    Iconian War arc

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 01:47 AM PDT

So I'm a relatively new person to STO, and idk if I may sound too naive or stupid, but was someone else also blown away by the iconian War arc, especially from the perspective of a romulan character. Like the destruction of Romulus, Tal Shiar, Elachi, New Romulus, then the whole solanae Dyson sphere, the entire delta quadrant war and then the final iconian War, like all of it was so vast, kinda had me amazed about it.

Clarification regarding Sony/MS cuts of Zen sales.

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 06:23 AM PDT

I just wanted to clarify how Sony and MS make money off STO,

On Console we buy Zen from the PSStore or MS Store, which is then used to buy what you need from the CStore.

This initial purchase of Zen is where Sony and MS make their cut, they cannot make anymore from the purchases you use this Zen to make. As there is no further investment of cash when you purchase from the CStore. You cannot buy any bundles/ships/add ons outright without first purchasing the Zen from the PSStore/MS Store.

So the price increase or discount reduction we are seeing on the new D7 bundle can not be attributed to Sony/MS. They make nothing from items bought from the CStore. They can only get a cut from the initial Zen purchase.

I think it is important to clear this up as the discount reduction from 50% to 35% has been attributed to Sony/MS getting their cut, which is completely false.

The reduction in the discount is squarely on Cryptic wanting to squeeze and extra few bucks out of the console population.

edit to everyone down voting, please provide a rebuttal and maybe you can change my mind?

edit2 I give up, people clearly just want to white knight for cryptic, I'll finish with this, if the situation was reversed and console got a larger discount on something, PC players would be up in arms.

Edit3 apparently I have now been banned from this sub for 7days, lovely, thanks all, so long and thanks for all the fish - I am done with this sub and more than likely this game.

    My printed ship finally arrived!

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 05:16 AM PDT

    My printed ship finally arrived!

It's been nearly a month but she's came in the mail!

I've gotta say, I am beyond impressed. It's just the 4" model but the lines are precise and you can ALMOST read the registry number and ship name on the other spot they appear on the ship (back bumper region, both nacelle pylon and on the back of the mission pod). It even has the cutouts for the windows on the underside of the saucer!

Easily worth the $35ish I spent on it, gonna save up and get this ship and a few others printed up in the larger formats later this year.

Behold! NCC-92516, U.S.S. Vera Rubin! Sutherland class Advanced Research Vessel (T6-X) with the Khitomer Alliance Vanity Shield.

(EDIT: Finally got the image to post)

Concerning the 35% discount for console players versus the 50% for PC

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 09:11 AM PDT

I've seen a lot of speculation about this as to it must be that MS and Sony charge too much and therefore Cryptic just now feels the need to adjust

So with that, a couple of points

    1. We don't actually know that and this is pure conjecture
    2. if this is the case, why not reprice the entire Cstore to reflect this?
    3. Remember that it is Cryptic that has set the price expectation of these iconic legendary ships to be sold in a bundle for at least $60 (Gal X excluded, but it's also available as a t6 via the Cstore).
    4. while this is my conjecture obviously, it is also entirely possible that their Anniversary pack was sub par this year and did not garner enough sales, but that they saw the uptick in sales of the D7 bundle on PC and decided to up the price on consoles.
    5. you're probably better off waiting as if you buy now, then you allow Cryptic to set this new pricing standard. If very few people buy, it will behoove Cryptic to rethink their pricing strategy AND if it already moved well on PC, then we need not worry about Cryptic mistaking it for a lack of interest in Klingon ships

    Billing Issue

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 07:22 AM PDT

    Back Story in a nutshell-
I tried to buy some ZEN on 4/23 and after I put my credit card info in and clicked Purchase I got an error message. I did it again and I got the same error. I checked my bank account the next morning and I got charged from PWE for the transactions but all I got was an error.

I opened a ticket with support and they can't find it (what year are we living in with PCI compliance?) and they suggested I call my bank - which if they could reverse the charges it will cost me per charge and there will be red-tape so I'm trying to avoid that.

What are my options - basically PWE stole money from me.

    Diplomatic missions / path

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 09:29 AM PDT

    Hi All,

New player (still in tutorial). I looked on the wiki and noticed it said diplomatic missions had been removed and there were some restrictions. Is it still possible to move up the diplomatic path to become an envoy or ambassador? I want to create a less technical and more humanities (I was an anthro major, and worked at the psychology consciousness lab a while) focused character.

    I appreciate any advice.

    How do you launch STO?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 03:51 AM PDT

Given some of the issues reported recently on this subreddit about launching STO, I was curious as to which method people prefer to use.

Jem'Hadar Vanguard Support Carrier - Great ship!

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 12:55 AM PDT

    Upgrade Weekend on Console!!!!! WooHoo!

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 09:55 AM PDT

PC got the Klingon Legendary Bundle discounted 50%. Console gets it discounted 35%. What gives?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 11:08 AM PDT

If I purchase the Enterprise Era Pack, does the ship have the refit as a variant? I do not want the NX as is, but would like the Refit that has the additional hull area more like the Constitution Class. If not, how can I get the Refit?

    Amarie Smuggler’s Heavy Escort

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 08:39 AM PDT

I have been reading and watching videos trying to decide which ship to get for Event III. As an award, well this ship has caught my eye. Mainly because I could walk around the whole ship - RPG thing.

But how is the ship in game? My play style is solo and PUG TFO, I do belong to a Fleet.

But because of life, I solo a lot! I mainly play KDF and this would become my main new ship - he is a DiscoKlingon Science. Thanks for any help

Anyone else have problems with ARC launcher crashing lately?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 10:00 PM PDT

On PC, open the game launcher and click Engage. Black screen, and nothing. The Cryptic logo never loads, and task manager will show the game client using 0% CPU. Use task manager to kill the program and the retry is almost always successful.

Past month (maybe less) this happens with increasing regularity. Just me or anyone else? If it's just me, I'll look closer at what my system is doing.

EDIT: Cryptic launcher, not ARC. Sorry, I didn't realize they weren't the same.

My Caitian in the Wrath of Khan uniform has no tail, and I cannot get it to show? Any advice?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 03:08 PM PDT

The OPTIONS for tail length and thickness are there, but it's just not showing. Is this a known issue, or just something I did in error?

Bought a pack yesterday and accidentally deleted it today. Is there any way to get it back with spending zen again??

How Do You Play as a Vulcan Character and Why?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 06:14 PM PDT

I have yet to do the TOS origin so that will be my next character and Vulcan will likely be my choice. I am wondering how people play as their Vulcans. What career route? What ships do they fly? I know species and their traits aren't incredibly important for gameplay but I am just curious. Would love to hear how you play and discuss for inspiration!

Invested in Gamma Vanguard Expansion Pack -- questions about claim mechanics

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 04:02 PM PDT

    What I did

I woke up Monday of this week and realized that the 20% ship bundle sale was about to end. I panicked and bought Zen to purchase the Gamma Vanguard Expansion Pack. I rationalized it as follows:

    • I need a good reason to screw up my budget this month. Let's buy video game money.
    • Everyone seems to recommend the pack as a good Zen investment for some of the ship traits and having a lot of T6 ship choice in a single pack.
    • I've been wanting to create a Jem'Hadar character, and it looks like Cardassian characters could also be Delta recruits with one of the valid factions.

And so I bought the pack on my Romulan toon and went to work.

    What happened

When I got back from work and logged in the Romulan toon, I did my usual -- clear out admiralty, duty officer assignments and reputation. In the process, I saw the following:

    • Neat-o -- I have 3 T6 admiralty cards now for the Cardassian ships!
    • Uh-oh -- Why is the Jem'hadar Vanguard environmental suit in her inventory? I didn't claim it yet!
    • Hmmm -- Do titles go on my account or a specific toon? Where do I even find them?

I proceeded to check my two KDF toons (one is a KDF event recruit), my Delta recruit (Fed), and my Discovery-Fed toon.

    • Neat-o -- I have 3 T6 admiralty cards yada yada yada!
    • Hmmm -- Why did the Romulan get the environmental suit but not the other toons?

    Questions about claiming things

At this point, I was satisfied that nothing else weird or inconsistent had happened.

I went to the C-store read through the details of the pack again. I also looked through the individual store tabs to see what changed. Here are my questions, from the perspective of a lonely Klingon alt who is wondering why he's being goaded to visit the Gamma Quadrant Home Depot and "buy supplies."

    • Expan. Packs - What happens when I click the Claim button? It's active, but Peter Griffin clicked a button on the wall and a sensei bowed to him and kicked him in the groin.
    • Ships - The Cardassian T6 and T5 ships appear to be claimable -- no warnings -- are they treated as cross faction since I have L65 toons for Fed and Klingon?
    • Ships - The Jem'Hadar T6 ships aren't claimable, as expected -- I have to get mastery to 6 on each with a Jem'Hadar toon, if I read the expansion pack correctly.
    • Items - The guidelines for the XP boost and tech upgrades are straightforward -- can they be split among multiple characters or do they bind on claim?
    • Items - The Jem'Hadar EV suit is still 500Z or so. Making me think that it got auto-chucked into my Romulan toon's inventory and character bound. Yea or nay?

The expansion pack looks awesome -- lots to play with and learn. But -- man -- it's daunting figuring out where all the bits and pieces go for a newcomer to such a large purchase in the C-store.

Thanks in advance for any guidance on this!

    Server issues?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 01:55 PM PDT

Anyone else having problems with the STO servers today? I can't seem to stay connected for more than 20-30 seconds before I get the "server not responding" message, which then results in me getting the boot about 75% of the time. I don't seem to be having problems with my Internet connection anywhere else - just in STO...
