ESD Zone Chat - seems to have improved?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 07:02 AM PST

Anyone notice...It's not as bad as it used to be? Had to check in the mirror to make sure I hadn't turned in to a troll or something. I haven't had to minimize chat to avoid wildly unpleasant political discussion in quite some time. Maybe chat moderation has picked up the slack lately?

    Is Cryptic/STO ran by dragons?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 08:15 AM PST

I've played the game since beta/launch. I love it for the most part. I can't say how much I've really invested in time, energy, and money into the game. Sure there are minor things that I think should change and some things that should be brought back. I've done giveaways in the past because I love the community. And generally, I've never really complained but I finally have to at least say something. I'm sure it'll fall on deaf ears but I have to ask, are dragons in charge?

    Here is what I mean...
The legendary ships. I get bundles, some people really, REALLY, enjoy buying all the ships. I get that and have no problem with it, but for some who:
    A. Don't want all the ships
    B. Can't afford to pay $180+
This seems rather unfair. However, if someone can afford to pay $30-50 for a ship they want, I think the legendary ships should be sold separately. Or at the least, in a small pack like the Legendary Walker ship was. $65 was a little high, but much more doable than $180+. Taking the anniversary bundle, maybe I don't want the Vorcha or the Excelsior, but I want the others; can I do that? No.
Cryptic/STO lately only seems interested in selling absurdly priced bundles of ships, but not selling any of them individually, not only forsaking MORE revenue from people who could buy them individually, but also their player base. Sure, its a F2P game, but people are going to tend to buy at least something at some point. Just seems that all they want is money anymore, and only in HUGE sums, not to support their players and make it fun while keeping things affordable.

You can keep the legendary ships on a limited time basis, but sell them in smaller packs or individually.
Please stop being dragons and trying to hoard all the gold.
Or rather, if you're going to be, at least be good dragons and try to get every coin, but if that's the case, sell stuff individually so every player can partake.

Anyways, my rant is over. Thanks everyone. LLAP

    Fleet and reputation equipment

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 07:26 AM PST

    Hi all,

I am getting increasingly confused regarding fleet, reputation and quest gear and keep reading conflicting information. Please correct me if I go wrong here.

I understand the place of fleet consoles versus reputation/quest consoles so don't really have any concerns there.

My main confusion is around the 4 ship parts and weapons.

As I understand it, on the whole, fleet ship parts are superior but lack the set bonuses associated with reputation and quest parts?

If this is accurate, is it best to try to aim for fleet parts, rep/quest parts or a combination of the two?

Regarding weapons, is it best to stock up on fleet weapons and weave in some reputation set weapons?

Contrary to how this post looks, I'm far from a min/maxer. I just don't want to spend all my time farming that rep set only to find I could have just bought 4 superior fleet parts.

    Thanks in advance.

Any Possible Story Arc, Related to the Delta Quadrant Humans?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2021 10:32 PM PST

How about a story arc with the Delta Quadrant humans, seen in Voyager Episode "The 37s?"

From the ashes of destroyed civilizations of Briori, Delta Quadrant Humans created a Commonwealth of Mankind, extremely powerful, militaristic, technologically extremely advanced, mildly Xenophile, wanted to annex other species into their own empire, like Romans, nearly wiped out the Voth, seen from the Dyson Reputation Story.

    Ships;

    1. Stellaris style "Jump Drive" and high sublight impulse engine.

    2. 3 classes of ships. Small Frigates, medium Battlecruisers and large Ironclad style slow dreadnoughts.

    3. Naming would be Roman Legionnaire rank style, like "Principe, Hastati and Triarii."

    Armaments;

    1. (Don't know if possible). mass driver based dual heavy cannons or if it breaks the lore, then Antiproton weapons.

    2. At least one class of ship will have temporal abilities like Heisenberg Amplifier I and Channeled Deconstruction II.

    3. Quantum torpedo, that does small radiation damage over time.

    Tactics;

    1. Can use miniature jump like elachi, but small Frigates always jump behind the player and use Channelled Deconstruction II and other bigger ships will try to hold the player with tractor beam.

    2. Have huge Broadsiding damage buff, so player must avoid being in its broadside.

    3. Small Frigates can use Hazard Emitters to heal bigger ships.

Their empire will begin to expand right after the Hur'q invasion and during the Klingon Civil War period. The player's faction must broker peace with the Delta Quadrant Humans and other species of the Delta-Gamma border.

    Starfleet Uniforms

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 06:11 AM PST

Starfleet likes to change its uniforms pretty regularly. You've got the Kelvin unis, the Disco unis, the TOS pilot unis, the TOS unis, the Motion Picture unis, WoK unis, TNG S1 unis, TNG unis, DS9 unis, First Contact unis, LD unis, flashback Picard unis, Picard unis. And of course the Sierra/Jupiter/Oddy unis.

So basically every 5-10 years, Starfleet comes up with a new uniform.

    And yet...

Are we to believe that they kept the monster maroons from the 2280s to the 2350s? That four Enterprises all wore the same uniform?

Since the Narendra class is quite possibly the best looking ship ever, I've decided the 2340s should have its own uniform. But what type? Something TOS/TNG-like with the shirt being the division colour? Or more DS9/Picard-like with the shoulders being the division colour?

Finally replayed the two new J'ula missions...

    Posted: 01 Mar 2021 09:11 PM PST

So finally tamped down the PTSD from the first playthrough enough to run Leap of Faith and Knowledge is Power on an alt. I will confess my original opinions have shifted a bit on the second playthrough.

Knowledge is Power - This is actually WORSE on a subsequent playthrough. Once you've gotten over the shock anger and annoyance at being forced to play as J'ula, you can start to look at the mission more objectively. And objectively, aside from the stunning scenery (bravo art department) It Sucks. The Mission is an hour long slog that is dull as dirt. As you pretty much have to kill hundreds of Klingons individually with J'ula's limited abilities. plink plink plink. On and On and On. There is nothing redeeming about this mission save the fact that it eventually ends. Above and beyond the incomprehensible and stupid Klingon Game of Thrones shit, it feels and plays like the worlds worst World of Warcraft mission. It's not fun gameplay. Especially not in one sitting.

Leap of Faith - On this one, my opinion has actually swung around 180 degrees. Once you get past your complete loathing of J'ula and anything to do with her, this is actually a pretty fun bit of lunacy. And quite entertaining on a replay. And I accidentally found the way to turn it from a standard STO murder spree into something epic. Say Hello To My Little Friend https://sto.gamepedia.com/Zefram_Cochrane_Shotgun "This Is Mah BOOMSTICK!" I swear if Cryptic would simply hand you this weapon as you enter Grethor, all would be forgiven. It's use should be a mission requirement.

edit to correct my mission name stupidity

As the title says, It's a little illogical I can cast it on as many people as I want and give them the sector space speed buff but not use it on myself ? Come on.... pretty please with cherries on top :P

    Question about reputations

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:58 AM PST

Hey there. So i've been playing on and off ever since the game was first released, but never really got "into it". A bunch of my online buddies and I started playing again at the release of the KDF Recruit event so i'm making an effort to sort out reputations.

I've checked around various sources for Reputation info and would just like some clarification on my understanding of it.

Get to reputation Tier 5 to automatically unlock account wide rep sponsorship, doubling rep gains.
Get to reputation Tier 6 to automatically unlock account wide discounts for that rep.
Grind all reps to Tier 5 on one character before doing them on others.

    Is this correct?
