I wanted to buy a full set (of 5) for my captain and away team, but bought 1 just to see how I liked it. Unfortunately it is stupidly large, and looks dumb. Please scale this down a bit to look more like it does in the show.

Lower Decks, STO, and Hopes [SPOILERS FOR ST:LD]

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 01:25 AM PDT

I just wrapped up finishing watching the finale of Lower Decks' first season. It's definitely been a very different Star Trek show, and I liked a lot of it. There's still some things I have mixed feelings about, but overall it's been probably the most enjoyable addition to modern Star Trek for me since the movie Beyond.

All that being said, this show is considered canon, and while it definitely referenced plenty of shows prior, it also introduced its own elements and gave us a view of Starfleet in the 2380's. So! I thought I'd put together a list of things from the show that I sincerely hope find their way into the game somehow. I know that there are a lot of extenuating circumstances that might prevent even half of this list from being brought in, but ideally I hope to see...

    Starfleet Ships

The California Class - I gotta say, it's really really grown on me. Considering it's the hero ship it's almost certainly going to be added to the game. How should it be implemented? I'm not sure honestly, maybe a frigate of some kind? I just hope to heaven on high it's a C-store ship, because it fits the criteria. Bonus: cel-shaded/cartoon vanity shield.

The Parliament Class - The most quintessential Starfleet ship that the show introduced. She's a capable looking heavy cruiser that can take and dish a wallop. Personally I hope for some kind of shuttle bay loaded with those support platforms from its debut episode.

"Osler Class" - Star Trek: 40K. Spooky D-14 medical transport ship. Not much more to say.

Luna Class FINALE SPOILERS - IT'S ALPHA CANON GUYS! I was so so very happy to see the Titan realized in a Star Trek show, and as the proper Luna class design we've all come to love. Gives me hope that designs of similar status like the Vesta might come to see the light of day. I am READY for a revamp of this incredible ship.

    Non Starfleet Ships

Bird of Prey Variant - Hey, we got a slightly new variant of the Bird of Prey! Granted the differences are minor visually, but it could reasonably be paired with the Cerritos in a duo pack. Alternatively...

Vindicta's Warship - Technically it's not explicitly a real Klingon ship, but it obviously meant to be one. It looks like someone put the child of the B'rel and the D7 on steroids and pressed that into service. The advantage here is that it's an original design, and it'd also make for a nice thing to toss in a duo ship to a California class for the KDF.

Ancient Generation Ship - Well, now we're dipping into less prominent territory. This large bug like ship could make for an interesting promo-like ship if built around the orange terraforming gel from its episode as a mechanic. Could make like the Orville and Arbor Day enemy NPCs.

Gelrakian Crystal Ships - These space spear welders flew in interesting looking crystal ships. Their main gimmicks included boarding and graffiti. The ships do look neat!

Drookmani Ship - Not as cool looking as the other designs, but the J.G. Hertzler cameo alien ship hurled ship debris as a weapon.

Ground Weapons Not too much to say with this category save for...

"Phaser Bazooka" - Associated with possibly the best one liner in this show so far. It's a modern day Boolean cannon.

TNG Era Romulan Disruptor Rifle -
Surprised it's not in the game already, I feel like these'd make the perfect sort of "hand-me-down" tech for the Romulan Republic to make use of. Thanks to the MACO rifle, VOY rifle, and TNG Type 3 a precedent for two-handed grip rifles is there.

    Space Barbie Armor and Uniforms

2380's Uniform - This is more for posterity since they've already said they'll be adding them in. These are nice, very TNG-esque uniforms, and ideally their introduction will hopefully include at least the admiral's variant and the CMO's coat. You can actually get pretty close to these uniforms already with the Academy uniforms and soft boots right now.

Crisis Point Costumes - These outfits worn during the holo-movie by "Vindicta" and her evil gang could make for some nice additions to the litany of the KDF uniform options.

Chu Chu T-shirt - Nothing super special, but for next summer it'd make a nice additonal band t-shirt.

Boimler's Date Outfit - No comment.

    Gear and Stuff

Zombie Kit Module - It'd probably be a nightmare to code but something to briefly infect your enemies or even yourselves and convert them into feral zombies would be a fun if impractical ground power.

"Sentient Isolinear Chip Core" kit module/ship console - Could be an interesting ground summon or something to lob at an enemy ship, preferably without the disturbing dialogue.

Terraforming Gel kit module - Shoot a glob of orange gel out that has some neat, random environmental effect perhaps?

"Cosmetic" Transporter Phase kit module - Gives your toon a temporary transparent blue glow and has some stun effect of sorts.

2380's EV Suit - Looks a bit like the 2411 suit surprisingly.

    Pets, social and/or combat

Badgey - "Hi! Can I teach you a lesson?" - Would make an awesome social/combat pet, uncomfortable happy-go lucky tutor badge by day, psychopathic terrifying hologram by night.

"The Dog" - I feel like this could make for a fun social pet, that does random funny little transformations here and there while it idles around.

"Exocomp" - Loved seeing an Exocomp decked out in a Starfleet paint job. Would be fun to have a similar looking one, or even perhaps a paint job based off of the current Odyssey uniform.

Hydroscoot - These could make for some interesting variety during the next summer event!

    Other

Consumables - Just a few of the small features like poutine, cup of noodles, margaritas, etc. would be some nice filler.

DOFF missions - Not asking for a re-do of the DOFF system, but adding in some filler DOFF missions based off of some of the things and tasks seen in Lower Decks could do for some solid content.

BOFFS/Playable Races - Fed Orions perhaps? Though this could be held back by the list of CBS "do's and do not's" mentioned. An Edosian BOFF would make for a nice addition since they expressed interest in non-humanoid BOFFs.

Tulgana IV Adventure Zone - Alright, this is the least likely thing on the list. At best it could be an episode location, but Tulgana IV with its hodgepodge mix of various cultures would be fun to visit.

And that's my list, again, not expecting anything here, but I really feel like a lot of these would make for some awesome content from the show, AFTER hopefully some STO Original content of course. Right now I'm thinking more like lockbox/c-store/minor additions/rewards at the moment rather than full-blown content and missions centered around this show.

    STO'S W.M.D.'s.

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 07:35 AM PDT

I was sat last night, sorting through my various ship set-ups, and I noticed how many of the weapons available were basically illegal or, at least, very dubious. It is interesting to see how we can use isolytic weapons, subspace tears, trilithium weaponry, kemocite weapons, thalaron, agony-inducing arms, all manner of ravaging radiation types, protomatter bombs, Metreon weapons, Delphic weapons ....not to mentioned the various Borg tech we use, even assimilating ships and solidiers...

We can take it as rote that we're pretty genocidal maniacs at the best of times, but it makes you wonder a bit, when you consider how we're commiting said genocide. I find it very interesting.

Epic starter pack. What to get?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 08:23 AM PDT

I grabbed the Epic Starter pack, just for 15 ish USD, so, now, I am sitting on an epic phonix price ticket and a free T6 ship.

Currently, I am a very-very casual player and an old timer, who takes brakes time-to-time. My ship is an Arbiter (soon a fleet variant, and that will be eXperimental), and it is a fully phaser beamship. I have a prolonged torpedo in my bank, aswell a phassr torpedo that deals phaser damage, not kinetic.

I also have the Paladin class for the trait and the Eclipse, as it was the first line of T6 ship and I had to get that one.

I know, the phonix token will be spent on the Bajorian ship, to get the console...

But... what should I buy with the free T6 token? I can not decide. I find the Gagarin a bit... flat and ugly, but it can be a good beamship if I want to abandon my Arbiter (and I could install a torpedo for the trait aswell if I have to). Looking like a TNG-ish starship is important to me (and the Arbiter is almost too small for me... but I adapted), but I would prefer a 5/3 weapon slotted over a 4/4, but if I can find one that can be a very good beamship, so be it.

My character is a Starfleet Tactican captain, so I would prefer a "human" vessel.

Can you give me an advise, please?

Extra: in the very old PC game, ST Armada, my favorite class was the Akira, but as I see, they made it to a carrier here :)

Ten Forward Weekly 08.10.2020: House Shattered

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 09:04 PM PDT

    Link: Twitch, Facebook

    Theme: House Shattered Q&A

Guest: QA Lead Jeremy Hymell joined half-way

Initially he planned to play the new mission, but was overwhelmed by the amount of questions and decided to dedicate stream to answering them, while also seeing if there's any dev willing to join.

Mike, you posted the warning at the wrong twitter. And stop with subliminal Star Wars propaganda (shirt and pillows).

JK: BTW, in case you missed, here's the one guilty in Mike's typos.

    • Various bugs:
      • Recent unexpected downtime was caused by database overload that knocked out the server.
        • Initially engineering team thought that is was a different issue, until they turned the servers back on and discovered that it wasn't correct one and hat to turn off servers again.
      • They are working on "missing characters and items" issue.
      • Issue with video card and DirectX is also known and is worked on.
      • So is respec issue.
      • Fixes for TFO's issues are being worked on, hotfix for most important bugs should be coming this week.
      • Channel amount is also one.
    • With how things went, there were no time for dedicated Halloween event this year.
    • ENT weapons in general and MACO rifle in particular are one of longest "we want" Mike knows about, although he don't know exact reason for why they chose to implement those now.
    • Mike also considers lack of Mirror Warship trait and console for KDF to be an issue and would try to rectify that.
    • No, Legendary ships would not retroactively receive new consoles, traits and skins.
    • Reason for current amount of max inventory space and ship slots is that currently servers may have problem handling bigger amount, although team is looking to improve it.
    • Mike personally is interested to know whether Grand Nagus ship is poisoned forever, or people might be interested in it, should Cryptic release it any other way.
      • When Mike joined Cryptic, he was advised by one who was CM at the time (LaughingTrendy) not to bring that ship up if possible, but by now he is curious enough.
      • He was told that this was one of the angriest days community had.
    • Mike isn't aware about any upcoming additions to phoenix store.
    • Free Phoenix event coming soon... when they fix it.
    • There is some "more info" that is "to come" about DIS klingons.
    • There was supposed to be second episode, but working from hove lowered work efficiency enough that they rather make single, but good one. That second one would likely end up as anniversary one.
      • Current plan is that there would also be third episode.
    • Jeremy joined at that point and Q&A moved to QA direction.
    • Currently QA team consists of 7 people, 2 of which joined less then two month ago.
      • Personally, Jeremy is in team for year and ten month. Overall ten and a half years of QA experience.
    • Jeremy said that the biggest challenge is to patrol 10 year old and developing MMO game with such a small team.
    • They have "Should jar" in QA. They buy pizza with money from from it.
    • It's different to play 10 years of content to find that some recent change unexpectedly affected something from 6 years ago, although they try to predict what could be affected and fix if something comes up.
      • Some issues simply can't come up on QA shard due to load and/or structure differences.
      • Another point is that thousands of people are just statistically more likely to stumble into some weird bug.
    • Mike referred to Foundry that kept breaking from things that shouldn't affect it in the slightest.
      • He also referred to how yesterday C-Store window was causing frame rate drop, despite them not touching anything related.
    • One of problems with feedback from Tribble server: there's almost no people there.
    • Jeremy finds that videogame industry have much quicker feedback, but also is more exhausting to deal with sometimes.
    • Mike finds it detrimental for mental health to constantly go through feedback without breaks, especially because as a face he receives a lot of personalized hatred that he had to go trough, even when he understands and accepts the reasons.
    • Mike hadn't received answer for lack of WoK uniform on XBox.
    • What helps Jeremy play same missions over and over is that it's always changing: there's something new every day, especially during the balance playtests. He also likes finding solutions.
    • There's a sorting list of priorities for creating new things and fixing old, based on severity, time to fix, obscurity, ets.
      • As such, there are cold pragmatism moments, when some old bugs are noted, but pushed down and down the list as rare and non-critical.
      • Crashes are highest priority category.
    • Bug with two active ships is actually from before the update, but was very rare one that they are unable to reproduce.
    • Thing that annoys Jeremy is that sometimes bugs that seem tiny and easy-to-fix to people, but actually are some elusive or too-deeply-rooted monsters.
    • Cryptic team feels that public bug list would give more annoyance than alleviate it (for example because of priority reasons above "Why that bug is up for so long?").
      • There's also more primitive issue of time that it would take to do that thing or to patrol the forums and reddit and vocally acknowledge every one, though they do try to read as much bug reports as possible.
      • That being said, they want to show people that they are listening. Mike will try to at least give "we saw that" acknowledgements.
    • QA team is aware about community people keeping list of bugs and check it periodically. They noted that list did show them some bugs they weren't aware about before or talked about issues that are actual, but unfixable, but also sometimes contains things that are working as intended, just misunderstood, or are dislike of design choices.
    • After being reminded of it, Jeremy talked about boff specialisation bug:
      • It was actually very easy to reproduce.
      • Puzzling thing about it is that they tested the system before the update, checked the compatibility with the rest of content, all was fine, but then in two weeks something totally unrelated was added that affected it and bug appeared.
    • There were times when during the work process when horrible bug appeared, so they had to reverse to previous version, returning already-fixed bugs to get rid of worse one.
    • There were times when seemingly unsolvable bugs were fixed by engine updates coming from Neverwinter or Magic.
      • There were times when engine updates broke the most basic and unbreakable things.
    • STO team did loose some people to Magic, but vacancies were filled afterwards.
    • Oberth class is Mike's personal issue. Yeager class is Thomas' one.

Idea: Making the Crossfield bridge available for the Inquiry

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 12:22 AM PDT

Since Cryptic only does interiors if they are in a mission, I understand that they won't make an Inquiry bridge, especially since we only saw parts of it for a few seconds. However, the Inquiry bridge seen in Picard was evidently a slight redress of the Discovery bridge. What I suggest is making the Crossfield bridge available for use on the Inquiry. This is a low effort solution that I think most people would be happy with. Sorry if anyone has already had this idea.

Now the hail button for the next one, "once and future..." is grey and when I hover it says "talk to contact phillip cray", but Phil isn't in my "available" contacts list and he wont give the mission in person at esd either. I subbed a support ticket but every time I try and check it it say "could not connect try later". pew pew
