    Late April on STO

    Posted: 04 May 2020 11:14 PM PDT

    Late April on STO

Okay, I want to describe something. These are my best three days on STO for about a year.

A fleet mate was accolade farming. He wanted to collect accolades that are hard to get or rare.

So he did this thing where he had missions in progress on one toon. We teamed up and he shared the missions. Then he logged off that toon, and logged onto another toon and I shared the missions back with him and then we went and did these missions.

I had a great ol' time. I was playing WITH someone. We were pursuing a goal. It was not one I'd have ever chosen for myself. But the existence of a goal that could only be done if we teamed up to do it made my contribution meaningful.

These were accolades in content that was now depreciated. I'd played most of these years ago with my main toons, but I hadn't revisted them in a long time. It was great to revisit old places and see old maps. Get some screen shots in places that are not seen often.

My Fleetie has some whackjob BOFFs. His toon was a TOS guy. So he had BOFFs of Christine Chapel and Chief Kyle. Not the holograms. He made these himself.

He even had RUK Mk II.

It was just as much fun to see his weird Boffs as it was to beam down, run around maps and achieve mission goals.

For a few brief moments. STO was the game I wanted it to be.

And now, logging in, doing dailies and Endeavours is even sadder. When will I get to play the game I enjoyed again?

    So I request the following

    One

An endeavor system that rewards teams. Especially a ground based Endeavour system where the points accrue to team mates engaged in the endeavour

And for that matter - in the current endeavor system. If the Endeavor is Kill thirty X's, then why don't team kills count? If the Endeavour is Do X amount of Y damage, then why doesn't a team mates Y array damage count for the team?

The Devs missed a good bet to encourage team play there.

    Two

Maybe redo ESD or Starfleet Academy as a place where Boffs can be called in, so we can observe and enjoy each others BOFFs.

Some folks put some work into those and you never see it unless you are doing team ground missions.

You can see other people's BOFFs at Numbus III, but showing off BOFFs there is never as popular as Id like to see it.

Maybe have Boffs Manifest at the fleet Starbase?

One idea might be to have BOFF missions where the Boff is sent to meet another player and hand them something to get a signature. That way you could show off a BOFF to a friend. A little bit of candy for each player would make it nice.

    Three

I know some of the old content is odd. Sometimes it's buggy. Sometimes the play is awkward.

But instead of just breaking the link to those, why not add an "Optional" tab to the Mission Log and let people play older, depreciated content if they wanted to?

One of the fun things for me about STO was the sheer number and variety of different places to go. After all Star Trek is about Strange New Worlds.

Removing places to go might make things more streamlined - but it also removes the variety of places to visit.

So leave thing streamlined for the power levelers, but give us explorers and odd balls the ability to poke into the older corners of the game.

There has got to be a way to make the creativity and occasional oddness of the players part of the content and attraction of the game.

I really enjoyed playing Foundry Missions when that was a thing, just because The different creators added a level of variability and strangeness that a small team of devs cannot match.

Even though I understand that the Foundry was a nightmare to maintain and troubleshoot.

Honestly I don't care about having the best PVP gear or the most efificent build for DPS or whatever. Some folks do enjoy stuff like that and more power to them.

But Really, often I don't have much reason to care about grinding then endeavors or grinding the events to get a new ship. That has its place

But for a few days. I was playing WITH someone. We were slipping through an obscure door into the basement to play depreciated content, and my team mate got something he wanted out of it and I helped.

And for those few days, STO was a much much better game for me.

BTW, the other times when STO was the game I wanted was when a friend of mine newly joined and I got to go through it with him as a team. That was fun too

For me STO is more fun when I am playing with someone rather than grinding away by myself.

Just act natural, it'll be fine, surely nobody will notice your, er, crew?

    What’s your favorite energy type?

    Posted: 05 May 2020 07:54 AM PDT

Personally, I'm a big fan of phasers. It's only a small chance, but the ability to just completely knock out any target's shields for even a few seconds in the middle of a crowded firefight is just too good to pass up.

Even if you're in a big, slow cruiser and you can't turn to fire torpedos in time (or if you just don't use torpedos at all), the chance to leave any ship—whether it's a B'Rel Bird-of-Prey or a Borg Unimatrix—completely exposed to hull damage is potentially life-saving.

I also really like the extra shield damage on Tetryons, but you need a lot of them firing at once before the bonus stacks up to anything significant.

Does projectile damage have an impact on "energy nullifiers" ?

    Posted: 05 May 2020 09:31 AM PDT

    Hi fellow captains,

I have to admit I just love the Hur'q ships, wish there would be more playable ones.

As I roamed the Badlands with my Hur'q Assembly lately, I noticed that you can use "relocate mines" for your spawned "energy nullifiers".

Those are mine-like energy "bubbles", that act like mines from...my observation. (Spawned by the Assembly's "Nullifier Tractor Field"console, or the "Nullifier Warheads" from the Ravager Escort's trait).

Now I wonder if anybody knows if they are impacted by projectile damage, exo stats...or nothing at all ?

Because...that would just be great for a torp build with the "Nullifier Warheads" trait, that spawns those things just when shooting torps 😁. At least in my theory...

    Thx in advance.

    Gateway to Gre'Thor is bugged

    Posted: 05 May 2020 06:55 AM PDT

TFO Gateway to Gre'Thor occasionally gets stuck on "Defeat the remaining fleet" after the boss has been defeated. There are no enemies though, and "red" battle mode has ended. The "boss" area is still highlighted though. The mission doesn't end which forces you to quit.

From what I can see this bug was present since the day the mission came out and there are several bugreports (some of them 4 years old) already in this official subreddit. When the devs are going to fix it?

Like cmon it can be solved in a few hours (ok a day) of debugging.

    Hey Cryptic...Endeavors

    Posted: 05 May 2020 09:36 AM PDT

How about coming up with some new endeavors instead of using the same ones over and over and over and over...would be a breath of fresh air in an increasingly repetitive game. It would be an easy way to give us more reasons to use all the ships you keep trying to sell us.

    Idle Klingon thought

    Posted: 04 May 2020 05:29 PM PDT

Why would anyone main a Fed when the Klingon is superior for battle?

STO playstyle is to kill wave after wave of enemy and damn the diplomacy. Makes zero sense for Starfleet, but for a Klingon? Hold my bat'leth.

Want the DPRM? 600 million EC or better for a Fed, around 20 million for a Klingon.

And ships? What could be better than the fleet Mat'Ha Raptor? The only reason it doesn't have a battle cloak is so you might buy another ship.

I love the Federation ships, but man while the Klingons don't have much, what they do have is awesome.

How the cryptic game launcher/arc launcher isn't installing the game ... also known as "go home installer, you are drunk"

    Posted: 04 May 2020 08:53 PM PDT

this is a PC Bug report of an installer gone mad.

Timeline: - Something after 3am I got into a talk on discord on STO and i darkly remembered i have a char there and "could quickly reinstall it". (try 1: start steam, click install) at 4% downloading at sub-optimal speed (300-600kb/sec) it stopped downloading, at all

(try 2) I restarted, I tried to redownload all, hang up at 2% this time.

(try 3) I got a tip to try the downloader from here:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/71otsk/sto_without_arc_launcher/

So i did ... all went well with 1300kb/sec (my maximum download speed .. yes i know that internet is horrible, yes it is really my maximum, yes i should move to get better internet, but hey, its germany, so you take what you get ...)

But now the realy spooky stuff starts:

    3:46 AM https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/submit?selftext=true

(as you can see ... no download from the client ... at all ... it still takes on some kb ... from 1 to 10 ... every few seconds for 1 second ... i decided "to let it run and see what happens)

    4:10 AM https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/707031477971320853/707051873248739390/Unbenannt.JPG

(after 40min of unrestricted access and me eating ... this is the result) BTW: internet on the side was working totally fine (like browsing and even watching a video at only 480p to give it some space to work if it does

5:27 am (now the spoky stuff - again i didnt touch anything) https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/707031477971320853/707070823412006922/Unbenannt.JPG

(yes you saw that right ... the patching went up ... but the amount of downloaded data went down).

For any explenation and/or fixes i would be REALLY REALLY

I've done the New Romulus mission, secrets of the ancients, 3 times now and it still keeps telling me to sing along D'Tan and to go to the underground ruins where the mission begins, how can I get it to fully submit the mission?

    question about the exchange

    Posted: 04 May 2020 09:57 PM PDT

normally I sort ascending, and I get the least expensive 400 items.
sometimes, descending to look at the most expensive 400 items.

how do you see the items in between?

another question... is inflation nuts right now, or is it people buying up all the lower priced items and marking them up? many traits have more than doubled in price from a few months ago (where prices were fairly steady for the last year). if its just inflation, do people have better ways to get EC than I'm aware of (admiralty, patrols and tour of duty as last resort)? I know my EC income hasn't changed. ship prices don't seem to have changed much.

it doesn't appear to be scarcity issue - there's often a dozen or more of an item, all sitting at the same price.
