As a new player, is STO really FREE? Posted: 23 Jul 2021 07:15 AM PDT So, I generally play WoW, and have tried many games throughout the years and just decided this week to try out Star Trek Online. I am reading through guides, tips and tricks, etc, but what I really want to know is if STO is really free to play. I only played the first set of Starfleet missions and noticed several different currencies and that they can be purchased, either directly or in-directly, with real money. So, how FREE is STO? Also, since I am used to paying monthly for MMOs, is there anything a new player should buy? Not for pay-to-win, but more for better starting experiences. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

STO extremely pixelated after last patch Posted: 23 Jul 2021 08:32 AM PDT After the last patch STO has been looking extremely pixelated. It's like my antialiasing is off, game looks terrible. Doesn't matter what antialiasing option I choose, barely makes a difference. I've tried setting /renderscale 4 (and 1 and 2) and it STILL looks pixelated! I'm running it on a max everything, /renderscale 1. Anyone have any ideas? [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Jul 2021 09:29 AM PDT I guess it be that time once again where we make our large suggestions boxes full of improvements for the Devs to look over. With that, here are my ideas for what "Endgame" could look like. Keep in mind these are expansions. The current endgame grind is okay and should absolutely stay. What this game simply needs is more options: Cluster missions: I know these are a bit silly some times, but they offered a nice alternative for grinding. They made the universe feel bigger with these unexplored pockets of space. They don't have to be the old models. But if we had something like it where we did random explorations and missions, they could be a nice change up from the random queues. I played some of the Delta stuff recently and found myself really missing those clusters. Especially the B'Tran cluster... something about that ominous track while you wait for a cluster mission to pop... but anyway, these made the game seem fresh and exciting. Even if there was something similar but not exactly the old missions, I think could go over quite well especially if diplomatic resolutions are an option in all of them. Then again, maybe a whole new exploration mechanic set outside the known space boarders is the best way to go about this. It could be a way to greatly expand the map, while also giving players new life and new civilizations to seek out... Bring back the old style TFOs: It's Saturday afternoon. You have nothing planned and a whole lotta time to kill so why not put on your favorite music and grind out that four hour mission you have been wanting to pass? Seriously getting that Borg set back in the day is still one of my greatest accomplishments. Now I'm not suggesting you gate endgame gear behind a wall like that, but rather give us back the challenging TFOs and maybe give us some unique cosmetics or something. Having those harder longer missions really felt like it gave purpose to this game and beating the hard missions felt like a real accomplishment. More non-combat missions: Kinda similar to clusters, but another idea is maybe having captains do cargo runs or other typically non-combat missions. Of course, a small twist could be made and occasionally have the player get attacked while traveling at warp, but a surprise supply run isn't totally out of the norm for a Captain. Could even make it a lore thing about how supplies are necessary to keep the fleet moving and every Captain needs to do their part on occasion. A New Foundry: Arguably one of the best elements of this game and I know it comes up often, but you can't ignore the reality that it actually was one of the game's greatest elements. Now... I've heard some explanations as to why it went away, but is it really so hard to build a new one? Players loved creating and playing player content, BUT it definitely could be an improved mechanic and more user friendly for other players that aren't as... computer literate. At the end of the day, any form of new player created/suggested content could go a long way. Maybe consider adding a community mission builder where players can come up with and create new stories with the dev team. The idea for these would be TNG style one offs or two parters where the magic reset button is hit at the end. Anyway, these are just some of MY ideas, now lets here some of yours. Doesn't matter if it will happen or not. This is basically us asking for some things to improve the overall endgame experience. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Jul 2021 02:05 AM PDT Which missions give access to systems within the transwarp menu? Such as Alpha Quadrant - Bajor etc, I've lost access to all Alpha Quadrant destinations on my main character as well as options like Risa in the Beta Quadrant? [link] [comments]
Sources of dilithium after finishing rep? Posted: 23 Jul 2021 09:29 AM PDT Pretty much this. I got all my reputation trees to tier 6 (Yay!) but now I am not getting that same amount of dilithium everyday. What other sources of dilithium are there? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Jul 2021 08:47 AM PDT This is just a simple message/request to the devs. Please please don't raise the endeavor level cap for quite some time. Allow some of us who might be able to complete it this year to have it complete for a bit. [link] [comments]

What is everyone's daily routing in-game? Posted: 22 Jul 2021 10:09 PM PDT Just curious as to what you veteran players do in-game on a daily basis. Outside of when new content launches, what are your daily routines? Curious to compare them to mine to see if there's anything I'm missing out on. [link] [comments]
Plug for r/stoscreenshots Request Thread Posted: 22 Jul 2021 11:25 AM PDT Hey all, we have a request thread over at our sister sub /r/STOscreenshots that has some folks wanting to see certain ships/hulls/vanity shields and I wanted to bring some awareness to it. Lots of you enjoy taking shots of your ships and you may be able to help out with some of those requests and win fake internet points. Or maybe you have requests of your own others can help with. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Why the tactical ultimate on a science ship? Posted: 22 Jul 2021 12:23 PM PDT Greetings, captains! I've been playing science ships for quite a while now, and every now and then I look at the tactical ultimate and don't understand why it's recommended so often. Currently on my sci ship I play the technical ultimate while flying Solo ISA and am quite happy with it - but what am I missing? Is there a recommendation for an "all science build"?
