    Softlock in "Swarm" TFO (PC)

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 06:57 AM PST

While playing "Swarm" to complete the Klingon recruit task, this happened:

In Phase 1, after activating all Jem'Hadar ships, it said "Destroy all remaining Hur'q Ships"; which we did. However, after no ships were left on the map and no new ships were spawning either, the task "Destroy all remaining Hur'q Ships" was still there in white. We kept circling the map in case a ship had bugged itself into terrain somewhere, but the map was empty, and Phase 2 didn´t start- the mission was softlocked. We waited for several minutes, before I had enough and simply left the mission and got the 30 min leaving punishment.

How good is the game as a continuation of the series vs being an mmo that just happens to be Trek-themed?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 05:27 AM PST

I like the idea of probably more content than the entirety of the episodes have provided. Voice acting tends to be second-rate. I really haven't played much of the game but having a Trek game that doesn't suck (At least the consensus is most Trek games are pretty poor) is appealing to me to really get into it.

New Romulan lore info behind Picard, from the showrunner - I hope some of this gets taken on to flesh out Romulan culture in STO; it's a bit 2D compared to the Klingons not embracing lore even from TNG

Battle Cloak: Trying To Figure Out The Changes

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 08:22 AM PST

On consoles, with the anniversary update, cloak was changed in a way that has rendered it almost completely non-functional. The cloak bug kicks in at a rate higher than 50%, requiring numerous logouts during TFOs to regain control of the ship's weapons. I've been doing some testing to try and figure out what the details are, and I'm hoping for some help. Here's what I've found so far:

    • Enhanced Battle Cloak now has a 5-second delay to activation and deactivation. This means that cloak cannot be cancelled for at least 5 seconds after an attempt to do so. If any other action (firing weapons, using an ability, auto-use abilities firing) occurs during this 5-second window, there is a greater than 50% chance that the cloak becomes permanent until the player logs out.

    • During the 5-second delay, weapons and defenses are completely disabled, and the 5 second window of offensive bonuses get "eaten." They are technically still applied, but they have no effect since weapons are disabled. The exception is torpedoes, which can be fired and benefit from the bonuses.

    • This change only appears to impact ships that natively have "Enhanced Battle Cloak." This includes the T6 Kor and the new T6 Raider from the recruitment event. Ships that have standard cloak or that upgrade to enhanced battle cloak through the use of consoles (such as the Defiant variants) do not suffer from the 5-second delay and are able to benefit fully from the ability and its intended bonuses.

I'm hoping the issue is a bug, but fear it was an intentional nerf that was improperly applied to some versions of cloak. One question I have for players in the PC community is whether the 5-second delay is currently part of Enhanced Battle Cloak on that system. Generally, changes on PC are a harbinger of changes on console, so that would go a long way to figuring out if it was intentional.

For now, ships using standard cloak or that have upgraded to enhanced through set bonuses are hit with the bug at the old frequency (ie much less often) and can use their bonuses to their full effect, making them vastly superiour options to ships with native Enhanced Battle Cloak. Players working their way through Klingon Recruitment characters may want to try switching to a Defiant and using the cloak set with their recruits to get the "Hunter" perk kills to count. Edit: I just tried this, and it doesn't work unless you can claim the defiant variants, which I couldn't because I wasn't level 50 yet. The cloaking console is on the T5 Defiant and is upgraded with the weapon/console from the T4 and T6 variants (this was recently changed, probably because of the "any ship with any captain" update.)

    Missing Dilithium Boxes

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 06:38 AM PST

Its been over a week now since the recruitment event started. The announcement mentions dilithium boxes dropping perioducally, however I have seen none.

I understand there was some issue on PC and they turned them off, but there has been no explanation as to why they are missing on console.

It seems they forgot to tell us they were disabled, and also forgot to remove them from the blogs, can anyone at Cryptic please clarify the situation.

It is not right that we have gone a week without some kind of explanation.

    Wait a minute... (Kobali)

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 09:33 PM PST

I'm just getting to the dreaded Kobali Front arc on my KDF recruit. General Q'Nel was telling me about how the horrors of war and death were taking a toll on the soldiers. But...

Shouldn't the Kobalis be able to raise their own dead? Whatever reanimation voodoo they use to bring back duplicate previously-spaced Harry won't work on a dead Kobali? Consistency!

New to the game anywhere how's the best way to get started.

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 08:09 AM PST

    Hello everyone!

I recently got into Star Trek after randomly deciding to watch the new JJ Abrams movies about 2 weeks ago and now I am hooked to the original series. I was recommended a YouTube video on Star Trek Online and the game seemed very interesting to me. I have no experience though with MMOs but I am interested in learning about this game are there any resources videos or groups of people that would be able to help me get into the game. For my character, I chose a person from the TOS Starfleet category is that makes a difference, and am on the 4th episode now. I'm open to any suggestions thanks!

Back after a couple years, what should I buy with my built up Zen?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 06:43 AM PST

I've been with this game since day one and bought the lifetime membership. That being said, as it's gotten more complicated my gaps with it have become longer and longer. Last time I logged in was August 2019 and I've accumulated about 9,700 in Zen in that time. What's worth buying with it that came out from that time to now? I mainly play Fed.

3 piece Lorca set and Voth power subcore.

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 11:47 AM PST

So, I came across this amusing bug in "The Breach" (event version, not sure about regular.]

I run the Lorca 3 piece, which shoots a dark matter torpedo automatically at targets under 50% hull.

In the part of the breach where we kill the voth power subcore, it turns out that I will shoot the torpedo at the core when it's hidden! The pylons don't actually have to be open for the auto-torpedo to work!

Naturally, I still need to be within 10km for it to work through.

Tips? Tricks? Advice? I need some help...

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 05:42 AM PST

So I just started playing. Started with the federation. Switched to KDF. Made it to lvl 20 with the feds before switching. So I do get SOME of the game mechanics and functions.

But I know I was doing something wrong bc I was constantly getting my ... kicked in space battles.

Any advice. Tips. Tricks. Etc. That y'all can give a new(ish) player would be nice.

I am enjoying this game very much. Considering spending money to buy a T6 ship. And other things for my personal enjoyment. But mostly the ship bc I keep getting whipped in space battles. Not fun.

I am most likely doing something wrong tho. I know this. I shouldn't need to buy a T6 ship just to beat the early parts of game.

Is there a trick to space battles? I will admit I do like to go in "guns blazing" but I also keep my distance best I can and play the angles. I get combat. Was a soldier for a LONG time. So I understand the tactics of a engagement and how to fight. (Ground battles go very well for me, no issues there)

Is there a trick or some way to obtaining better console items, ship weapons, devices, etc?

PVE seems to be a good way of getting items. But most are way above my rank of usage or are not useful due to being weaker than what I have currently. Go figure that logic. Where's the rank scaled times that help?

Or is it what i figure it is. And like all MMOs you just gotta grind it out until you get what your after and take your lumps along the way lol?

    Thanks for replies...
