    Unable to progress story due to task force operation

    I created a character for star fleet discovery and 4 or so missions in it requires me to complete a defense of star base 1 taskforce operation, the thing inside been sat in ques for over an hour and still javent got into one, it has completely stoped me from progressing, dose anyone know what I can do

    Curiosity question - Could someone explain to me how is this even possible in the PvE "Assault on Terok Nor"? I have rarely seen this in practice but have no clue how a player can get up on the second level during this part of the event. Thanks! :)

    Dear Cryptic,

    We need to have a serious discussion about your story elements. Especially in light of the two most recent episodes and some developer commentary about your characters on twitter and livestreams. There is a growing rift between players and the developers about how players react to certain characters, specifically villains like Sela and J'ula. Now putting aside the naturally present problematic opinions about these characters (which is inevitable with a wide audience), you still generally see the players want to see a character like Sela dead and developers lamenting that players dont connect with a nuanced villain.

    well, I need to say this, YOU CANNOT MAKE A MASS MURDERER OR SOMEONE ENGAGING IN GENOCIDE A SYMPATHETIC OR NUANCED CHARACTER. Period. And presently, you have four of these characters running amok: Sela, J'ula, T'ket, and as of this last update, J'mpok.

    These four have danced right over the moral event horizon. Sela openly engaged in the slaughter of her own people to remain in power and has a habit (twice) of breaking out of prisons. J'Ula has a goal of genocide of the Federation, with the survivors subservient to the Klingon Empire with no chance for peace. T'ket is an axe crazy murderer. And J'mpok has murdered his own people in his own desperate attempt to stay in power (I'm seeing a pattern here).

    If you wanna know why players want these characters dead? Well let me explain: Sela has proven no prison can hold her. If she wants out, she'll get out. And she has exterminated entire planets. She cannot be trusted to be in a peaceful solution. Sorry, you wrote her into that corner. She may be in prison now, but for many of us the question looms: "When will we she decide to break out?"

    T'Ket wants to murder everyone. She's clearly mad and realistically won't go willingly. Yeah at some point we're going to have to kill her. There's no real choice there.

    J'ula, no matter how "sympathetic" you make her, she still wants the destruction of the Federation and its people brought to its knees or killed. No one looks at Hitler and goes "Yeah he killed and oppressed millions, but he also liked the arts and his dog." That does not excuse his crimes or even wanting to listen to his arguments. And its a damn shame because you've not even brought J'ula's arguments to the table. She never discusses them in-game to the player. You get no points for what you don't put in the game. And J'ula could be a fantastic mouthpiece for discussing the expansionist and imperialistic nature of the Federation. Instead she just rambles about how she's gonna kill us and win the war while using a superweapon. -slow clap- Congratulations, you turned who could be a very interesting three dimensional villain into a cartoonish caricature with a doomsday machine. She just needs a white cat to stroke and go "No, Mr. Shon, I expect you to DIE!!!" to finish that.

    And that leaves J'mpok. Out of these four, J'mpok has been the most three dimensional until "The Khitomer Discord". He started this game as THE villain, the guy who killed Martok and went to war with the Federation. But over the last ten years he got further from that. He was the one who wanted to say he wanted the War to end first, before M'Tara cut him off. He was the one who told Klingon characters to go rescue Martok because he deserved to die with honor and not in prison. He grew from being the Bad Guy, to being the guy who was one of our most staunch allies. If that's not a Trek story, I don't know what is. And you've thrown it all away in the last couple of months. Now he's fearful Martok's gonna kill him, and he was always in league with Torg to trick him. You threw away 10 years of character nuance in one mission and one story blog.

    I'm actually fuming at this, because its such a goddamn waste. That last character now falls into the pile of abandoned plots and concepts along with the fate of Vega and whether or not Shon's wife was killed or assimilated; removed popular missions like "The Trouble with Klingons"; and the ever growing focus towards celebrity guest stars over what STO has brought to this universe on its own. And its especially tough because I think we all know where this plot is going. You can't afford to have Martok be chancellor, that would be quite costly in the long run. Same with Adet'pa. J'Ula is still guilty of attempted genocide and mass murder so she can't be chancellor and there's no way to save J'mpok's chancellery now. It's going to end with Klingons finally joining the Federation. We know its supposed to happen in the future. But as a player, that's very unsatisfying. The only other option is to reset the relationship and the Klingons and Feds go back to being enemies like at launch, which no one liked.

    I am seriously troubled by this direction: that were are supposed to sympathize with mass killers, and one of the most complex characters in the game is being turned into one so we can be rid of him. Someone wanna go scan for an ethical inversion field, because this is seriously problematic. Because we're being told to be sympathetic and listen to a genocidal madwoman, while the one thing that would be make her at least somewhat right is the opposite direction of the general direction you're moving the faction she's nominally a part of. And that's not even factoring the in-universe ethnocentrism that ignores that a Klingon, Romulan, or Dominion character would be disinclined to listen (Hell, a Klingon would view giving them an honorable death a "good choice"). There is a serious disconnect here, both ethically, and in good writing.

    To top it off, I find the surprise that players want to choose the violent option very out of touch. Because, and I do mean this as important criticism: YOU HAVEN'T GIVEN US MANY CHOICES TO BE NON-VIOLENT. We've had one time when choosing whether someone lives or dies is an option (Hassan the Undying) that actually matters. Every other time its happened (like the Benthans in Delta Rising) we get a GM fiat where an NPC kills em, or a cutscene where someone else makes the choice to spare or kill that character. Yeah, surprise. You've trained us that the only choice we have is combat and now the player base thinks the only option to get rid of a villain with our own initiative intact is killing them. You can't shit the bed and then complain about the implications of said shit! You put us on the rails of only having a choice of how much DPS we put out. When all you have is a phaser, well, don't be surprised we're gonna phaser.

    I don't have an answer on how to fix this. That's on you. You have left us with, well to be blunt, a clusterfuck of story and political situations with no good way to resolve it that doesn't either (a) undermining your own characters, or (b) good morals and ethical standards w/out being a huge hypocrite. You gotta solve this. And it's on you to think about it.

    First time running the event so I don't wanna burn too much on clothes I don't like, but at the same time, Barbie is the real endgame, so I DO want to get the stuff I do like lol.. The issue is the preview are so tiny you can't make out anything.. especially the shirts..

    MY STO Story + Looking For a Cool Fleet

    Well, I am going to be as brief as possible:

    My story is I have been working at home during lockdown which meant I could put a LOT of time into STO. I started a new Alien Fed character just under 3 months ago, from scratch, no help from alts, absolutely free to play, to see where I could get to.

    Now, just under 3 months later, I have 2bill liquid assets and a lot in the hole. I rarely, if ever, die, certainly never on ground, maybe in Elite TFOs sometimes, but it depends on the team.

    I have just about everything I want in-game except a fleet (and as I say I created all this out of hours of hard work, playing exchange, never ever buying anything with real money). The keys to success are these: i) grind dil to remove the EC cap; ii) grind dil to increase bank / inv slots; iii) grind TFOs/Events you like playing to get marks to make sure you can get to tier 6 reputation within 3 months on every faction; iv) do All the daily reputations, plus daily and universal Endeavors every day and work to get at least 75% of your doffs up to purple and grind all your diffs and admiralty too; v) sometimes, use dil to buy phoenix packs, they are way better than lock boxes and even if you get uncommon you can get Phoenix Upgrades which give you 56000 tech points; vi) LEARN the market, you will make mistakes, but you will easily recover and get better, try and learn the ENTIRE market and play all 40 slots on the exchange until you have about 500M, then create an alt just to play the exchange with the crap that is left over from your 40 slots. I am a FTP billionaire within 3 months because of my market knowledge, nothing else; vii) only bother with missions that grant decent/unique rewards, skip the others and do them later, viii) you do not need a ship any better than the Ferengi D'Kora which shouldn't be more than 15M; with the right gear, you will hardly ever die in this ship, don't waste money or dill or lobi buying T6, open Phoenix packs for dil if you want to get a T6, much better option, ix) similarly, on ground it's all about kits plus a fast-firing weapon, use your exchange skills to source them, then upgrade with the Phoenix upgrades you got from uncommon Phoenix rewards; x) take advantage of the cheap photonic boffs (Nog, Rex, Leck etc) then later use the free boffs like the Science Borg and Nelen Exil, never ever buy a boff and don't buy all the manual, just buy the manuals you need for the correct station loadout.

    OK, so that's a lot of info.

    I mentioned I'm not in a fleet and want to join one where I will not be bothered except when I want to be, where the rates and atmosphere are good, where I can get all the upgrades and supplies I need after never having been in a fleet on this character. I can help you out with whatever you want, I can be very useful. Any takers?

    Created a new Rom toon specifically for the legendary boost, even did the legacy elite starter on it too. The legendary purchase didn't bump me up to 65, probably because I skipped the tutorial. Didn't notice that part when I purchased it. So I started a new character and deleted that one. Can't claim either pack now because can only be done once per account. Ugh! Oh well, at least I got the ship which is by far the most important part of the bundle. But seriously things like this should work as intended without little roadblocks in place such as skipping or not skipping the tutorial. Now I'm out all that zen and the only thing I can claim is the ship. No reman borg sci officer no TNG Rom toon. Nothing! Great job cryptic 🙄

    New Risa kit is even weirder than expected

    So, I just realized that when the Risa kit has a chance of triggering a risa kit module when you use kit modules - it doesn't have to be an equipped kit module. I was running on my science toon, with science risa mods and the ball lightning uni, and it triggered a cyclone generator.

    Just thought folks might enjoy.

    Edit: Also, just for note the ball lightning seems to drop like a mine or trap at your location and not move.

    Ground weapons with guramba? (Dis, AP)

    Hello,

    I keep one ground weapon of each energy type for doing endeavors. I find I am displeased with my current choice of Disruptor and AP weapons. I have a Colony AP split beam rifle and a crafted disruptor sniper rifle. Getting down to the point, they don't look badass enough. Don't care about max DPS, I am interested in killing in style. I wish there were a Holodeck where you could try out weapons, like that one ep of DS9.

    Anyway, what do y'all like to carry?

    Unable to Join any TFOs

    One character on my account who is KDF lvl 65 is now unable to join any TFO as none appear in the list when opening the TFO menu. Additionally I cannot join a rTFO as that is grayed out, and cannot change the difficulty as no options show up in the difficulty drop-down menu. I used to be able to join all TFOs as usual but I don't know when exactly this change happened or what precipitated it. This behavior persists after logouts and shutdowns of STO, and again is only present for one character on my account. I am able to do patrols but no PVP and as far as I can see I'm not in a team or anything that might interfere with TFO joining.
