Monday Megathread - your weekly "dumb question" thread

    Posted: 04 May 2020 06:10 AM PDT

    Welcome to Monday!

And welcome to May. At least I'm told it's May. There have also been conflicting reports it could also still be March. Anyway, we're going to get the week going with another question megathread.

Post all the questions you may have about anything STO-related. PC? Console? Everyone's welcome to post their questions here.

Stay safe out there and happy flying!

Requesting a new filter for Ship Selection Officer in the Ship Yard

    Posted: 04 May 2020 02:12 AM PDT

A check box filter option I would like to see is simply "Ships I can get now". The officer already knows what currency I have. If I wanted to shop, I would simply uncheck this option and get the full library of ships in the system.

Ship interiors really need a revamp

    Posted: 03 May 2020 07:33 PM PDT

I think the revamp of the DS9 interior has conclusively demonstrated that despite what Cryptic believed at the beginning, interior sets don't actually need to be absurdly scaled-up to be playable in third-person. Sure, they can't be 100% show-accurate, you need a little extra headroom for the camera. But DS9 used to be massive, with wide hallways and 15-foot-high airlock doors. They changed it to be almost entirely show-accurate, and it works fine. The same goes for the Galaxy Class interiors in the mission "Beyond the Nexus," as well as the recreation of the Voyager bridge, medbay, and interior. The hallways are a tiny bit more spacious than the Galaxy/Intrepid of the shows, but they're much more accurate and it works perfectly.

I think by now we've proven that it works just fine to have much more show-accurate and realistic interior scales, but the ship interiors are still built around absolutely cavernous rooms that, frankly, look absolutely ridiculous. Given that there's actual gameplay that goes on inside your ship (only Duty Officers, but still), I think it's high time they gave some attention to redesigning the bridges, rooms, and hallways with the same design philosophy that gave us the redesigned DS9 and the faithful Galaxy and Intrepid interiors.

    Game improvement idea: Sector Controls

    Posted: 04 May 2020 01:44 AM PDT

    Game improvement idea: Sector Controls

So you jump into sector space, open the map, select your target and your ship starts flying. As you don't want to stare at empty space for two minutes, you decide to start a couple of duty officer assignments and whoops, you overshot your target by 20 lightyears. What the f* this is the 25th century how can the autopilot be that incompetent? Well, no more with this new feature (that I just made up in Paint):

    https://preview.redd.it/kz11tdwwlpw41.png?width=406&format=png&auto=webp&s=2dfe547834129bee0549cdb14a5d2e9496dae796

When the autopilot engages, you can hit the Lock-button to lock your ship's controls and let your ship fly itself directly to your target. The autopilot won't disengage when you accidentally hit W or something. If you want to take control over your ship again, just click the Unlock-button.

Further improvements: How about being able to select and auto-nav to targets outside the current quadrant? Maybe via some sort of search list.

    Little rant about TFO system.

    Posted: 04 May 2020 10:04 AM PDT

I have a Multi-Mission Recon Explorer Ship and was doing some daily tfos. I randomly joined Procyon V. My teammates were pretty beefy so i said ok, they are gonna pull the aggro and i'll close all the portals. Exactly that happened. I did not fire a single shot and i shut down all 5 portals on all the 3 phases. The tfo ended extremely fast and you know what happened? I got an AFK Leaver penalty. Now that systems needs some fixing.

    Missing Reman options

    Posted: 04 May 2020 11:34 AM PDT

I just popped back into the game after a long absence, and I remember having a Reman character and a KDF character as well as my Federation 'main' character. Both the Reman and KDA characters are missing from my list, and Reman can't even be chosen in the creation menu. Did they change something? I am very confused.

Tactical Console - Harmonic Resonance Relay

    Posted: 04 May 2020 11:23 AM PDT

    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Preserver_Resonant_Technologies_Set#Console_-_Tactical_-_Harmonic_Resonance_Relay

I ran the mission to get this as the link above says its 4% armor penetration for weapons and I had a few extra phoenix upgrades to use before the upgrade weekend ended.

Fully upgraded, the console says its 5.3 armor penetration for weapons, not 5.3%.

But I don't see any change in any of my ship's "tactical skill-based stats" when I equip it. I expected it to increase "starship hull penetration", but it doesn't.

Is this just a case of this console boosting a skill that no longer exists? (skill changes which happened at some point)

Or is it in fact boosting some skill (armor penetration) that isn't listed on the ship's stats page?

Best Ground Weapons of Each Damage Type

    Posted: 04 May 2020 05:18 AM PDT

Hey all! I've made a few more alternate captains because of the experience bonus event and I like to make each captain and crew one damage type to make endeavors easier.

What do you all think are the best ground weapons for each damage type? 1. Phaser 2. Disruptor 3. Plasma 4. Polaron 5. Antiproton 6. Tetryon 7. Physical 8. Other

Playthroughs/Summaries of Amanda Barclay/other Foundry missions?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 10:19 PM PDT

I've been searching for any information online about Amanda Barclay from XR-377's Foundry missions, hoping to put together an article for the Star Trek Expanded Universe wiki as a part of a project to preserve legacy data from the Foundry. Google and Duckduckgo haven't been very helpful so far. A couple of brief reviews, and one playthrough of a "Plague of Broccoli" on YouTube are all I've been able to find. If anyone has any info from those missions, or knows where I could find it, please let me know. Whether it's summaries, character info, actual text copied from the missions, or YouTube videos I'm not finding for whatever reason. Anything you have would be greatly appreciated. I'm happy to take anything from any Foundry mission, actually, but I figured the Amanda stories were a good place to start.

    New-ish to STO

    Posted: 03 May 2020 11:49 PM PDT

    Hello Everyone,

I started playing STO a little less than 2 weeks ago, I did a lot of research here looking at builds and reading threads, this is a great place for help and info.

Thanks to the bonus XP event after perhaps a week I am at level cap and a bit outmatched now.

I decided to go with a science captain I liked the idea of not being painted into an energy weapon corner so to speak, I found a few well accepted builds for science ships, torpedoes and magic woohoo! I even picked up my first T6 ship, the Sommerville. I have been trying to do patrols to level up ship mastery, and missions to pick up some the pieces to my ultimate build but I am having a real hard time surviving them. I don't have any gear that didn't drop, I did pick up a couple of pieces off of the exchange but the purple weapons are kinda of expensive yet.

What is the trick to surviving in a meekly provisioned science ship? Any advice is appreciated!

    Weird loading issues on PS4

    Posted: 04 May 2020 08:32 AM PDT

Anyone else experiencing weird loading issues lately? Like, I'll pop up in Earth Spacedock but every time I move I immediately bounce back. Can look at the menus but it ignores my selections. Chat window comes up completely blank. And then like 30 seconds to a minute later, I'll find myself suddenly in a different part of ESD entirely and everything is loaded.

Either that or I fall through the floor and start plummeting toward Earth. That's only happened twice so far though. And it seems like it's only in the last two or three days.

Underrated ships you like or surprised you?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 07:20 PM PDT

What are some underrated ships you like or surprised you?

So I've held on to my fleet modules for a long time after reaching T6 on all of my reputations. I decided to spend a few on the T6 Fleet Recon Destroyer- New Orleans Class. It's been a surprisingly fun little ship. It has a 4/3 weapon layout with 5 tac consoles and an experimental weapons slot. Boff seating provides Commander Tactical, LT. Commander Science and Lt. Commander Universal/Intel, LT Engineering and Ensign Tactical. So it provides a little flexibility in set-ups.

"The Recon Destroyer provides a middle ground between the toughness of a cruiser and the maneuverability and firepower of an escort."

    Posted: 04 May 2020 07:04 AM PDT

    Folks,

I've been looking for a list of anomolies that interact with Spore-infused Anomolies. I know the following do:

    • Gravity Well

    • Tyken's Rift

    • Subspace Vortex

    Are there any others?

    Thanks and LLAP

Advanced Piezo-Photon Torpedo Launcher vs Quantum Phase Torpedo.

    Posted: 04 May 2020 06:51 AM PDT

The title says it all, which one is the best?. I have both and i used the Upgrade weekend to Gold them out alongside my other space and ground equipment, but which of these two torps are the best and why?

My thoughts : On paper i seemed to notice that the Piezo torp does much more damage to enemy shields with torp spread and high yield torps, and it seems to compensate for it's lower base damage with a higher reload.

Do i get this right ? I have zero Chance to complete 20/20 daily in Q Winterevent ?

    Posted: 04 May 2020 05:47 AM PDT

    Hi there,

made a 2 year break from STO and returned some days before Q´s Winterevent repeated itself. I made every day the daily but realizing i am now at 11/20 and the event will end in 6 hours...

I have nearly 250 lobis, but need 450 to buyout the 2019 ship.

Can i turn in the daily progress tokens on alt chars, even when the event is over ?

Where do i get 200 lobi in 6 hours ?

Returnee with little experience, need help beefing up ship

    Posted: 04 May 2020 12:24 AM PDT

Until last month, I hadn't played the game for 4 years or so. Now that I'm back and enjoying it again with the little free time I have been given, I can't figure out how to make my ship stronger.

Back in the day I know I could always find (not necessarily afford) some pretty strong upgrades in the market, but now when I search it doesn't seem like there's a lot available that makes any difference. It's getting disheartening to have my ship destroyed repeatedly like I'm stuck in a causality loop until I can get my pirate distress signal out and have NPC ships arrive and slaughter the enemy with ease while I sniffle weakly in the background.

Where do I find stronger weapons and shields these days? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
