    I’m After some advice please

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 08:22 AM PST

I currently have the Helion console which is 15% phaser damage and 15% crit severity. But I've been thinking of taking a sensor linked dual cannon off, and going for the quantum 2 piece with the cannon and console which is 26.3% phaser damage plus the 15 accuracy from the set bonus which would you say was the better option

    Thanks in advance

    Alts & Fleets

Just curious how others handle this situation. Do your alternate characters join a fleet? Join the same fleet as the main toon or just every alt try a different fleet?

I have a couple of characters in different fleets. Not sure if this counter productive, but it's confusing with the wildly different promotion requirements for each.

[Bug] Gok'Tad console: [Console - Universal - Fiery Charge]

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 07:28 PM PST

The console from the new carrier allows you to by pass the starting/waiting zone of TFOs such as Infected: The Conduit and others.

    Replication:

    1. Target borg cube
    2. use [Console - Universal - Fiery Charge]

It will pull you out of the start straight to the borg cube and start the match. The other team members will be unable to move till the timer runs down.

Not receiving dilithium for completed missions

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 08:14 AM PST

Hi, I've been completing missions to reach level 65, but my dilithium hasn't been updated for 2 months. I've read that apparently they're contained in reward packs. Which tab/panel are the reward packs stored as I can't find them in my inventory. Not sure if it's because I'm missing something like this or it's a genuine bug.

Why do the different ranks of holiday BOFF manuals cost the same?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 07:40 AM PST

A little late to ask, but there it is. Why can't I get an lieutenant-level manual for just seven of the things that never drop, instead of 15 like the Commander-level manual costs?

We Need to Talk About the Infinity Lock Box

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 11:54 AM PST

I'm sure all of us have noticed just how expensive Lock Box ships have gotten in the last 1-2 years. On PC at least, these ships used to sell for an average of 300-400 million EC; the going rate for them now is anywhere from 700-900 million EC. This is more than a 100% increase in value, which has really been detrimental, if not crippling, to most of STO's playerbase as Lock Box ships become more and more unattainable. There are definitely a number of factors that could be attributed to this sharp increase in price (e.g. EC inflation/lack of EC sinks, loss of whales who farmed Lock Boxes to sell, community burnout from Lock Boxes, etc.), but for this post I'd like to focus specifically on the Infinity Lock Box itself.

I feel the biggest and most glaring problem with the Infinity Lock Box is the sheer number of possible ships one can choose from should they be lucky enough to receive an Infinity Prize Pack - T6 Ship. Back when the Infinity Lock Box first released in June 2016, there were only 6 possible ships that could be chosen from this choice pack. I remember how awesome it was when the Infinity Lock Box first released because the prices of those Lock Box ships tanked on the Exchange for weeks following the massive increase in supply! Nowadays, at the tail end of 2020, that number has increased to a whopping 35 (for Federation and Fed-aligned characters), soon to be 36 once the Ba'ul Sentry Vessel gets added to the prize pool. What's the problem with more choice and variety, you may ask? Well, let's just say that the Infinity Lock Box is no longer as consumer-friendly as it used to be.

As more and more ships have been added to the Infinity Lock Box over the years, players are now faced with significant choice bloat when they get those coveted T6 ship packs to drop for them. This means that, in order to ensure they get the most "bang for their buck," many players will end up choosing only a small portion of those ships a majority of the time. Choosing a Lock Box ship has now become a popularity contest, one that the ships with the best consoles/traits/visual appearances almost always win. This creates a DRASTIC imbalance on the supply side of things, with some of these ships being cheaper and readily available while others are exceedingly rare and expensive. Just hop on the Exchange and compare how many Mirror Warships or TOS Dreadnoughts) are for sale compared to Na'kuhl Raiders or Vaadwaur Escorts. Yeah, the difference is staggering!

Of course, the only reason why this is even an issue is because the Infinity T6 Choice Packs themselves are bound to character. This forces players to choose which ship they want before they can either sell it or keep it for themselves and perpetuates the aforementioned supply imbalance problem. Given this information, the easiest solution to both increasing the supply of less desirable/rarer Lock Box ships and reducing their prices on the Exchange would be to make these Choice Packs unbound. This would allow players to sell the Choice Packs on the Exchange and shift the "choice" part of the transaction onto the buyer, rather than the seller. It would also standardize the price of Lock Box ships across the board while lowering them at the same time, as Lock Box ships will no longer be competing with each other.

A change like this would only benefit the playerbase, though the cynic in me worries that Cryptic/PWE fears it may cut into their bottom line too much. While we're at it, why not implement this change for Infinity Promotional Choice Packs too, as the amount of options there is also getting a bit ridiculous as well. Anyways, I'd like to get community feedback on this idea, as my experience with the Infinity Lock Box may be drastically different from what others have. Thanks for following along with my mini-rant/thesis of sorts!

EDIT: Wow, I was not expecting this to be such a controversial suggestion...

TIL The Weaponized Mycelial Emitter on Fed Characters has an interesting debuff

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 06:32 PM PST

Apparently if you use the set too many times you get a warning from a J'mpok loyalist. The next time, a loyalist ship shows up.

Not my fault they decided to pop into the middle of a Borg Cooperative fleet and didn't last 10 seconds.
