It's absurd to have bundles cost more than a single Zen transaction allows

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 08:48 AM PDT

The legendary bundle broke new ground at a $300 price tag, but with the introductory sale and a zen bonus I was able to pick it up for $160, which wasn't far from a normal $150 bundle. It also had a $450 version, which was discounted down to $300, but that was such a bad value compared to the other version that it might as well not have existed.

So, up until now the most expensive bundle has essentially been $200. That's also the most zen you can charge at a time, which makes sense.

But, now we're getting a $600 bundle that will be discounted to $300. This is well beyond the limits of a zen transaction. It's ludicrous to require 2 transactions for a single purchase, and it shows just how off-base you're getting with these obscenely expensive bundles. You're literally charging more than the payment system was designed for.

I'm fine with focusing on whales so long as you don't neglect the average player, which you have. I'd like to see some normal-priced new C-store ships soon.

    My Captain needs a drink

    Captain's Log, Stardate 99040.2

It's been two weeks since the latest Klingon civil war reached an end. The hull plating on deck twelve is patched up and the repair crews I lent to Commander Bodemann, after the Katsuragi took an unshielded torpedo strike, have returned home.

Home... for now. It hurts to split the crew apart and send them to new posts, but the fleet desperately needs experienced officers. I usually try not to think about how the fleet was decimated in the Iconian War. It still doesn't seem real that our two years of service makes us the old veterans that people look to for guidance. But having seen the results first hand, there's no ignoring it.

I'd expected some fierce fighting as we approached Qo'nos, prepared for the worst, you know? But we tore through those waves of hostile targets like a blaze through parched forest, so many fresh KDF ships with fresh KDF crews. And now that the relief of victory has faded, I can only feel regret. What a waste.

Lives truly are the most precious resource, each one unique and irreplaceable.

The new Klingon leadership congratulated me, of course. Praised me even, for my actions. I wonder what my mother would say though... if I even dared to go home.

    Computer, end recording.

    Mastery Package Reference spreadsheet

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 07:22 AM PDT

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JiCLXnwKtstkWbPy1h1sOPyb5LkjIjpFF6RkgKpksUc/edit

This spreadsheet is essentially the Starship Mastery wiki page condensed into a single table - good for a quick reference of what each Mastery Package has to offer. And it's color-coded to distinguish between Offensive and Defensive bonuses. Enjoy!

Fun fact: "Destroyer" is the only Mastery Package that is 100% offensive.

For a couple other spreadsheet's I've put together for STO:

Another place to share your STO inspired art: /r/stoart

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 09:40 AM PDT

To be clear: I am not suggesting that people shouldn't post their art (drawn, screenshots, cosplay, fan fiction, etc) here in the main sub. I enjoy seeing it and hope people keep sharing it here :)

But because the main sub is busy and even cool threads disappear after a day or two, this is simply another place to post your art where it will be visible for a longer period of time:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/stoart/

And speaking of art, if anyone wants to help design the look of that sub you are more than welcome :)

[Fanfiction] 'A Night Long Debated' Part 1

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 07:19 AM PDT

    (EARTH SPACE DOCK, 2411)

    "We can't let this stand!"

The furious Andorian slammed his fist down on the conference table. The room was full of Starfleet's leading voices, but all were silent as the captain of the Enterprise vented the group's collective frustrations.

"What are you proposing Captain Shon? We don't involve ourselves in the internal politics of other races. You're well aware of that," Admiral Quinn replied.

Shon's antennae straightened and his brow tightened as he glanced over at the young admiral on his side of the table.

"Sir, I was in the Seedea system, as was the fleet admiral. We saw them obliterate our starbase firsthand. I had several friends on that station!"

"Many of us did captain," Quinn said sharply.

"Then with respect sir, you should know there was nothing internal about that massacre, or the attack on Andoria, both coming before the Civil War -- and this is the woman the Empire's new 'clone dictator' replaces Ambassador Worf with? Jula is a criminal, Admiral. From an era where Klingons wanted nothing less than to see their banners flying over the ruins of Earth!"

The noise in the room started to pick up as officers began debating these uncomfortable facts amongst themselves.

As Admiral Quinn leaned forward to deliver a response to Shon's fiery remarks, another voice entered the conversation.

    "Sir."

Quinn turned to face the unexpected interruption. "Captain Dax?" Quinn said with a bit of intrigue.

The room became silent again as the petit yet respected Trill took a step forward to speak.

"I've never viewed the Empire with the same reverence as my former hosts. With the exception of General Martok, their leadership has shifted from one corrupt regime to the next. There's no guarantee Lrell will be any better. I lived in the times she and Jula come from. While those Klingons could be extremely honorable, the Empire of that era could also be even more treacherous and deceitful than a Ferengi trader."

Quinn pondered the words of his fellow Trill. The brief silence was broken as a newly minted 2-star admiral came to Quinn's aid.

"Are you suggesting Starfleet end its partnerships with the Klingons, Captain?" Tuvok of Vulcan asked Ezri Dax.

"I'm suggesting the Klingons may not give us a choice if they return to the old ways yet again," Dax replied. "Despite everything that happened at Khitomer, J'mpok was still the only chancellor in history to make interfleet service a reality."

"Besides, we still don't even know for sure that was really J'mpok," Dr. Julian Bashir added, moving closer to his wife. "The new government quickly disposed of his remains before we could run any cerebral scans. However, it simply made no sense for J'mpok to destroy Khitomer just to frame Jula. The Galactic Alliance was already on his side admiral, it's quite possible something or someone was influencing his actions."

The faces in the room grew even more dejected. Starfleet had seen too much alien influence over the last 3 years. From Undine spies to parasitic bluegills, the thought of another invasion was simply unpalatable to all in attendance.

"Admiral, under the circumstances, I am forced to agree with Captains Dax and Shon," Tuvok said, turning to Quinn.

The ranking flag officer sat stunned for a second. Was his Vulcan adjutant really endorsing Starfleet remove the Chancellor of the High Council?

"You Tuvok? You think we should intervene?" Quinn asked, thinking back on the events which led to the infamous Admiral Cartwright's arrest a century ago.

"I am not proposing any course of action. However, it would be illogical to deny the evidence that the Klingon Empire has been severely destabilized by recent events. I too was a witness to the first Khitomer Accords. It is a fact that the original Lrell did not live to see peace between our two governments. Even possessing the Sword of Kahless may not be enough to persuade all of the great houses to accept a clone as their military ruler. Her choice to install Jula as torchbearer, given her distain for the close ties Ambassador Worf and Captain Kagran have with the Federation, may only serve to enflame an already tense situation."

Quinn slowly rose to his feet. He didn't need a Betazoid to know his officers were growing impatient after the Federation Council's decision not to condemn either side for their actions during the Civil War. Thousands of officers were dead and one of the perpetrators had now been seemingly rewarded for those acts. Even for a non-Klingon, this was a matter of honor that could not go unanswered.

"I appreciate your input, all of you," Quinn said looking around the crowded conference area on Earth Space Dock.

"I will take all of these concerns directly to the President. For the time being however, the fleet will remain outside Klingon space. Until the new government makes its intentions perfectly clear, Starfleet must remain out of any infighting that continues. As for Jula, her fate is in the hands of her people and the Federation Council, do I make myself clear?"

Shon's antennae tilted down as he and other attendees nodded in agreement.

    "Dismissed."

    To be continued...

Why is the leaver penalty system so ridiculous?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 11:07 AM PDT

So today I was in a random TFO. Our team draws "To hell with honor". Before the alpha base is down, but after the TFO starts two members drop. So here we are three manning all the way up to the last fight. Some how the three of us basically get spawn camped by the mobs. We respawn and die. Another team member drops team. Two of us remain. We are just respawning and dying instantly. So I am the fourth to drop the group. I get a leaver penalty. Why? Am I supposed to just sit there and die forever?

I remember when if three of your team left you didn't get a penalty. Now everybody does. Can we go back to that? Why am I penalized because others made it impossible to complete the TFO? Or when a bug happens that makes completion impossible? Basically the people that made the TFO impossible got the less severe penalty than those of us that stuck it out and tried to make it work.

I don’t suppose Cryptic ever gives away T5-U Upgrade tokens for events, etc?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 11:34 AM PDT

I've noticed that it's pretty easy to get a few Experimental upgrades over the course of the year via Red Alerts, but do they ever give away T5 upgrades or have them as event rewards? I'd assume not, since they're probably not as good at encouraging interaction with the C-store (not a criticism, just a thought)

Parasitic Ice - Ground is fun

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 04:02 PM PDT

Probably not the best ground damaging ability, combined with another area hold or slow and the right traits it spreads fast, kind of entertaining to see it jump from target to target.

-kit performance obviously so any traits with that (Creative, Serenity, Technophile)

-Tenavik's council - triggers with the dot

-Field Researcher - +25% damage if you have an area hold or slow on the target

-Agony Modulator - extra dot because of the parasitic Ice hold.

-unconvential gear- if you are running all universal kit modules parasitic ice is also, so constant cooldown reduction, lets you remove Field Technician for something else.

Tip, target the weakest enemy first, it will jump to the rest almost instantly

@BorticusCryptic: What’s the highest amount of Max Hull you’ve managed to get on a starship? Just asking. No reason...>.>

What specialization would you like a (if made) Legendary D'deridex to be?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 05:09 PM PDT

Assuming they make/release a Legendary D'deridex sometime in the future, what specialization do you hope it'll have? If different from the primary specialization, what do you think the secondary specialization should be?

Also, do you think they should actually make it a dreadnought? I remembering hearing that the original concept of the ship had it designed with hangar bays on the interior-ventral portion of the ship, on either side of the bottom connection between the "body" and the "hull." Just curious if I'm alone in thinking that'd be a neat treatment to its revamping.

Have you ever gotten a really insane/high reward for no apparent reason?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 12:40 PM PDT

I was a doing a patrol yesterday(I wont say which one in case its bugged) and when I completed it rewarded over 4k dilithium. I had to do a double take because that was way higher than it should have been. I decided to rerun it on another character and the reward was normal. I was just wondering has this ever happened to anyone else and any idea what causes it?

Some math on the new Mudd's store mega bundle

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 11:27 AM PDT

    • Lockbox ships cost anywhere from 200-250 dollars worth of keys, on average, to pull. They are also single character unlocks that you can't reclaim if you discard them.
    • In total these 7 ships would cost anywhere from 1400, to 1750, dollars worth of keys, if you pulled them from the lockboxes normally, for unreclaimable, single character, ships.
    • This "mega pack" costs 600 dollars at full price, anywhere from 57%-65% off the cost of buying the keys for these ships the normal way.
    • At the 50% off price of 300 dollars that makes it a 78%-82% discount compared to the cost of these ships normally.
    • Mudd's ships are also account unlocks, allowing you to claim them on every character on your account. Which further increases the saving compared to getting these ships normally on multiple characters

All in all, its still very expensive yes, but a massive discount compared to trying to get these ships normally.

This came up on the Redditchats today. Salvaged tech has become below the threshold of being worth farming anymore. This is a shame for many reasons.

My proposal was: 20 salvaged tech converts to 1 ultimate tech upgrade. What do you say, Cryptic?
