the B'rel, but what a B'rel would look like if designed by the Jem'Hadar. Or a Romulan take on the Galaxy-class. Or a Federation take on a D'Deredex. Etc., etc. Not new ships, just new looks for already existing ships.

The Khitomer Alliance ships are cool, but they have their own distinct look. Now that my toons can fly any faction's ship, I think it'd be interesting to see some of the already existing spaceframes filtered through another faction's design language.

If anyone has thoughts, I'd be interested in hearing them.

Event Campaign III Prize: Maybe there is no best option

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 07:15 AM PST

So, I've been trying to plan out what promo ship I want from Event Campaign III and I believe I'm approaching the conclusion that I don't want any of them... Theoretically, getting a promo ship is the best value for campaign 3, but the ones with interesting seating aren't visually appealing to me, and I'm having a hard time determining if the ones that ARE visually appealing are likely to leave dry dock very often. (My Ateleth has been out of dry dock exactly twice... That was basically a very expensive trait purchase)

So that brings me to lockbox ships. Here things get a little more interesting for me. First of all, there's the obvious Atlas. It's a cool looking ship with a meta console...but I'm not sure it 'fits' my main toon, and I really don't want to leave it (and that lovely console...) stranded on a TOS alt. The seating is also not terribly inspiring... Expanding past the Atlas though, there are SO MANY cool lockbox ships. S31 Science Destroyer? Kelvin T'Laru (which sadly is missing the EBC it should have as a full spec rommie ship...)? Styx with just the coolest frigate pets (Holy crap, they're magees!) I've ever seen? Choosing a lockbox ship certainly opens the door to interesting possibilities...

But what If I just don't want a ship at all? 1,500 lobi can buy a lot of gear from the lobi store. Especially if I can try and wait out another 50% sale...Hell, it could buy 3 ships @ 50%.

The only option that isn't appealing to me is the 2 ship coupons. I have a ton of c-store ships, and If I want another I'll just shell out the cash for it. For a Free to Play player though, I can see this being appealing. There's some great ships on the c-store, even a few Fleet-Grade ones like the flagships (Odyssey, Bortasqu' and Scimitar) and MW ships. Not to mention the Arbiter (and other vessels with EWC).

On paper, a promo ship is the clear winner since these go for over 1.5B these days but since the prize is non-tradeable, the exchange price only matters if you would otherwise want to buy the ship. Lockbox options are way more varied and lobi opens up possibilities beyond ships.

Anyone else considering an unusual selection for their campaign prize?

J'Ula weapons and kit modules in Knowledge is Power?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 05:17 AM PST

I know some folks didn't like this mission but I was really enjoying her weapons and kit modules. Can someone tell me what they are and if they are attainable in game. I could see that she had some kind of dual disruptors and something like a disruptor overcharge blast?

Questions from a person planning to start a game for the first time.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 10:17 AM PST

Welcome. I'm getting ready to play my first STO game (I am a SWTOR veteran who is fed up with the attitude of the developers). My questions are as follows:

    1. Does race matter, if so which one is most recommended. (I mean stats, racial traits).

    2. Is it worth investing in a lifetime subscription (when there will be a promotion for it) instead of monthly renewals?

    3. How is the plot, is it interesting, full of twists and turns?

    4. Which faction is friendly for a newcomer to the game? (I mean easy to navigate in quests)

    5. What is the community like? Will I find many players in the game who could answer my questions or help me with some quests?

    6. What is the best thing to buy in Zen Store?

Thank you for your time and I look forward to your helpful answers.

Gamma Recruit - 90 Specialization Points - Not Completing

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 09:46 AM PST

I must be doing something wrong and your help. The Dominion Transponder says I need to spend 90 specialization points in any specialization. I know that the recruit itself gives you 15 specialization points to begin with...so that means you don't get the first point until you add your 16th point. Here is a breakdown of my points.

    Commando 15

    Constable 15

    Strategist 15

    Command Officer 30

    Intelligence Officer 30

    Miracle Worker 30

    Pilot 0

    Temporal Operative 0

    Total: (15+15+15+30+30+30)-15 = (45+90)-15 = (135)-15 = 125 points

Having spent 125 specialization points, even with the minus 15 points for those free ones given...what am I doing wrong here? I have /bug reported it, but no response from Cryptic.

    Klingon Recruit and Admirality Ships?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 08:31 AM PST

Just reached 65 with my Klingon recruit yesterday and realised that I was not getting my Fed ships added as Admirality cards. Is this a bug or am I supposed to claim my sizable Fed roster manually and one by one?

If yes that probably spells a death sentence for more playtime on this toon. And we've already been there before when the whole system launched, but they implemented a script to grant Admirality cards on other/fresh toons. So why is Cryptic always regressing and repeating the same mistakes? Or am I missing a blatantly ovbious button somewhere?
