Star Trek Online Anyone else find it super weird that 17 months later we still haven't seen when J'Ula arrived in 2410? Average number of missions released per month

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 01:09 AM PST

There's a piece of analysis going round at the moment which claims that between October 27th 2015 and June 5th 2018 missions released at an average rate of 2.5 months per mission. This comment has received numerous upvotes and been gilded. However, from what I can tell, it is staggeringly incorrect, as it counts the eleven missions that released with AOY as only one mission and counts the seven that released with ViL as only one mission.

Within the same time frame, using the same mission list from the comment but adding in the missions that haven't been included I count 30 missions released in the same period of roughly 31 month and therefore a mission every 1.03 months on average. This is as against (again using the mission list in the original comment) 9 missions in roughly fifteen and a half months which is a mission on average every 1.7 months. This uses the time frame between October 9th and 2015 and January 28 2020, which in itself is a very kind time period as it cuts out the three month content gap at the end of Victory is Life.

Now this may change if Cryptic have a multi-episode expansion up their sleeves, but at the moment, it is fair to say that the rate of mission release has been slowing down.

Disclaimer: I am an English Teacher. Counting is not my strong suit. I am more than happy to edit any missions that I have missed and edit numbers accordingly.

    Text of Original Comment

    Objectively false

Sunrise: October 27, 2015 Stormbound: November 19, 2015(1 month) Time and Tide: January 28, 2016(2 months) The Temporal Front: April 12, 2016(3 moths) Agents of Yesterday: July 6th, 2016(3 months) Echos of Light: October 25, 2016(3 months) Of Signs and Portents: January 26, 2017(3 months) Mirrors and Smoke: April 25, 2017 (3 months) Brushfire: July 18, 2017(3 months) Beyond the Nexus: September 12, 2017(2 months) Melting Pot: October 3, 2017(1 month) Scylla and Charybdis: January 23, 2018(3 months) The Renegade's Regret: April 3, 2018(3 months) Victory is Life: June 5, 2018(2 months) Secrets + Downfall + Disco tutorial: October 9, 2018(4 months) Para Pacem + Illusion of Communication: January 23, 2019(3 months) The Plausibility of the Possible + Impossibility of Reason: May 14, 2019(4 months) Awakening + 5 patrols: September 10, 2019(4 months) The Measure of Morality Part 1 and 2: January 28, 2020(4 months)

Before the Discovery stuff started, we were getting, on average, a new mission every 2.5 months.

Since the Discovery content started, we got 9 new missions, a new tutorial experience, and multiple new patrols, in the course of 16 months. Even discounting the patrols, and new tutorial, that is still an average of a new mission every 1.7 months.

And this is on top of all the new systems + system revamps like the RTFOs, Persaonl Endeavors, the new event system, the new patrol system, scaling T6 ships, and other QoL updates like the fill all button, auto claim admiralty cards, this most recent item stacking update, and all the running events and new TFOs made for some of those events.

Star Trek Online has been getting more content, faster, then at any other point in its history. Saying real content has slowed down is objectively and demonstrably false in every way possible.

Missions from Agents of Yesterday according to wiki

    Agents of Yesterday:

    · "The Taurean Affair"

    · "In the Shadow of Cestus"

    · "Painful Omens"

    · "Return to Babel"

    · "Tangled Webs"

    · "The Battle of Caleb IV

New faction-agnostic missions include the Yesterday's War story arc:

    · "The Core of the Matter"

    · "Vorgon Conclusions"

    · "Terminal Expanse"

Two new faction-agnostic missions were also added to the Future Proof story arc:

    · "Temporal Reckoning"

    · "Ragnarok"

Missions from Victory is Life according to wiki

    · Jem'Hadar Tutorial Missions (Note: I think it is fair to include these as the equivalent of one mission as unlike the Discovery tutorial, they are fresh content and not a reskin.)

    · "Storm Clouds Gather"

    · "Armistice"

    · "The Search"

    · "Doomed to Repeat"

    · "Quark's Lucky Seven"

    · "Tenebris Torquent"

    · "Home" (Note: I am aware this was released a month later, but similarly to the others, it was not counted in the original comment as a mission release.)

Wishfully thinking about new barbie options

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 08:47 AM PST

So I was mulling it over and I found that while some of the new ship modules in the game look absolutely fantastic, uniforms haven't gotten a lot of love lately. Pretty much every screen uniform - barring maybe the TOS uniforms - definitely look aged, and we've been stuck with the same selection for years except for the little new promo items like the Picard uniform or Kelvin Admiral.

So I got to thinking, since space barbie is the true endgame of STO, it might be time for a new wave of outfits to hit alongside whatever ships they released.

Giving each major faction some C-store outfits and putting some minor faction outfits in the lobi store could be the way to go.

For the C-Store, I'd pitch something like this:

For the Romulans, give them the DS9/VOY slimmed down uniforms and then the Nemesis uniform to give something screen accurate post-TNG. I've tried to outfit kitbash these looks many times but with no success.

For the Klingons, Ambassador Gorkon's costume and General Chang's costume would be the obvious choices.

And finally for the Feds, the unused concept for Star Trek Generations, which actually doesn't look half bad in the flesh with a kind of mixture between the later TNG uniforms and the All Good Things/Endgame look I think it pretty neat. Also, you could throw in the TNG Dress Uniform longcoats for good measure.

Other uniforms could be thrown into the lobi store, such as the first Cardassian outfit we see on screen, which looks like the prop department had a leather sofa for visual reference but still had charm to it. Hazari outfits look almost like light armor, with what almost looks like some kind of lamellar armor on the stomach and sleeves, and plus they're already modeled in-game. For gigs and shittles you could also add the Plato's Stepchildren toga party starter kit too.

Anyways, those are just my pitches. I don't actually expect to see this happen, it's just speculation and wishful thinking because I want my captains to look as good as their ships.

And just for fun, what other uniforms do you think would fit better/be good to implement alaongside?

(Nsfw tried not to swear and failed) Well that's clearly broken. But sure, daily dilithium obviously needed attention over anything else impacting the game.

When are they going to fix saucer separations?

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 09:30 AM PST

As the title says saucer separations are broken on xbox, they separate just fine but recalling them almost never works. I remember from when I played on pc no matter what you could recall the saucer section whenever you wanted. But on xbox one you have to spam the button to recall it and you could be spamming it for literally minutes straight and nothing happens, this is particularly infuriating for any separation gimmick that reduces your hull which is a lot of them or if your saucer section dies you're double screwed because not only are you stuck flying around with less hull but the support given by the saucer is no longer there. This is limited to just saucers either the aero shuttles from the pathfinder long range science vessel and elachi subspace transceiver from the elachi ornash have this same problem as I suspect any ship with this mechanic does as well. I've been playing since june 2019 on xbox and it's still an issue that as far as I've seen hasn't even been addressed by the devs.

A new player - where do i start?

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 09:04 AM PST

Played the game when it originally came out all those years ago but at the time, i was also heavily invested into wow so never really had the time to play both. Looking to play again and will be on a f2p account as i lost access to my original and i couldnt remember the login details anyway.

So where do i start? is there a basic guide or plan i can follow? Is there a google doc or something that will tell me what to focus on and what direction to take? Not looking to be spoon fed but at the same time, i dont wish to waste time - being efficient in games is fun for me and a massive pre requisite going in.

Game looks a lot more complicated that it did before and theres so much information and things thrown at me, that as a new player, its quite disconcerting.

Any help would be massively appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Legacy Pack Sales and Keep Lincoln Alive!

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 08:41 AM PST

With the tenth anniversary on the way out, and my pay-day this next week prior to the disappearance of the Legacy Ship Pack, I had two hopes:

    1) For a Zen and Legacy Pack last ditch sale. Doesn't have to be the 35% sale they had, but a 25-30% to boost their Q1 numbers and give them a solid start to March would be nice (for my wallet and their pocket-books too).

    2) With a lot (all?) of the previous anniversary missions, the beautiful time, work and storytelling that these Devs put in almost always disappears like a foundry mission pre-2019 (too soon?). Could we please keep this year's two-parter preserved for years to come by keeping it the episode lists to replay? Maybe it could be a ten year veteran / Lifer perk. Maybe all anniversary events (and their rewards) could be a Lifer perk! Wouldn't mind replaying the Utopia Planetia mission to test out the Odyssey. Cool map too.

Enough dreaming for me, but after seeing how the Legendary Ship Pack is being positively received, I'm liking the idea of getting in on the action.

Request: Romulan, Cardassian hairstyles for aliengen

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 02:14 PM PST

I'd love to see some of the species-specific hairstyles made available for "alien" characters. I know I've made "Romulan" and "Cardassian" aliens long before those species became available to players. It would be nice to be able to make them more authentic.

More options are always good, and these hairstyles already exist in the game. Hopefully it wouldn't require a lot of developer effort to add them to aliengen.

    Content Drought

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 12:17 PM PST

So it seems this game is become more and more like a garage for fancy space ships, but a garage with only a single very linear race track to use them on. Nothing meaningful has been released, nothing that really adds longevity to an end game that's dominated by DPS chasing.

This isn't meant as a rant, or a blatant attack, it's just a feeling that without these gambling based ship releases we'd have a better game.

In a short space of time we've had a huge bundle of ship, the infinity box return, the current lockbox, and now an R&D promotion ship. So many ships in such a short space of time, all very expensive, but nothing to use them in save for levelling them up in the same TFO's over and over.

It's a huge shame, the new S31 Drone ship has some very cool features but 99.9% of the player base will likely never get to fly it.

The sooner governments ban "loot boxes" the sooner games like this can actually use their talents to make interesting and engaging gameplay features rather than relying on cheap gambling mechanics to make a quick buck.

I want this game to thrive, I still playing a lot and have bought many a ship, usually from the exchange, but my enjoyment is constantly being trumped by anger every time they release yet another promo ship locked behind gambling.

It's old, it's sad, and it reeks of a Ferengi scam.

    I'm done with this game. Here's a M'Chala / Shran giveaway.

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 10:46 AM PST

EDIT: And the winner is u/FXOAuRora!

In light of the intensely boring, money-grubbing nature of the game in its current state, I'm out.

I have one code I never ended up using from the Groupees pack for the Shran and M'Chala bundle. If you can prove you don't own any Zen-store ship, either via screenshot or whatever, I'll give it to you.

EDIT: I forgot about the free t6 Event tokens. Amending the thing: if you can show me that you own fewer than three Zen ships, I'll give this code to you.
