A small Year of Klingon wishlist...

    Posted: 07 May 2020 01:26 AM PDT

To start with, I'll just say that I am extremely happy that after 10 years Cryptic is finally giving Klingons some deserved love. Regardless how this'll end up, it's great to know some updates are in the works.

That said, as a KDF player since beta, there are some particular things I'd like to see, so I've decided to post some suggestions, some of which shouldn't really be too hard to implement. The rest is just wishful thinking. Feel free to post your ideas of what you'd like to see as well.

    • Bring back Klingon computer voice messages - many years ago all battle messages were communicated in a unique Klingon computer voice. This was replaced with generic FED computer voice after Delta Rising went live as far as I remember. I'd say bring it back, or give players an option to choose in the options menu which voice should play.
    • Klingon Targ Combat Pet - this has been a huge omission, and is long overdue. Again, years ago there were talks of introducing a Targ Breeding Minigame of some sorts. There are even Targ Pits in the First City. Sadly, all we have is a C-Store non-combat Targ Pet. I realize adding a whole system/minigame may not be a top priority, but I'd still like to get a Combat Targ, either as a C-Store purchase, or mission reward. The latter shouldn't really be too difficult to add, I imagine.
    • Klingon Legacy (Mini)Pack - yeah, I know, this one isn't as simple. But honestly, my main issue with the recent Legacy Pack was that it only included FED ships, with nothing my KDF could use, other than traits. Now, with KDF ships also getting revamped, introducing a few Legendary Variants would be viable. Klingons have many iconic ships, many of which could be turned into the FED Legendary equivalents. B'Rel, Vor'Cha, K't'inga (TOS and DSC), Negh'var, Bortas... It doesn't even have to be like the Legendary Bundle, but I'd really like to see new T6 variants of those iconic ships, not just updated skins.
    • T6 Vo'Quv - yeah, no comment needed here I imagine. ;)
    • Klingon Recruitment Event - yes, I know it's a huge undertaking for Cryptic to run these events. And that supposedly they don't want to run it for just one faction anymore. Still, I think there should be at least a small encouragement for players to start a KDF character to see the new content. And if making it KDF-only is out of the question, then make it Khitomer Alliance recruitment, for all factions. The Khitomer Alliance Battlecruiser's idea surely didn't come from nowhere, so I imagine the Khitomer Alliance itself could be introduced at some point in the game itself. Sadly, this one is just wishful thinking, because I imagine it would require much more effort to prepare and introduce.

There would be many, many more things I'd love to see added for the KDF, but I understand it might be too much, especially considering the times. I imagine many of the content will be done by devs at home, so it's natural many of it will be visual updates and such. Still, if there's a particular idea you have you think it's worth bringing up, then feel free to comment.

PSA: the "Seven" jacket is currently bugged for male characters, but there is an easy workaround

    Posted: 07 May 2020 09:33 AM PDT

Just a friendly PSA: the new "Seven" jacket from Picard(named "civilian 2399" in the tailor) is currently bugged on male characters. At least, the color for the shirt is. However if you switch to another top that has 4 colors (like Antares 1) you will see the "missing" color from the Seven jacket, and can set it to the color you want before switching back to the Seven jacket.

That said, whatever "other" top you choose to find this missing color will be limited to the color palette for that piece, so if you want the full extended color palette options for your shirt you will need to choose something like "colony jacket"(or some other piece you own that has the new/extended color palette).

    Hope that makes sense!

PS: the good news is it's NOT an "off duty" uniform and boffs CAN use it! Woohoo!

    Pahvo Dissension guide

    Posted: 07 May 2020 01:26 AM PDT

    TL;DR at the end.

First, your gear. The focus is on AoE and defending static locations.

    • Specs: Temporal main spec and Commando secondary. There are some situational bonuses, like crouching for a heal, so read the tooltips.
    • Weapons: Must be ranged, AoE preferred. Thompson is great, pulsewave or minigun would be fine, single-target weapons if you must, but melee is too slow, even the Mind Meld Device. The Corfeld laser can be good, but the secondary fire cannot tilt up and down and this place has a lot of slopes.
    • Kit modules: Uncertainty Burst (Temporal spec, dilithium store) and Pahvo Crystal Prism are probably the two strongest modules in the game, and are absolutely great here. Sabotage (lockbox/Exchange, eng only) is similar to Uncertainty Burst, but it's a weapons malfunction instead of a confuse. Apart from those, try AoE, utility, and defensive modules, e.g. Phasic Shroud, heals, Suppressing Fire, Gravity Pull Device (Disco rep), and Exothermic Induction.

    And now the mission.

You start in the middle of the map. Several paths lead away from this central point. There are Agonizers around the big crystal in the middle. Overload it (F) and replace it with a small crystal (F). These spots are also marked by faint white circles on the ground. Shortly, these small crystals will heal the big one, and you can move on to do that repeatedly along one of the paths. Only three paths will be used! A faint white glowing tendril will extend down each valid path. Generally, a group will have two people go down one path and two down another, while a solo player takes the third path.

Along these paths, you'll see big crystals surrounded by Agonizers, just like the first one. Defeat the Terran troops guarding it, then heal the big crystal just like the first one (replace Agonizers with small crystals). You then have to guard these small crystals from enemy groups that will beam in, generally from two directions. If a small crystal is destroyed, replace it. If even one is missing, the control point won't progress. After the big crystal is healed, follow the glowing tendril and move onto the next one.

After an entire path is healed, you'll hit a dead end, and you can use the button at the bottom right ("Low Priority Interaction" UI widget) to beam back to the center. Note that sometimes this will be a default interaction, so be careful that you don't press F while it's up or you'll be booted back to the beginning, wasting time as you run back to where you were. Players who finish their path before the rest will generally transport to the center and help another path. After all paths are done, everyone can beam back to the center and the next phase begins.

After some setup/briefing time, you'll face a steady stream of Terran troops trying to put Agonizers on what look like crystal roots/vines surrounding the arena. Overload the Agonizers and place a small crystal on that spot to heal that root. After a few minutes, the boss will arrive in the center. But it's not one unit - it's two. Use Uncertainty Burst on the pair of them as soon as they arrive so they kill each other and ignore you. Kill them while preventing adds from hurting the crystal root things. After that, you're done.

TL;DR: Ranged AoE weapons, Uncertainty Burst module, Crystal Prism module. Replace Agonizers with crystals. Follow one of three glowing paths - two pairs and one solo player. Replace Agonizers with crystals. Defend crystals until healed, then move to the next. When a path is done, beam back to center. Replace Agonizers with crystals. Defeat bosses.

Ten Forward Weekly 06.05.2020: Year of Klingon Environments

    Posted: 06 May 2020 08:46 PM PDT

    Link: Youtube [37:50]

    Theme: Year of Klingon Environments

Guests: Lead Environment Artist Scot Boyd and Senior Environment Artist Nick Duguid

Twitch was twitchy, Mike decided to pre-record this, so no community questions this time.

    • They're doing that because they now consider normal things that they weren't capable of doing before; as such they're going to revamp the missions that had good story, but outdated gameplay, particularly the tutorial.
      • They also want new klingon players to get more sense of what game feels like now.
    • One of new things is that corridor's segments would now be more varied, instead of same one over and over.
    • Originally it started with updating the Khitomer ground map.
      • Parts-wise map is being rebuild from ground up, though it'll generally retain same shape and layout.
      • That was partly to revisit and standardize 2410 klingon architecture and style.
    • They want to look at more "civilian" klingon architecture.
    • Romulans would "also" see new Khitomer, so... there'll be an entirely new mission there, apparently.
    • Cryptic got motion capture suit and even managed to record a cutscene with it before the quarantine.
    • Federation interiors are very uniform, while klingon ones are much more varied even during the same time period.
    • Klingon lighting is actually very varied and full of warm colours, not just dim red.

Need some help with pinpointing an ability

    Posted: 06 May 2020 09:06 PM PDT

I was in some TFOs today and there was a moment when an image of my ship split from my ship and flew at my target, as if using ramming speed, smashed into the other ship, and disappeared. I have looked through my traits, consoles, etc. and can't seem to find anything that would cause that effect. Any suggestions on what this may be? Was it caused by me or someone else's ability?

Trading BOFFS appears bugged for some characters

    Posted: 07 May 2020 05:18 AM PDT

I know bridge officer candidates can't be traded through mail or account bank only sold on exchange or put in a fleet bank. I have been able to trade them before between myself and another player. Weirdly I was able to trade it to my friend but they were unable to trade it with me on a different toon. We are not in the same fleet so feet bank was not an option- is there something up with overflow or something like that going on? Even tried doing it by changing maps to fix any bugged inventory but still my friend is unable to see boff candidate to trade in trade menu. I can activate the trade menu from my end and am able to trade the boffs just fine- what's the deal?

Let's talk ground PVP; or "Why am I insta-killed on spawning"

    Posted: 07 May 2020 01:51 AM PDT

My newest interesting in STO is Ground PVP. I thought I had a pretty decent setup going, all gear upgraded to maximum, some pretty decent kit modules and the like (trajectory bending, gravitational spike, phasic shroud, bio-essence transfer). However, I am insta-killed by a set players who I regularly see (Darth K, I'm looking at you). They seem to have no cooldowns on their abilities, are immediately revived after I see their health drop to zero and then they run to camp the spawn point and kill me before I can do anything.

How can I defeat them? Is it possible? Or are they running on exploits/cheats? I've tried to engage them in chat to find out what gear/traits/abilities they are using but they just ignore everything. I'm at a loss and would really like to know.

So...what's the current meta for ground PVP running a Fed Tac captain? I would like to win at some point.

Note about Nog, Odo, and Kira in the Hur'q Storyline

    Posted: 06 May 2020 02:47 PM PDT

Did anyone else notice that in a couple of the headshots of the characters talking, they have the collars associated with their canon DS9 uniforms? And that Odo appears wearing a variation of his beige DS9 uniform in a couple of spots in the Hur'q storyline? And then at the end of the Hur'q storyline, when you're in Quark's with Nog and Martok, Nog is wearing his DS9 engineering uniform instead of his captain's uniform?

Did the devs do this after Rene and Aron passed away? Or was it always like that?

    Ground active doff question

    Posted: 06 May 2020 06:55 PM PDT

Are your ground boffs effected by your active ground doffs at all? Like, will my engineer boffs get a chance for extra turrets/mortars and such etc. will boffs using hypos have a chance at spawning nurses and so on? Or should I only use active ground doffs that will effect my captain's abilities directly?

Where are saved character outfit files stored on PC?

    Posted: 07 May 2020 12:48 AM PDT

On Windows 7 specifically, I'm wondering where the saved outfit files are stored? Also wondering why do some saved outfits appear only for certain characters despite them being the same faction, race and gender and having access to the same options in the character creator? Two generic (not Tovan) romulan tactical boffs for a romulan captain, for example, and their saved outfits don't appear to be shared. I know this usually works fine for other races, don't know why romulan saved outfits work differently.
