It's actually amazing how much powerful stuff is available to new and f2p players. Way more than when I started out 6 years ago. The problem is that the game doesn't do anything to teach people about how to play it, and players are unwilling to engage with the systems.

Between fleets, reputations, endeavors, mission rewards, and permanent Phoenix boxes, there is so much powerful stuff available it's silly. You can even get 2 free fleet ships if you stick with the rep system to tier 6, and you should because those rank 2 traits are very powerful. And 3 event ships. And the occasional c-store token.

I get it, people don't want to kill 60 gorn on Nimbus, or do their admiralty, or farm marks, or give dilithium to their fleet to get credits, etc., but if you put the effort in, which for me has been about 2 hours a day a handful of days a week, you will quickly find yourself with everything you need to breeze through advanced content, and even be the person carrying other people.

The idea that you have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to unlock special ships, traits, consoles, whatever, is not only wrong but perpetuating it is actually harmful, because someone is going to listen to it, spend some money, not improve at all, and then get frustrated and quit.

Fixing a bad build will only go so far if you have nothing to work with. You have to actually play the game and engage with its systems. There is no free lunch, or even a paid lunch. You can't buy your way to endeavor points or rep tiers.

Everything is there for you IF you put in the effort. If you are tired of never doing any damage, struggling with missions on normal, and hoping to get carried in tfos, then start playing the game and taking advantage of the wealth available to you.

    I cant believe it!

Cryptic, please make the lockbox Vanity Shields Bound to Account...

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 12:26 AM PST

The Lockbox Vanity Shields are literally hidden behind TWO gambling packs. First being the lockboxes themselves, second being specific weapon packs that come randomly from lockboxes. And the chances of getting either aren't high.

The Vanity shields are great for the most part, but so rare they reach very high prices on the exchange. Ok, I could live with that, but I simply cannot understand why the shields cannot be made Bound to Account instead of Bound to Character...

I've just bought the Section 31 shields for nearly 300kk with hopes of making my Veteran Heavy Destroyer look cool. And honestly, I'm disappointed. I thought it looked better in ZEFilms video in the Dyson Sphere, but normally it's just mostly black, and the shield makes some other parts like the engines completely black as well.

I'm not saying it's a bad shield, because it's great, but for my particular ship it just didn't work as I expected. And honestly, I had no way to preview the shield before equiping it, thus binding it to one particular character.

I would have gladly moved the shield to another character and another ship, but that's not possible without spending ludicrous amount of EC/money for another shield.

tl'dr, due to them being so rare, Lockbox Vanity Shields should at the very least be made Bound to Account, so that players lucky enough to get them could move the items between all their chacaters on an account, not being stuck with just one character... I mean, the Omni-Beams that come from the weapon packs as rare rewards as well are indeed Bound to Account, so why not the vanity shields?

Founded in 2008, Stonewall Fleet is one of Star Trek Online's oldest and largest fleets, and we're proudly the premier LGBT and ally fleet within the game! Stonewall Fleet is the eponymous Alpha fleet of the Stonewall Armada, and the House of Nagh reD is the Klingon counterpart as Alpha Fleet in the Nagh reD Armada. With over 375 unique members and over 1,275 characters, we always have players online!

We are currently recruiting Gamma fleets in our Federation allied armada and both Beta and Gamma fleets in our KDF allied armada. Both faction's armadas have access to a common in-game armada chat channel to allow for inter-fleet communication and to facilitate in-game runs and activities. We hold regular in-game and out of game community events and our armada family members are invited and encouraged to join us for some of the most amazing events that the Star Trek Online community has to offer! The leadership from our armada member fleets comprise our Armada council, so as to maintain an active line of communication with each fleet and ensure inter-fleet cooperation and joint gameplay.

Being a member fleet of the Stonewall Armada comes with many benefits, and we'd encourage interested fleets to follow the application link below to learn about the perks of membership, as well as a few of the responsibilities that include minimum activity levels and abidance by our community Code of Conduct that includes maintaining a safe space in your respective communities for our LGBT and ally players.

Member fleets will become part of a very welcoming and fun community, giving you access to all the stores both in-game and out-of-game, social events, and shared online platforms. In addition, we believe in diversity! This means that you get access to all of these resources when affiliating with our Armadas, but you will remain autonomous and whatever makes your Fleet unique and defines your colour shall always remain so.

Stonewall's Star Trek Online presence is just one branch of the Stonewall Gaming Network (SGN), a multi-guild gaming community that includes presences in Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2, Dead by Daylight, Fortnite and Overwatch among many other games. We also have an active group on Steam that we welcome our members to join. By joining with one of our Armadas you will not only meet people playing STO, but will meet many different players in almost as many exciting online games all over the world!

    Captain, Romulan Warbird decloaking!

    Picard content:

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 09:12 AM PST

I really can't wait till we start seeing Picard content in game. Hopefully they will update the current Starfleet npc's to the current uniform. Update the transporter visuals. Id also love to see the Starfleet fighters used in the mars attack as hangar pets and a shuttle maybe from the Lobi store. They could even give us those red "synthetic" phasers Which I think would be awesome. Also wondering how they will change the Romulan's to match the show? Maybe edit the map to have the old neutral zone become some sort of area in conflict with Freecloud as a map for a mission maybe? And maybe a Fenris ranger base? What other content do u Guys think they will drop for us? Also hoping to see some Starfleet action in the few episodes we have left.

Random Giveaway: Europa & Federation Elite Starter Pack

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 07:02 AM PST

Won a few codes in the recent spate of giveaways and have some extra. I'm giving away 1 code for the Europa Battlecruiser and 2 codes for the Federation Elite Starter Pack. Just post over the next 12 hours with your favourite ship weapon/console from a visual standpoint, and I'll pick winners at random.

Edit: Just occurred to me - if you are not interested in one of the prizes (e.g. if you just want the Europa and not the starter pack), please state it so I can just roll for the one you are interested in. Thanks.

QoL request: remove defective endeavors, add missing endeavor categories.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 04:38 AM PST

Request one: please disable all hull healing / shield healing endeavors. These are simply broken, and don't register 95% of the heals thrown at them, making filling them an exercise in frustration. I skip these whenever possible now, alongside skipping anything that makes me do multiple TFOs.

Request two: There are some endeavor categories that appear to be missing: two that spring to mind are starship accuracy, and sector space travel speed. If these weren't excluded for some specific reason, they'd be nice to have.

Klingon War with friend - Taskforce Op hand in

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 08:06 AM PST

Hi all. First up sorry if this is a dumb 101 question but searching just isn't giving me the answer.

Background: Played STO back at PC launch, played it on PS4 launch and now back with a friend years later and so far the game is quite different! Or I'm being forgetful.

My friend and I are going through from level 1 and last night hit level 10 and completed the Klingon War. Except he didn't. Turns out only I turned in Task Force Operations Romulan Imperial Minefield and he can't. Does he have to launch it himself (after cool down) and lead the mission?

    Thanks

Can the Scimitar and all of it's variants get the Disco cloak effect?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 11:22 AM PST

Title, the Disco cloak we have in game is very close to the cloak we see in Nemesis. I do like the default cloak for most ships, but I since the Scimitar is supposed to be intimidating, feel like it deserves the more dramatic cloak.

OPINION: I should be able to change my outfit and the BOFF outfits on the ship.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 03:28 PM PST

Having to go to a Tailor to change outfits is annoying...particularly because I like to do it semi-often, or for particular mission types. Diplomatic mission? Everyone is in uniform and my toon is dressed to the nines as a Fleet Admiral. Tactical ground mission? Everyone is in armor, survival suits, etc.

At least give me a handful of presets I can use for BOFFs so I don't have to change every. single. item. every. single. time.

Or better yet....my toon and the BOFFs have a handful of presets and I can switch between the presets on the ship rather than having to go to a Tailor.

Also....console pleb here (I did play two toons on PC a couple of years ago, though)...does anyone else find the Tailor menu horrifically lacking in any semblance of optimization? I always experience severe input lag and the presets (which I skip over anyway) take forever to load...but I can't skip over them (or the input doesn't register) until after the presets load. SMH.

If my opinion is poorly informed, go easy on me. I'm an MMO noob. STO is pretty much my first, and many of its systems are still an enigma to me.

    Dyson Crusier idea

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 10:55 AM PST

OK long shot but I loved the Dyson science destroyer idea and play, now I feel like it is a relic of more civil times but with the release of the Khitomer Alliance Battle cruiser, I'm sure the Dyson series could return but maybe as either Science Battle Crusiers or as T6 Science destroyers. So for example as a Battle Crusier stats at level 65

Hull:52000 Hull Mod: 1.1 Shield Mod: 1.4 Turn Rate: 10 Impulse Mod: 0.14 Intertia rating: 50 Bonus Power: +10 to weapon and aux power Bridge officer slots: unsure but maybe a tact/command or intel Weapons: 4+1 Front, 3 Rear - can equip dual cannons Device Slots: 3 Consoles: 4 tact, 2 Eng, 5 Sci Abilities: Weapon System Efficiency, Shield Frequency Modulation (when in tact mode) Subsystem Targeting, Sensor Analysis (Sciense Mode)

And then the normal stuff including the secondary deflector and fixed Solanae dual heavy proton cannons

    Personal Starbase

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 08:35 PM PST

Second time, I think, to create a new post and I hope I'm not out of line here by doing so, but I have an idea that I think would be pretty cool. Especially if we could get the traction to make the creators take notice.

Picture flying or transwqrping to your own private starbase somewhere out in space of your choosing where all characters you have on your account are always constantly hanging out and appear to be having conversations with each other. Then throw in mail, exchange, a couple of gear and ship mechanics and a merchant and you have your own place, ideally with little to no lag, to do maintenance on whichever active character you happen to be on. Ooh and decorator mode for internal and external designs because you also need to have your captains current ships represented outside in space dock.

And finally add in the ability to allow friends to come in and take a look around at all you've accomplished. A showoff feature if you will.

Anyways, what do you guys think? Am I way off base hoping this could be a thing? I doubt anyone from the company would ever see this but I can always dream right?

    Klingon version of defiant??

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 08:53 AM PST

So I just hit 61 for my klingon tactical officer. For my fed t5u ship I got the defiant and have really loved it ever since. Moves like an escort hits like a battleship and takes just a little more damage than a ship its size should be able to. I want to recreate that in my klingon but none of my choices seem to fit the mold. The carrier seems like the tac officers choice but I imagine its gonna be pretty slow and use mainly beams. So I'm thinking the b'rel but I'm afraid its low health. Any help experts?

Is there a way to stay at K-13?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 07:15 PM PST

If I'm in orbit of K-13 or inside the station when I log out, I'm in sector space when I log back in. Is there any way for me to stay in K-13 orbit or inside the station so I'm still there when I log back in? I'd much rather be there with my TOS captain than the multi-timeline multi-universe hive that is ESD.

A leveled up character in 23c ESD, sure I get. I mean, that's what I was doing there too. But this character is a) wearing a section 31 uniform and b) is flying a T6 Federation ship. How is this possible if you've stayed in the TOS timeline?

    Newish player questions

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 07:43 AM PST

Hey I'm a relatively new player, still f2p trying to complete all the free missions and story lines. One of my biggest concerns is running out of space in my inventory. Looking around online I cant find any simple explanation of how to manage your items well. Idk if I should be just tossing a lot of stuff until I one day maybe get a membership, or should I be selling them. And if I am selling them, where and how do I know what to price them if I use the exchange?

Legendary Konnie's 5th Weapon Slot is Not Working as Intended Despite "Fix"

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 09:26 PM PST

According to the patch notes on 2/20/20, under Ships fixes:

"Adjusted the firing nodes on the Kelvin Constitution Beyond Refit so that phasers in the 5th node fire from the correct spot on the hull."

    Here's a shot I took...

    https://i.imgur.com/xxfkYlb.jpg

Unfortunately, the fix was not implemented properly, and now phasers in the 5th node(5th weapon slot fore) fire from the exact same hardpoint as the 3rd and 4th nodes (3rd and 4th weapon slot fore). This leaves the two aft turrets on the Beyond Refit saucer dead/not firing, and the ship only fires two out of three turrets, per side. Sent a ticket in already, but figured I'd post it in r/sto as well.
