Anyone having slow connections issues with the game's launcher?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 07:09 AM PST

Specifically the game's launcher. Patching speed and in-game connection seems fine, but the launcher itself seems to take a really long time to process my login and load all the launcher advertisement media. (>5 minutes of wait)

There's been a lot of focus on what we're all not buying in this sale...so what DID you buy?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 07:03 AM PST

Although I know Reddit is not representative of all STO players, the overwhelming consensus is that most of us aren't touching the 11th anniversary pack. However, the Zen charge bonus, 20% ship/bundle sale and 50% Lobi store sale are spectacular to have regardless, and many of us will likely be making purchases. So what did you pick up this time around?

I finally snagged the Gamma Vanguard Pack for 10,400 Zen (I already owned the starter pack so it was discounted). This gives me the Calm Before The Storm trait on all my characters once I grind it out, a T5U Galor which will be my daily driver on a new Cardassian alt, and the Jem'Hadar Vanguard Carrier which will be my daily driver on a new JH alt, as well as many other goodies including the Jem'Hadar EV suit for my Dominion characters.

I also picked up the Temporal Starter Pack for the T6 Paladin, which will use the T5 Ranger skin I got with the free T5 token a while back. This will set me up for a TOS-era alt. I also picked up 6 -X tokens from the C-Store at 20% off, as well as the Prometheus and Sovereign bridge packs.

Finally, I hit up the Lobi store for themed gear I can't get on the exchange. Picked up the Borg Exoskeleton for a liberated Borg alt, as well as a full set of the arm weapons (BATD Extractor) for his away team. Also finally snagged the Tycoon Tailed Suit for my Ferengi alt.

Overall a really productive day, with my out-of-pocket expenses only being $50 charged for Zen and the rest using saved Lobi and Zen converted from dilithium.

Regarding the current state of the Dominion sub faction.

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 02:34 AM PST

We all know how VIL downgraded the Dominion to being "JUST" the Jem'Hadar due to the devs going for a Jem'Hadar specific story which was promptly reduced to just one season in the rush to throw out Discovery content.

Honestly to me it felt like so much more should have been added, i mean they could have at least enabled aliengen (Easily made viable as the Dominion being so heavily pressured it needs calls it's vassal members for aid with the Hur'q rampaging all over) or given us Vorta.

Wha\t about you guys? Would you care if the single GQ story didn't match your character if you could be something other than a Jem'Hadar? Do you feel it'd be worth it to get more people actually playing purple team given how lacking in customization the sub faction is? Or do you think things are fine is?

Personally i'd have paid if Cryptic gave us Vorta as an cstore race and i can't see any reason not to have aliengen enabled outside of the single seasons plot that's been shoved aside.

    50% Lobi Sale Guide

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 11:18 AM PST

A 50% off Lobi Store sale is a rare event in Star Trek Online; the last one occurring two years ago. For those with some Lobi to spend, there are some worthwhile considerations with the understanding that all Lobi store items are character bound, not account bound:

    Ships

All T6 ships are currently 450 Lobi, down from 900. There are a few standouts with traits that would help certain builds:

    • Xindi-Primate Ateleth Dreadnought Cruiser - Comes with the Superweapon Ingenuity trait which extends the duration of Beam: Overload by 5 seconds. This gives it a permanent uptime, which is a significant increase in damage.

    • NX Escort Refit - Comes with the Preferential Targeting trait, which allows Beam: Fire at Will and Cannon: Scatter Volley to buff Beam: Overload and Cannon: Rapid Fire damage by 100% for 30 seconds (essentially a permanent damage increase). A very solid choice for builds that use either B:O or C:RF, but bear in mind that you need to sacrifice a tactical slot for either B:FAW or C:SV in order to use it.

    • Tholian Iktomi - Comes with the Improved Photonic Officer trait that increases the duration of Photonic Officer and increases Shield Healing, Hull Healing, and Exotic Damage by 25% for 30 seconds. This is a fantastic trait for science ships that use exotic damage (which is pretty much all of them).

    • Maquis Raider - Comes with the Plasma Storm Module console, which creates the large Badlands style plasma plume that acts as a large Gravity Well while dealing a lot of damage. Gives +11 Exotic Particle Generator and +22 Control Expertise. Not essential, but a very nice boost for those who like to pull and trap ships.

    Space Equipment

All space equipment is 100 Lobi, down from 200. The following list is roughly in order from most generally useful to least:

    • Console - Bioneural Infusion Circuits - Passively gives a large amount of crit severity, along with some hull and control boosts. Universal, so it can fit in any console slot.

    • Console - Tachyokinetic Converter - Passively gives both crit chance and crit severity, along with some control and turn rate boosts. Universal, so it can fit in any console slot.

    • Delphic Distortion Torpedo - A very strong addition to torpedo builds such as /u/eph289's Kinetic/Quantum Torpedo Fleet Engle

    • Altamid Modified Swarm Processor - Passively gives crit chance and accuracy. Decent on its own, but really shines in plasma builds when combined with the next two items below.

    • Altamid Modified Plasma Omni - An excellent plasma omnidirectional beam, good for use in Beam: Overload/ Cannon: Rapid Fire builds that use plasma as part of the Altamid set. Plasma is one of the preferred types of energy for B:O / C:RF builds due to the Advanced Piezo weapons' Technical Overload which deals large amounts of electric damage in an area around the target after using one of those abilities.

    • Altamid Modified Kelvin Torpedo - Useful for finishing out the Altamid set, not particularly noteworthy otherwise.

    • Console - Universal - Covert Mine Layer Suite - minelayer builds are very niche, but this is one of the better tools for such things. Passively increases the amount of damage mines will do, and gives them the ability to creep towards targets.

    • Ba'ul Linked Sentry set - Ba'ul weapons were nerfed fairly hard awhile back, but are still one of the better options if you like AP weapons and tanking. The two-piece allows your weapons to chain to an additional target, and the three-piece is a clickable ability which gives you a bonus +50% AP damage.

    Ground Equipment

Most ground weapons are 25 Lobi, down from 50; most armor pieces are 100 Lobi, down from 200.

    • Phaser Full Auto Rifle (Dsc) - one of the strongest ground ranged weapons in the game.

    • Advanced Herald Antiproton Beam Projector - despite looking like a staff, it is actually a ranged weapon. Very popular because its attacks will bounce to additional nearby targets.

    • Boolean Heavy Assault Cannon - another strong weapon.

    • Section 31 Phaser Pistol - useful in group content for the reduced threat it deals, as well as having a 3 second recharge on it's secondary AoE ability (compared to a standard wide beam pistol's 4 seconds).

    • Gambling Device - an excellent buff for ground content, giving +10% Crit Chance and Severity along with 15 Dodge. Note that this is only 15 Lobi, down from 30.

Any chance we will get old lockbox weapon types in the dil store or phoenix box?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 09:38 AM PST

Phased Tetryon, Plasmatic Biomatter or Ba'Ul Antiproton - the exotic weapon flavours being locked to chance boxes (where you can't even choose which one you want IF you get a box) and the older ones effectively dying out on the market there should be an alternate way of obtaining those.

Phoenix boxes or dil store seems like a fair way to purchase Infinity Mark versions we can then upgrade past MK XII ourselves.

    Advice for a returning player

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 08:41 AM PST

Been going through some rough times and finally got my xbox back. So I'm back in the captains chair. Past couple days I got my tac rom fed character up to 65. My current ship is a gagarin miracle worker battle cruiser. I'm currently doing missions in delta quadrant and I'm getting stomped. Not sure how I should be building it or if it's even a good ship, I got it awhile back. I only have 1.7 mil in credit's. I just need some advice on what I should be working on and if I should be trying to use a diff ship. Id appreciate any help.

    Kelvin or Donnie?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 07:24 AM PST

    So, T6 premium.

Both the Kelvin and the Donnie are exceedingly rare ships, and I'll be taking one of them. But which one? Is there anyone who has both and can offer some advice? I think the Donnie is technically "better", but the Kelvin is such a unique fed ship and I've been in love with it ever since 2009 Trek. Both are really pretty. What would you do?

Edit: I don't mean the Konnie. I mean the Einstein class destroyer, aka the U.S.S Kelvin.
