Time for Cryptic to reexamine the blocked word/name list?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 05:49 AM PST

After Christopher Plummer's recent passing, I wanted to name one of my Klingon ships with a Star Trek VI theme, and tried the IKS Gorkon, IKS Azetbur, and IKS Chang. All names were blocked. Meanwhile, I can make a USS Kirk, IKS Koloth and IKS Kahless with no issues. Is there any rhyme or reason to which names are blocked and whether this list will be updated?

Stop with the SAD fud. It is still a very solid trait. One broken interaction was fixed.

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 09:13 AM PST

    SAD = Superior Area Denial

Today's patch fixed the interaction the SAD trait had with pets using "Pulse Cannons".

Resolved an issue that was causing NPC ships using "Pulse Cannon" weaponry to deal abnormally large amounts of damage when under the effects of Cannon Scatter Volley (all ranks).

Yes, the damage from them was very nice. But it was a known issue for months, and the trait is still very good. Post-fix, they're still doing nearly 25-30k per hangar bay with blue quality To'Duj Squadrons.

Outside of the damage, this trait still applies a very potent Debuff, and still helps out non-pulse cannon pets as much as it did before the fix.

So stop FUD'ing and play the game. Your builds will still do more than enough damage to do pretty much any content in the game.

Also, the SCM tables were wiped alongside this patch. So if you're worried about your DPS record, go out and get new ISA/ISE/HSE parses in. Every old SAD and non-SAD record is gone. Go set new records, you may be surprised how well you still do even with this SAD fix out.

The Boreth monks are schemers and in league with the Fekh'Ihri

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 04:02 AM PST

We know that the Dominion created the Fekh'Ihri but lost control over them. They were quite active on the Klingon homeworld, until Khaless exterminated/banished them. Yet they reappear in a critical moment when the Klingon great houses were about to fracture. The fight against them seemed to unify the Klingon Empire at least for a while. Then J'Ula and Aakan reappear and suddenly the Fekh'Ihri make a reappearance as well. In a 'vision' quest J'Ula is made the chosen heroi n a journey to Grethor, battling the Fek'Ihri and bringing the 'soul' of a long deceased leader of the Klingons back.

It is all a bit too convenient, leaving the mystery aside Fekh'Ihri are an artificially engineered race and their appearance when the monks need them, suggest a connection. The monks also have lots of experience with cloning, Khaless was a clone created by the monk, the new Klingon matrarch is a clone as well.

My theory is that the monks are the schemers behind the throne/council of the Klingon Empire for a long time. It is all grand strategy to remove J'mpok as a leader and install another clone as a leader. The monks learned from their previous mistakes and added a layer of mystery to the clone they created. The journey to Grethor is just a holodeck illusion, probably enhanced by drugs. The same goes for the totally ridiculous cloning process of placing a body in a shaft filled with lava.

Ten Forward Weekly 03.03.2021: The Janeway Class

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 07:06 PM PST

    Links: Twitch, Facebook [1:02]

    Topic: The Janeway Class

Guests: ship artist Donny Versiga and systems designer Jeremy Randall

Reddit really didn't want to let me do anything, for some reason. I see new things now. Was there an update?

    • This time Cryptic received models from CBS right at the beginning of the season, way before ships appeared in episodes.
    • It's technically much easier to mount floating parts to the ship, because you don't have to align all "bones" with similar level of meticulousness to make them look proper and you don't need to worry about materials' clash.
    • Janeway class is STO name, because original 32c name was... Intrepid class. Cryptic was troubled by same names, CBS was fine with the change.
    • They don't plan to explain how Janeway class got here.
      • This ship is more for STO's "theme park" part.
    • Westin made it so that ship parts would wobble independently. Cryptic weren't sure if that happened originally, but decided to do it like that anyway.
    • Notable art moment was lack of impulse engines. After some contemplations they decided not to do anything about it.
    • You can't tell from the show, but CBS added a lot of details to 32c ships.
      • When Jeremy looked at models themselves, he discovered that there's a design consistency that couldn't be seen on screen.
    • Ship works (and rather well) with regular Starfleet hull materials.
    • Ship comes with a standard bridge.
      • It'll probably be a while before new bridge comes out.
    • Mike's headcanon - detached ship parts of 32c ships are made using iconian tech knowlege.
    • There's no canonical information or CBS' comments as to why 32c ships look so differently from other, particularly Wells.
    • Janeway class has a (visually) unique battle cloak.
      • It's also cloaks slightly faster then regular, but that may become new norm later.
    • No, CBS didn't sent Cryptic sounds, so audio team had to approximate one themselves.
    • 32c ships' hull values are going to have higher than average for the class. Lore reason - programmable matter kind of space magic.
    • Ship's geometry was too different, including the Janeway class being just bigger, so parts aren't going to be kitbashable with Intrepids.
    • We never actually saw Jayneway class go to warp, and one shot it was at warp already nacelles seemed to be still detached, so they decided to go for classical Intrepid moves with nacelles remaining detached.
      • Discovery's nacelles attached for the jumps, but those jumps were black alert ones, so team decided that it's ship peculiarity.
    • "Photonic cannon" console isn't locked to the ship, but deliberately given sci lean with its passives because of ships of its origin and game introduction.
    • Mike and Jeremy loved pakled dreadnoughts.
    • They're still figuring what CBS expects from Cryptic regarding Lower Decks.
    • They decided to tie in trait with the cloak because canonical fed ship with cloak as standard equipment is a big thing and Janeway class is a first representative.
    • They did think about what they can do about 32c-connected stories (obviously including contemplation about altstart), but decided that as of yet they know way too little about that time period.
    • Janeway class is a command spec, so Jeremy used that as a reason to allocate time to look at it and buff command abilities (mostly straight numerical buffs, particularly to CD times).
      • Some powers got quick updates now, but would still be reworked later.

He also wanted to do a PS4 stream, but technical issues happened; usually he sets stream in advance so that he could fix those, but this time it was impossible because he had to stream on PC first.

For some reason, Twitch gave me a lot more troubles during the rewatch, then during stream proper (that was laggy as hell as is).

KDF Version of the EMH in Mudd’s

Dear devs, please figure out a way to get more use out of your environment work (and my suggestion how)

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 03:46 PM PST

I am replaying the mission 'Mirrors and Smoke' and can't believe how awesome the city/ground map is. I played it when it first came out, but had completely forgotten about it.

And that's the problem: I'm sure a huge amount of work went into that map, and simply having people play through it once is a waste, IMO.

My suggestion: take ground maps like this and turn them into some kind of ground version of patrols. Any simple story will do (like 'protect the city from invaders' and have a random type of enemy attacking each time). Whatever. The point is, please figure out a way to get more use out of your environment work.

Looks like another thing that slipped through early on the console builds.

    Free T6 Ship?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 10:23 AM PST

Hi Everyone so after returning to sto and leveling I have finally reached level 60 and have become a fleet admiral and correct me if I'm wrong I would be able to get a new ship at level 61 so would that be a regular t5 or a t6? If it's a t5 how do I get a free t6? Also what's the largest federation t6 ship I can get with a experimental and dual weapons slot?
