Endgame Ships Beyond Level 40 - a Quick Write-up Posted: 02 May 2020 12:40 AM PDT One aspect that may seem pay-to-win about STO is ship progression. The free ship that you receive may seem underpowered compared to the variety of snazzy-looking, overpowered monster Tier 6 ships that you see around you. However, for two main reasons, it is definitely possible to get endgame-level performance without spending Zen. First, build matters more than ship. There are resources available here, here and around the STObuilds sub that let you get endgame performance out of lower-level ships. The second reason - and what I want to outline here - is the fact that you can get endgame ships without spending anything. There is actually some degree of ship progression in STO beyond the Level 40 Tier 5 ship you get. It may take a while, but most MMOs have some degree of grind in any case. So, here are some different ways to get "endgame" ships without spending. 1. Level 61 (Tier 5) - V.Adm ship token A relatively new addition is the ship token at this level. There is a guide here on building them. They're basic Tier 5s, and a little lackluster compared to Tier 6, but they'll do the job. 2. Level >50 - Lockbox T5-U. Now, don't go opening lockboxes for these. It is significantly cheaper to buy these off the exchange. Now, the advantage of these is that they are freely upgradable at the starship selector NPC from T5 to T5-U. This grants a couple of Tier 6 advantages to an otherwise Tier 5 ship - Scaling hull (boost to HP depending on level), and starship mastery perks (improved stats depending on ship type). Two are currently available - the Hirogen Hunter Heavy Escort and the Undine Nicor Bio-warship. Both are tactical-heavy, offensively focused ships with the Hunter being a bit more mobile than the Nicor in exchange for losing one weapons slot. Both are good ships, and will serve you well through the grind. As of now, they cost roughly 3-4 million EC each. However, this can be easily earned in a week or two thanks to Tour the Galaxy, Admiralty, Duty officer assignments, and dilithium conversion to zen to buy a Master Key to sell. One Master key sold will give more than enough for one of these ships. While they are slightly inferior to Tier 6, the difference is quite small and they can be built to offer very good performance. 3. Any level - Event Tier 6 At least 3 times a year (Anniversary, Summer Event, Winter Event), Cryptic runs events offering Tier 6 ships in exchange for completing events over a couple of weeks. This usually takes 15 minutes a day or less, and takes the least effort out of these methods. The caveat is that there must be an event running, and you can't miss more than a week of the event. Similarly, Cryptic is also doing multi-event event chains that allow you to pick up a C-Store ship for free - just as if you purchased it with money, meaning it unlocks account-wide. You're usually sunk if you miss more than one sub-event, though. Still, it is a good way to get an account-wide Tier 6 ship without spending a cent. 4. Level >50 - Fleet-Tier 6 These ships can be considered the best you can get without diving into the expensive lockbox/promo box system. Most of them are canon-styled, and there is a huge variety. You can obtain them by joining a fleet with the appropriate level - this varies according to the specific ship. They will cost 20K Fleet credits and 5 Fleet Ship Modules (1 if you have the non-fleet ship in the C-Store, but I digress). "But," you may say, "Fleet Ship Modules cost zen! How can they be free?" The answer to that lies in the reputation system. At Tier 6 reputation level, each reputation grants you one Fleet Ship Module in exchange for 100 marks. Granted, this will take a couple months to get from scratch, but they're essentially endgame-level for free. A few words of caution, though - note that Fleet-Tier 6s will not come with the starship trait or console. Some have built-in special abilities (e.g. https://sto.gamepedia.com/Fleet_Galaxy_Dreadnought_Cruiser_(T6) and https://sto.gamepedia.com/Fleet_Nausicaan_Guramba_Siege_Destroyer ), though. If you do plan on obtaining the C-Store non-fleet version of the ship at some point in the future, it is better to avoid the fleet one until you can get the C-Store version due to the module discount. And if you're not in a fleet, don't despair. Many fleets in STO are fairly low-maintenance. Donate a little here and there, and you don't have to socialize overmuch if you don't want to. You can also request temporary fleet access from fleets through chat channels like NoP Public Service and RedditChat. 5. Any level - External giveaway Tier 6 This one's a bit more obscure. Every 2-3 ship releases, Cryptic conducts giveaways through external sites. They may be first-come-first-serve as at Destructoid, or random as at Trek fansites and MMO sites. You lose nothing in making a throwaway email to toss your hat in the ring. Due to the relatively small playerbase of STO players in the grand scheme of things, and the number of giveaways (usually 6-10 sites) at once, your chances of winning at least one are actually pretty high. So, when a new ship is released to the C-Store, especially in conjunction with a content drop, keep a lookout for these over the following 2-3 days. I personally have obtained 7 C-store ships out of these over the past 2-3 years, so it has been pretty effective. That's all I have for you. I hope this was helpful, and all the best for exploring this game! Addendum: Just something else I thought of. The difference between the ship tiers are as follows: Tier 5: Total 9 console slots, can slot 12 bridge officer abilities in total. Lockbox Tier 5: Total 10 console slots, can slot 12 bridge officer abilities in total. T5-U: +1 console slot over T5 equivalent, starship mastery, scaling hull. Tier 6: Total 10 console slots, can slot 13 bridge officer abilities in total, starship mastery, scaling hull, bridge officer specialization seating. If a C-Store ship has a fleet version, then the C-store ship will have this. Fleet Tier 6: Total 11 console slots, can slot 13 bridge officer abilities in total, starship mastery, scaling hull, bridge officer specialization seating. If a C-Store ship does not have a fleet version, the C-store ship will have this. [link] [comments]

Stealth without cloaking device Posted: 02 May 2020 09:43 AM PDT Is there any point in investing in stealth-enhancing abilities on a ship that doesn't have a cloaking device? Will the increased stats be in vain or does it make the ship less noticed by enemy vessels overall? [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 May 2020 09:00 AM PDT So I seem to have broken the promotion quest on my new characters promotion to captain. I hit level 30 and was in a party with some friends (I'm playing on Xbox currently). I was at 39 Sierra and decided to cash in my new T4 ship token there and then go do "The Vault". Later I returned to ESD to complete the promotion quest and Quinn wants me to go to the shipyard & the vendor npc says "congrats, pick your new ship". But I've already burned the ship token. The quest isn't able to be dropped either. If anyone has any ideas on how to unbreak this quest, I'd really appreciate them. Thank you!! [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 May 2020 08:53 AM PDT Is being able to choose a Cardassian as a starting race no longer a thing? I haven't played in a few years. I got a new PC and downloaded STO and noticed that I no longer had the ability to choose a Cardassian as a starting character. [link] [comments]
Screenshot Locations wiki page, anyone? Posted: 02 May 2020 08:03 AM PDT Ok, so, here's what I'm thinking.

Posted: 02 May 2020 05:16 AM PDT Hi all, I've been play STO since the start (life time subscription) but very intermittently; however as I've reached the endgame I'm finally looking to join a fleet (and to stop those random join requests ). As I don't too play much (out of lockdown!) I probably won't be playing a lot of TFO or other multiplayer missions with the rest of the fleet, but I am happy to contribute to a growing one. UK based if that makes a difference. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2020 01:15 PM PDT I'm most likely preaching to the crowd here as everyone - especially the publishers - know that loot/lockboxes are an excellent way of getting kids hooked to gambling and are a predatory behaviour that masks the real-world cost of virtual assets. Thus far lockboxes have flown under the radar of most governments but we can change that by bringing them to their attention: Remember, the apparent (never officially disclosed) odds put the cost of a Lockbox ship at around the cost of two AAA games; a promotion ship costs the same as a Nintendo Switch. Many thanks to you all for taking the time to read this. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 May 2020 08:11 AM PDT I saw a person will the Borg Ship Shield. I wanted to get it but didn't get a chance to ask them because they left earth spacedock. Where do I get it? Also is it a shield with good stats? [link] [comments]
No Caitian or a Ferasan as new Character? Posted: 02 May 2020 03:36 AM PDT Can't choose/buy/play as Caitian or a Ferasan new Character. Have no option to choose one of these species, Why is that? Did I missed something? Thank you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2020 03:50 PM PDT New player interested in picking up a T6 Jem'Hadar Ship for my fed jem character. I've got an Akira on my main that is all cannons. I'm interested in something that can take a bit more of a beating. My character is tactical. I'm not trying to min/max anything. Just looking more for a fun star trek experience though I want something more than just the little default ship you get. Any recommendations? Thanks all! [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 May 2020 02:14 AM PDT Hi, I've been contemplating buying a tier 6 romulan ship for my tactical character, i'm looking for something with good dps and movement but with some survivability (not a complete glass cannon). For reference my favorite ship is the kdf matha raptor, some people recommended the morrigu but i'd like to see your recommendations [link] [comments]
I'm a little confused about this game right now. Posted: 01 May 2020 05:08 PM PDT I recently got back into the game and my account is a lvl 65 fleet admiral. I lost touch with the game and don't know how to use the currency system, specifically the dilithium exchange and zen. Any ideas/advice? [link] [comments]
How do I interpret the DPS on a plasma piercing beam rifle? How do I compare it to other rifles? Posted: 01 May 2020 10:38 PM PDT My main toon (Fed-Tac) has an UR Mk XV Romulan plasma piercing beam rifle (CrtD)x2(CrtH)(Dmg). But it doesn't list "DPS" as other ground weapons do. It lists plasma damage as 105.7 for the primary attack and 126.8 for the secondary, but no DPS listing for either. How do I compare those numbers to the DPS classifications on other ground weapons? Looking at getting a new escort. Posted: 01 May 2020 09:21 PM PDT But I'm torn. My heart says get the Valiant, and complete the defiant collection and the epic trait, (at least the parts not locked behind $300 paywall), but my head keeps reminding me of it's lack of grav well. The Chimesh has that seating, and a trait that improves grav wells. And of course the Earhart over there with the hangar looks nice too. I can only really afford one at the moment, so what do you guys think I should do? [link] [comments]
Discovery universal endeavors mission failed message on map move Posted: 01 May 2020 05:20 PM PDT Every time I swap toons, move maps or instances it give a "mission complete" and mission failed message on my screen. It's been this way since they added the content for Awakening. I find it so annoying that I refuse to do the discovery universal endeavors until this is fixed. The endeavor box isn't worth the miniscule amount of points it grants for the constant spamming of those two mission messages. [link] [comments] |
