    Promo ships make me not even want to play STO anymore.

    I would have spent thirty bucks on it. Cause I do like the design, and I love cruisers. I love my Arbiter, this would have been like an upgrade to it. I buy C-Store ships occasionally, the option to do that is good to have, if I decide on a weekend, "Yeah, let me get this ship."

    But a promotional ship can cost billions of credits. The economy in STO is based around buying keys, and selling them on the exchange. Whether with real money, or with the dilex to grind for zen.

     

    I think the new ship looks pretty okay, and I do love Federation Cruisers, so I would have purchased it from the C-Store. The console looks like it pairs well for battlecruisers. And I already have the Arbiter (a C-Store Ship, mind you) so the two piece set bonus looks really good for maybe a BO Phaser build. (Which is what the Arbiter does best.)

     

    But as a casual player I'll never have the credits to buy this on the exchange, and I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on keys. Or grind 12 characters for dilithium.

    Grinding Endeavors and Tour the Galaxy, you can make around 1 - 2 million a day if you're lucky. Some promo ships go for BILLIONS of Credits. So you're looking at literally years of grinding assuming you don't buy anything else. Just kind of disappointed this is another ship I won't be getting. I'll put it in the box where I kept my desires for a Temporal Connie.

     

    I've said my piece. Though I am extremely disgusted that greed and loot crates have taken over the MMORPGs that I love. I think I'll be taking a break from STO for a while.

    Before I go into details, I must apologize for limiting this to PS4 Captains. It's the only system I have this game on, so I can not offer this same deal to XB or PC Captains. Perhaps another seasoned user on those platforms may feel inspired to do something similar.

    This is an idea I have been toying with for a few weeks now. I've been sitting on a fair amount of Lobi crystals, mostly because I don't know which ship I would want. The ones I have wanted I already bought, and the ships I'm using now are fun enough to last me until we get some Legendary Klingon ships too, but I digress. Rather than continue to sit on those crystals and hope something will be added to the list that I want, I feel it would be best to let someone else have them.

    How best to go about this contest? I don't want to make it too complicated with rules and what each of you has to do to enter. Brevity has its benefits, afterall. So I'll keep it simple:

    Tell me what you love most about this game. What makes this game something you wanted to play, and why you keep playing.

    That's it. Use as much, or as little, detail as you wish. Entries will be accepted until Sunday, September 6th, when I will read through the responses and pick a winner.     Prior to March 20th, 2019, every promo ship was cross-faction. With the new promo, 5 of the last 7 have been fed-only. Happy Year of Klingon!

    The only ones usable by a non-fed were the D7 FDC and jellyfish.

    I genuinely hate this. I want to fly cool alien ships, not standard fed ships. I thought the basic stuff would go in the C-store, but alas, that seems to have died.

    This has also locked some of the most interesting ship types to federation, such as science destroyer and frigate (that isn't event only).

    I was logged in, in the middle of a patrol and then, poof, no more connection and now when I try the launcher, it says it lost the connection to the account server.

    The next lockbox ship is Riker's ship from the last episode of Picard, and why that makes no sense

    If you saw the last episode of Picard, you saw this is not a rare ship. An entire fleet of these ships appeared in the episode:

    Whats more, Picard is very near STO's time period, so this is not some ancient or future ship that is "out of place" in STO's time period...but they still put it in a lockbox instead of the C-store.

    The only "good thing" about this (for me) is I didn't like how the ship looked at all so I don't actually want this. But it's still a pretty bad sign IMO.

    Yes, a "modern" mass produced ship being in a lock box is a completely greedy and morally bankrupt move by the people who made that decision.

    But one person who had nothing to do with that is Thomas, and IMO the ship he made actually looks better than how it appeared in the show. So I just wanted to say good job to Thomas on the ship itself, irrespective of the way it's being put in the game.

    Hey Cryptic, if you're going to complain that the game is too old, why not shut it down?

    There is constant complaining on streams (and this most recent stream was no exception) about players wanting more content in the game (Reputations, Specializations) yet you can churn rebranded C-Store ships as Promo (and Promo as C-Store) all day, every day that people keep on buying. Stop being greedy and give STO some end game content already and people might play a TFO other than ISA (btw we play ISE now).

    Also fix your damn bugs. "Year of Klingon" is "Year of Bugs". Every release has been filled with bugs and every blog post filled with spelling mistakes.

    I know I'm gonna get railed for this but Someone needs to say the blunt truth every once in a while. Why does Cryptic deserve our hard earned money when they barely respect the players? It's so obvious when you take a ship and re-skin it, maybe throw a Commander Specialization on it and throw it in a gamble box (or rebrand it as a "Legendary" ship). It's getting old.

    Mirror Universe ships have been consistently in the bottom of T5 ships on the exchange for a while now, and with good reason: Namely, they can't be upgraded.

    Suddenly, they're no longer in the bottom of the heap for prices. They're still super afforidable of course, but some fairly decent T5 ships are now cheaper than them, icnluding some with free upgrades. Any theories? Are people just playing gotta-catch'em-all with Admiralty cards?
