    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 04:07 AM PDT

Are you actually fine with the current state of the game?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 07:22 AM PDT

I'm sorry in advance if this will sound as yet another rant thread. But after 12 years of playing STO more or less actively and enjoying it for the most part, despite numerous flaws, I really need to vent and comment on the current state of the game, and the way it's been handled recently. I'm also curious if it's just me or are there others who feel similarly.

I've already commented in other threads that never before have I felt so tired of STO as I do now. I honestly can say that the only reason I log in on a daily basis is because of all the constant FOMO events, where it's possible to miss-out on some rewards. If it wasn't for that, there simply isn't and hasn't been anything noteworthy in the game for years that would encourage me to play just for the sake of it. That is, in a way that's not forced, or tedious replay-oriented.

At this point I could rant about each and every aspect of the game, how they've changed, or have been ignored completely. I'll try not to do so too extensively, but I'll just say that as much as I enjoy the core mechanics of STO, I just hate the way the game has been handled recently.

The story missions are "fine" for the most part, and obviously are a huge improvement when compared to the early years. That said, they are fun to play once, maybe twice, but they're far from being a replayable content (looking at you FOMO events and Klingon Recruit...). Not to mention, there are numerous, often decent missions that have been removed from the game permanently. Devs promissed us that they missions will be revamped and return, but we all know how that turned out.

Other than that there seems to be less and less replayable/repeatable content, or any incentive to do so. Cryptic has put so much focus on constant FOMO events to keep players logging in daily, but this in turn results in a huge burnout. If you expect me to play the same TFO over and over and over again for nearly a month, then I'll be dreading both the TFO and the game itself by the end of it.

Cryptic has removed not only story missions, but the Foundry and Exploration Clusters as well - yet another source of varied gameplay. True, they've added some Patrol missions, which were a good idea, but there are too few of them, and most of them follow pretty much the same scheme, or focus too frequently on the same enemies.

Existing content is fine if there's an incentive to play, or replay it. Reputations were good for that. The same goes for systems such as Admirality, R&D, Duty Officers and the Endeavors. But those systems seem to be long forgotten. There hasn't been anything new for years when it comes to those. Most of the players have had everything maxed out for years now, while the Endeavors are getting same'y and grindy at this point, with no new objectives or variations being added.

And as much as I appreciate the work of many Cryptic's devs, the actual gameplay side of most of the new content leaves much to be desired. Players have been complaining about timers or infinite waves of enemies spawning for a set number of minutes for years now. Power creep is out of control, and yet the only way Cryptic seems to be addresing it is by artificially blocking progress with time-gates. Which in turn makes all the effort pretty much pointless, because players' performance rarely matters in the long run. For me this is a major issue, because I don't feel like experimenting with my builds or tactics anymore. When I know there's a timer and the game asks me to keep shooting, I just Alt-Tab and come back later... Which really defeats the purpose of playing the game.

And finally this issue also affects the monetization of the game. Because why should I spend any more money on something that's not fun, or by buying something that pretty much will end up being a cosmetic change for the most part, not a change in performance? Not only that, but even if I wanted something new, I am expected to gamble for it, because the majority of new toys are locked behind lootboxes. And even if there's a C-Store release once every few months (at best), more often than not it's an overpriced bundle with worthless junk in adddition to one desired item. So you can buy everything in a bundle, or nothing at all.

The business model of STO has been getting worse and worse ever since the new EP took the lead. Sure, they may say their earnings are way better now than they were before, but this doesn't really reflect on the quality of the base game. Personally I'm just tired of this monetization scheme and I really wonder how long can Cryptic run like this. I mean, am I the only one burned out by this? I truly wonder and I'd like you to express your opinion and comment on the state of the game.

I expect people to say something like "take a break and come back later". Believe me, I did so numerous times. But currently it's been months since the last time I actually had fun with the game. I come back for the events, and such, but that's just a few minutes a day. Rarely I stay logged in and play the game for myself after that anymore. I had fun for a while when leveling a brand new character for the Klingon Event, but after reaching the "endgame" and getting the majority of unique rewards, I've stopped caring altogether.

I just want something fresh and new for STO... Not just constant replays of existing content and constant new ship releases sold through lockboxes... Until then I feel like I'm kind of done with STO, which is sad for me, after playing and being passionate about it for over 12 years.

PS. No, you can't have my stuff.

The adventures of a Delta recruit. Aside from the space battles and putting together a crew of volunteers along the way, it’s been resting bish face in meetings, a Vulcan finger in the eye and listening to Daniels’ sales pitch about protecting the timeline…at least he’s not selling Vena a timeshare.

Does anybody thinks the Kobali people are disgusting?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 07:45 PM PDT

Just playing through the Kobali Crisis on my Delta Recruit, and it's actually my first time to dig in these stories...and the Kobali people are just so sick.

When I see the general's son, I was like okay, so you people resurrect dead Kobali and give'em new lives, no biggies, it's your culture. I can respect that.

And then there's the Temple. They were using Vaadwaur people's forzen bodies to turn them into Kobali. Not even corpses, alive Vaadwaurs, just in stasis. The moment I see this and I thought, this is it, I'm not fighting your sick war anymore. I mean, I even felt so sorry for the Vaadwaur people, even they did shoot some adorable Talaxians before.

Then the General's like "Yeah I didn't tell you that? Oops sorry. Anyway now you know it, now get your ass back there and keep fighting this war for me."

Moving on the Act II, after we found out the Vaadwaur soilders are injecting themselves drugs to keep the Kobali from using their bodies, the General's son's response was "How can they prevent our reproduce?". WTF? You are even worse than the Borg. You destroy another race, another culture just so your people made a mistake before and decided taking other people's bodies is easier than finding an actual solution.

Seriously, if the 3 Acts aren't required for my DR, I'm leaving Kobali right now and never coming back.

Resolved an issue that could cause "Faulty Section 31 Holo-Disguise" items to end up in unintended inventory or equipment slots. Resolved an issue that was causing the visual FX for the "32c. Casual Player seeking Advice on Ship Wish-List

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 07:06 AM PDT

I've been playing on and off for a few years now but never really dove deep into the game. Only recently invested enough to actually get a few T6 ships and decided to splurge and get a LTS while it was on sale. So now with the monthly stipend and a little more invested play, a lot more options are on my table.

Basically, I get fun out of this game role-playing, space Barbie-ing, and trying out all the mechanics I can (I'm that guy who can't choose a main in a fighting game and has to play everything a little bit). So basically I have a wish list for ships (mostly C-Store) that I'm saving up for, and reasons for wanting each ship (RP, space Barbie, and a chance to try certain ship mechanics). I hate lockbox/prize pack gambling-like mechanics so any ships I have under that category are mainly pipe dreams that I'll likely never get.

I may never get around to getting most of these, but that's why it's a wishlist. I basically have them listed in the order I'd like to get them, with stuff near the bottom being would-be-nice instead of must-haves. So let me know if there are T6 ships that better suited for what I want, or if I should opt for the single ship or bundle:

    Already Owned:

    • LTS Destroyers
      • Covers destroyer tactical mode/ship morphing mechanics.
    • Jem'Hadar Vanguard Dreadnought Cruiser
      • Covers Vanguard wingman mechanic.
    • Cardassian Intel Ships
      • Covers Intel mechanics and Cardassian RP. As you'll be able to tell later, I'm a huge DS9 fan and love to RP races from the show.
    • M'Chla Refit
      • Covers raider mechanics.
    • Temer Raider
      • Covers Khitomer alliance RP.
    • Mat'Ha Raptor
      • Got it from the recent giveaway. Just a cool ship to have for free.
    • T5 Haakona Advanced Warbird
      • Got it with a free T5 coupon, covers ship separation mechanic, haven't tried it out yet but heard the separated assault warbird is basically the beefiest escort in the game.

    C-Store Wishlist:

    • Alita Strike Wing Escort
      • Ship for my main Fed toon, since I love escorts, hangars, and the Akira design. I'm leaning towards getting the whole the Akira bundle for the consoles and ship costumes.
    • Ty'Gokor Command Crusier
      • Covers command mechanics. Want a good battlecruiser for my main KDF toon, and getting to try the command/inspiration mechanics at the same time would be getting two at once. Considering the whole KDF command cruiser bundle, but the seating, consoles, and look of the Ty'Gokor appeal most to me. Would get the Qoj if I didn't hate the look of DIS KDF ships.
    • Narendra Support Cruiser
      • Covers temporal ship mechanics, as well as a nice full cruiser for my temporal TOS toon. Covers some retro temporal RP as well, planning to use WoK-era outfits while flying this one.
    • Kortar Pilot Raptor
      • Covers pilot mechanics. KDF pilot ships look the best to me, considering the bundle as well, but Kortar catches my eye the most.
    • Gagarin MW Battlecruiser
      • Covers MW mechanics, as well as a DIS Fed ship (which I actually like the look of). Been told this is basically the best MW in the C-Store.
    • Ra'nodaire Support Carrier Warbird
      • Honestly, want some Romulan ships to balance out my mostly Fed and KDF wishlist, and since I love carriers, this seemed like a good choice. Also the coolest looking support carrier imo, but I like the KDF one too...
    • Esquiline Multi-Mission Explorer
      • Don't really have much science on this list, so figured I'd throw in a hangar bay, since again, I love hangars. Could be persuaded to get the bundle, but the Esquiline is my fav of the bunch.
    • Laeosa Research Warbird
      • Partially to get more science, partially for more Romulan representation, but mostly because I just think it's one of the coolest looking Romulan ships.
    • Kara Advanced Warbird
      • Mainly just to have a T6 version of the Haakona, if I end up liking the dual vector console enough. Plus the spinal lance ability looks fun to have. Thought about getting the dreadnought bundle too, the Galaxy-X is neat and the Kolasi siege mode mechanic looks fun too.

    Other:

    • Bajoran Denorios Interceptor
      • Bajoran RP, and the experimental weapon and console look great. Really bummed I missed out on this event ship, would love to fly it.
    • Ferengi Quark Marauder
      • Ferengi RP. Always like transformation/tactical mode mechanics, and the swarm missiles and onboard amenities seem fun.

Anyway, I think that covers all my wants within the game (I mean, I kinda want an Odyssey too, but I don't think I can justify it, no new mechanics to play with). I will definitely take any free giveaway/event ships too. If there are better choices for any of these, or any recommendations on mechanics I'm missing out on, let me know. I'm not heavy into DPS-chasing or perfecting my builds, I just like cool-looking ships with fun mechanics, and I want to try as broad of a spectrum as I can.

    Any feedback is appreciated!

    Fewer Players on Line

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 06:38 AM PDT

Granted it about an hour before the patch today, Thursday June 3rd, but trying to do a Borg TFO to meet daily endeavors requirements is like trying to finding (chicken) hens teeth. Que up for several and just wait, and wait, and wait. And this is for a normal level. Just going through Qo'nos is like going through a ghost town, compared to what I'm use to seeing. Hopefully the patch will fix the major problems, but I'm not going to hold my breath on that one, I know better. At least we won't have to wait very long to find out. 🤷‍♂️
