I'm part of the problem, but not sure what to do...

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 04:57 AM PST

    TEH METRICS!

Second thing, after TEH MONEYZ, Cryptic seems to be concerned about these days. We all know all the constant events are there to keep players logging in, chasing after that carrot in the fear of missing out a limited time reward, whatever it might be.

And I'm part of that problem. I keep logging in doing tasks I do not enjoy, instead of playing the game the way I want to. Because at its core, I love STO, despite its issues.

But The Best Served Cold is just too much for me... The TFO is just awful. The amount of downtime is either a cruel joke, or someone at Cryptic really didn't think this through. A few months ago at least there was an alternative of playing Patrols, which I personally would love to see more of. This time however we're forced into a ~15min TFO that's laughably easy, where player performance barely affects anything, and the amount of briefings allows me to do Doffs, Admirality and R&D with tons of free time to spare.

But I still do it, because I want the reward and the Dilithium... Because I know I'll have fun with the Targ and will use the Dilithium for other types of content. Sadly, I'm afraid I'll be burnt out by the end of the event, to the point I won't event want to play the game at all. And yet I still do it, because I'm a sheep...

And Cryptic doesn't care. They don't care they've introduced an awful TFO, that may be fun to play once every now and then, but not daily for nearly a month... They only care that players keep logging in for at least 15 minutes a day. And 15 minutes is better than 10 minutes for teh metrics, so "make those briefings longer!", I bet they say during the meetings...

Same goes with recent ship releases. I admit, I did buy some of the overly expensive bundles. And I'd normally probably buy the Walker as well, but fortunately the ship is not a "must have" by any means, so at least here I've "voted with my wallet" against BS releases. Pitty I can't seem to do the same with the daily logins. Because in this case it doesn't matter in the slightest if I stop, as other people will keep logging in regardless. So all that's left is to complain about how awful the current event is...

tl;dr - just a rant. Best Served Cold event is awful and yet I still do it like a sheep.

The conspiracy theories were true. Starfleet has been taken over by Klingons.

    Does Boff Rarity mean anything?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 08:40 AM PST

I'm working on filling out my Cardassian captain's Boff roster with Cardassians (and one Alien made Lissepian, because canon). As Cardassian Boff recruitment Doff missions are exceedingly rare, the Boffs are still pretty damn expensive on the exchange.

My question is, does the rarity matter? I know they all have decent space traits (not as good as Romulans, but still not bad), so wondering if it's worth shelling out the EC for the Very Rare versions.

    PLEASE Make Fighters Work

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 07:42 PM PST

I don't want a the Klingon version of an assimilated Targ, I want to be able to order my fighters to attack specific targets and kill it while I kill different targets. I don't want new T7 ships, I want to be able to field at least 64 fighters so it can be more realistic (and within balance of course). I don't want T6-X upgrades, I want to be able to give specific orders to console and ship separation pets. I don't want new weapon types, I want to be able to customize my fighters based on what hull modifiers, weapon slot and consoles, abilities, and ships system sets that I prefer.

I know this is unrealistic, but when you have your fighters not even follow you when they are supposed to, I REALLY think there should be at least some love given to fighters, especially when so many ships now have at least one hangar.

I know it's probably not the top priority for devs, with other bugs in the game, but I would really appreciate the phase pistol be a little bit smaller

    New Toon Discussion

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 08:45 AM PST

I only have one toon, but I am finally done with all the reputations and such. I want to start a new Federation toon. My current toon is a current era human Tactical Officer.

What era would offer a different experience than my current century toon?

What class would change my play style vs tactical? I have the legendary ship bundle so was going to use one of those ships on the new toon

Do I have to replay all the same story missions to level up?

Don't want to start a Klingon until they are done with their Klingon improvements.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't have a ton of time to play so I have never started a second toon.

    QoL update ideas

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 02:34 PM PST

Given that we recently got two of the most requested QoL updates filled, what with traits being added to loadouts, and reputation active powers being separated into ground and space, I think its time we make a new list of QoL updates we would like to see.

    My big three are

    • A dedicated EV suit slot, so we don't have to constantly switch back and forth between normal armors and EV suits.
    • Specializations being added to loadouts, and separate ground and space specialization choices.
    • A vanity shield/non-combat pet storage inventory tab, or some sort of reclaim store where you can reclaim any unlocked vanity shield/non-combat pet for free.

Other, more minor(for me) QoL updates I would like

    • An armada mail system.
    • Item deltas to show stat differences between two items.
    • Making all the fleet holdings able to transport you to all other fleet holdings, so you don't have to play hop scotch using the starbase, and going through all those load screens.

I am close to being Commander and searched up the different types of star ships I could get as a Commander, I have multiple options on the ship I want and need help on choosing one.

    Ships of the 32nd Century

    Ships of the 32nd Century

A couple of great views of the new ships from Discovery, including the USS Nog. The wireframes definitely help get a better sense of the various ships. I'd definitely like to see the USS Nog in STO somehow. Via timey-wimey.

From the Star Trek Youtube channel.

Am I bad or is this games balance as bad as I think?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 09:25 PM PST

    I'm rank 65 with a T5 assault cruiser.

My ship has 62k hull HP, 9.5k shield and 20% in all resistances. Every battle I go into is a slugfest, it takes me a few minutes on average to destroy even a frigate.

my best torpedo does roughly 6k damage and my best weapon 800. Most have a DPS of about 600.

Earlier, I encountered a rank 30 ship in a deep space encounter and it's effectiveness seemed equivalent or even superior to mine, but it was hard to tell since it had swarms of fighters.

I'm seeing the average AI, allies and enemies have weapons that do 2k dmg each blast to shields alone. Edit; my max DPS without torpedoes is 2.8k

I am regularly killed in seconds by the AI, normally the kill log thing is like "annoying ship dealt 10k damage with generic weapon"

From what I've gained, my ship is horrendously underpowered but I'm not sure where I messed up. I followed the campaigns but skipped TFOs because I was to lazy to wait around for a queue.

I've got only about a tenth of the zen I need for a tier six so far.

I've also thought that it might be the game though, as I've seen complaints such as "the game killing you when it wants to", etc.

Im assuming I'm mostly responsible for my situation, and that I'm overlooking something important, but I'm still pretty ticked off.

So how do I get myself out of this?

What ship to buy for sci/torp

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 06:48 PM PST

Hi I've just reach level 65 PS4 FED tactical toon and I'm looking for any advice on a ship for science Torpedoes build as I don't want to waste my money experimenting on a ship I might not enjoy i run gravimetric and dark matter torps, currently working on getting the particle emission plasma. I run grav well 2 and DRB with torp spread 2 i am spectd into control and epg with a few tactical buffs

Ideally I would like to find a ship with a commander science and a commander Tactical but from what I see that's just not possible and I will have to make a choice. is an improved gravwell 2 better than a spect out gravwell 3? does it matter? Lol.

I have been eyeballing the cardassian intel for its seating and hull but I'm not interested in its trait the arconian science escort has improved gravwell but less than ideal seating for my liking and less hull any suggestions would be much appreciated.

P.S how does one acquire Subspace Vortex 3 I've seen it on the exchange for 10 million but I don't have the credits

Im fairly new to the game, only been level 65 on my main for a week. Ive been really enjoying my Jem'Hadar Vanguard Carrier and feel like I've got a semi decent build rolling. Im considering using my t6x upgrade on this ship, but dont want to waste it. Any insight would be appreciated!
