The dev team needs to be bigger than just a small handful of people. It's becoming increasingly obvious that the team is way too small to be effective.

Now I know that's something easier said than done so maybe cryptic needs to start giving incentives for players to help work out all the kinks before release on tribble? The caveat being that the incentives are only handed out to players that fill out a survey akin to what most games use for beta testing programs?

Tl;dr - cryptic, I know you're swamped. Let us help you.

Proposal: Lower the Event requirement to 14 days.

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 07:57 AM PDT

The current event takes 20 days of completion to unlock.

Both the event and the TFO are a minimum of 15-20 min to complete as opposed to previous events that have had not only shorter, but more varied options to completion.

Two days into the event we have also had a ton of bugs and now a server outage that effects peoples ability to complete the event.

We don't expect Cryptic to just admit things aren't going well and give us all the reward for free, so how about a compromise? I propose that Cryptic lower the current event requirement from 20 days to 14 days. This will reduce the requirement on players that just want the reward and give them a little break once they finish the event. It will also reward those that enjoy the content as the amount of bonus Dilitihum possible will increase. This bonus Dilithium is fair considering the time investment.

20 Days for an event of this type is excessive in my opinion and is asking too high of a time investment of a player base that is already getting burned out from non stop event cycles. I propose Cryptic considers a reduction from 20 days to 14 days.

    Thoughts?

Unannounced Change: The maximum number of ingame chat channels has been reduced from 20 to 5?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 06:23 AM PDT

It appears that sometime yesterday (presumably in the patch?), Cryptic changed the maximum number of ingame chat channels that you can subscribe to read/post in. It seems to have been reduced from 20, down to 5, with the following error message appearing if you try to join a 6th channel:

[System]You cannot subscribe to more than 5 channels.

If you had previously joined more than 5 channels, you will not lose access to them, but you cannot join any more until you get down to less than the cap of 5. This means that if you leave one, you will not be able to rejoin it until you are under the cap.

Please note that this is not related to the restrictions around being a 'new account' (ie: the restrictions on using chat until an account has >20hrs ingame or has bought zen). This affects my own account - and I have been playing for around 8 years and have made multiple $ purchases. It also affects all of the 5-6 other players I have consulted with - all of who have played the game for some time, have LTS, etc.

This change was not documented, so has been made for unknown reasons. Its unclear if its just a temporary measure or is a permanent reduction. I'm therefore personally withholding my judgement for now.

However, if it is permanent, I fear it will have a negative quality of life impact: a channel cap of 5 is frankly extremely low. There are several global channels like Redditchat, NoP Public Service, the DPS channels, that are pretty essential for keeping track of what is going on socially - these basically take up most/all of the cap, making it much harder to interact with people outside these bubbles.

Established players will only be partially affected for now (as they will not be kicked out of the channels they are already in), but will be unable to join anything new until they get under the cap.

Views? Or is anyone able to shed any insights on whether this is permanent or temporary?

There is one really simple reason for all this time gated stuff.

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 07:12 AM PDT

Buyout. They actually want it to feel like a slog so many people will just say "screw it" and spend some money. The day they added they buyout option to events meant they had to make them long enough and painful enough that people would rather spend money to avoid them. Sad but true.

So it's a choice between grinding a long, time-gated Episode, and a long, time-gated TFO...

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 12:35 AM PDT

I suspect many people will end up burned out after this month's event...

The TFO is over 15 minutes long, and for me personally it already bugged out during the Transport evacuation phase - one of the transports didn't leave the starbase, so we had to wait another 5 minutes (sic!) for it to be destroyed by the synths. Because that particular part wasn't hard-timed for whatever reason.

The Episode is fine, but is yet another instance of multiple waves of enemies spawning indefinitely while a hidden timer runs its course. Even if skipping the dialogues it'll take around 20 minutes to complete.

Some might say "it's just 20 minutes a day, what's the big deal?", but it's 20 minutes a day doing the same thing over and over and over again, where your actual performance doesn't impact anything other than a few Mark rewards, which at this point I don't even need on any of my characters.

The TFO is nicely done, but it's the same as Mirror Invasion Event - people will AFK and/or end up burned out after a few days. It's the worst kind of content, in my opinion, regardless of how "cool" it seems. Anything that has to be repeated so many times is gonna end up hated by the end of the event.

I really wish Cryptic would at least add a Patrol or two alongside the Episode and the TFO. I'd rather run three patrols at this point than run either of the current choices.

and I recommend playing through it at least once with the sound up. much like To Hell with Honor usses Wagner's Ride of the Valkeries, Synth Wave uses Holst's Mars, The bringer of war.

Is this some kind of sick joke? Does cryptic really hate the community this much? As it is right now I can never join another channel unless I leave all of my other channels.

Can we talk about the new Synth TFO? What is this music?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 09:53 AM PDT

Just played the new TFO yesterday, and overall I enjoyed it. It may not be the most popular opinion, but I liked the pacing of it and the focus on multiple objectives. However, what is that polyphonic music that they have playing for the duration? Honestly, once I noticed it I couldn't un-notice it, and it became really obnoxious. Has anyone else noticed and recoiled from the music present in the new Synth TFO? Is it only me?

To People that Can't Claim the EPIC Store PACK

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 04:18 AM PDT

Found out what the Issue is, You need to Close the ARC launcher, i had it running in the background while i was playing via the epic launcher. (you need to fully close it down using ctrl alt del or clicking the chevron on the taskbar and closing ARC from there)

Once I did that and started STO, i got a message about playing from the epic launcher in green writing in the top right hand corner. (notification) Then the epic pack was uncer starter packs in the zen store. SO Happy :)

I didn't see this mentioned anywhere else on the front page. I only saw it because I was cruising the bug reports thread, but according to /u/Borticus-Cryptic they did some overhauling of the underlying code this patch. It may be in the patch notes now, but who ever reads those things? ;)

Just making sure it gets put out there because, if I hadn't seen this post, I sure as heck would have never noticed until I went to try and spend a skill point!
