[Fanfiction] 'A Night Long Debated' Part 2

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 08:16 AM PDT

    (EARTH SPACE DOCK, 2411)

Jorel Quinn looked out the panoramic windows of Earth Space Dock as he walked back to his office. The area was much busier than usual. Dozens of starships had returned to the Sol system for maintenance after pulling out of Klingon space.

As his gaze wandered from ship to ship, an enormous shadow slowly engulfed the Trill and the entire hallway. The Enterprise sailed across the vista like a whale swimming through the ocean. The massive vessel's impulse engines powered up as it turned to leave the system. Quinn knew by this point her captain was back on board. That realization brought a scowl to the admiral's face -- that evening's meeting had not gone well.

The Civil War had taken a heavy toll on the entire quadrant, but this most recent crisis was especially testing for Starfleet's morale. As Quinn walked up the stairs to his office, his thoughts shifted back to the last Klingon civil war. The Trill was just a young officer then, but he remembered the pride his fellow shipmates on the USS Sutherland felt after exposing the Romulan connection to the Duras family. This time around, there was little pride to be found and only shades of grey to be seen.

"Computer, seal the doors. Activate office blinds." The glass partition slid down from Quinn's ceiling as the transparency slowly turned opaque.

The admiral sunk into his chair before noticing one of his padds had yet again fallen under the desk. Quinn dropped to a knee to retrieve the wayward file, but before he could stand a cold chill swept over him as a pair of boots appeared on the other side of the desk.

"I'd hate to be in your shoes right about now, admiral."

Quinn slowly rose to his feet. As his eyes ascended above the desk, the mysterious figure in a gold tunic came into view.

"But of course, I've already had enough problems with the Klingons to last a lifetime," the intruder said cavalierly.

Quinn's expression changed from shock to one of annoyance.

"Don't you temporal agents believe in knocking?" the admiral asked.

"Sure, but as my new friends from the future like to say, 'tempus fugit,'" the visitor in a 23rd century uniform replied. "Which brings me to why I'm here tonight admiral."

Quinn returned to his chair, extending his hand to invite his guest to sit.

"Are you trying to tell me the Klingon Civil War is a temporal matter now?" the Trill asked. "This isn't 2270 anymore captain, we don't slingshot around a sun every time we think history needs fixing."

The captain smirked as he took a seat.

"As fun as that would be, I'm afraid that's not why I'm here admiral. What's done is done. Just like Captain Scott and the crew of the Bozeman, House Mokai is now very much a 25th century problem. Returning them to the past would unravel too many events throughout the timeline. J'mpok's defeat has become what we like to call a 'fixed point' in history."

Quinn sat puzzled as he tried guess the motives of his guest.

"No, this isn't about changing what has already happened, it's about preserving what has yet to come," the temporal agent revealed.

"Are you trying to say Lrell and Jula will somehow disrupt future events?" Quinn asked. "How?"

"How could they not?" the agent said in a much colder tone.

"You've met with Daniels, you know where the events of your time must lead. The Klingon Empire is destined to become the strong right arm of the Federation. Without them, we cannot win at Procyon V. The fate of this entire universe, perhaps other realities as well, are riding on a united Federation to stop the Sphere Builders. That future means bringing the Klingons into the Federation."

The words Procyon V rang in the Trill's ears. Quinn was one of the few Starfleet officers native to 2411 with knowledge of the Temporal War and the Temporal Accords. He knew the stakes and the role the Galactic Alliance he had been building over the last year would play in it.

"Unless you're here with proof from the future, who's to say Lrell won't become the leader who joins the Federation?" the admiral said, challenging his visitor from the past.

The captain's smirk returned as he gave a quick eye roll.

"The clone, whose house motto is literally 'remain Klingon' is going to convince a fractured empire to abide by Federation governance? I admire your optimism sir, but not even General Martok is that naive. He simply doesn't want the job anymore."

A cold and determined look overtook Quinn's face. It was time to cut to the chase.

"If you have a message to deliver, let's have it," the admiral said sharply.

The officer in the gold tunic rose to his feet.

"Alright. You and I both know this new government is a transitional step in the wrong direction. Having lived in that era 160 years ago, take it from me, none of us cold war relics, myself included, should be leading a galactic power into an era of peace. Leaders like Worf and Kagran are the Empire's future, warriors who inspire through their actions, not their ideologies."

The captain walked over to Quinn's display of ships, smiling as he gently tapped the saucer of a Constitution-class model.

"There are many warriors with a great deal of respect for Starfleet now admiral, throwing your support behind the right one now will mean saving lives later."

The temporal agent's suggestion was more cunning than the words Quinn had just heard at the conference, but its bending of the Prime Directive still made him recoil.

"And if we choose to let history play out for itself?"

The captain reached for a communicator under the back of his tunic.

"I didn't start the Battle of Procyon V admiral, but I'm liable to finish it. That timeline and this universe will be preserved -- one way or another."

The officer faded away in a golden haze of a classic transporter beam.

Quinn sat alone, silent in his office, still sealed from the inside. He placed his fallen padd back on his desk. The words Procyon V continued to ring in his ears.

"The needs of the many..." the Trill whispered.

Quinn punched in a series a numerical codes into his comm terminal, leading to a shadowy figure with a deep scar on his face appearing on the screen.

"Admiral, good to see you again, what can my section do for you this evening?"

Dear character art devs, thank you for your amazing work! (and a few requests)

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 08:09 AM PDT

First thank you for all of your amazing work! More specifically, thank you for all of the amazing new hairstyles you have added over the past year. On that note, I have a few requests:

1: please add the new hairstyles (that will work) to the alien>rigged head type. I know some hairstyles don't work with rigged heads, but those that work with the KDF species rigged head should also work with the alien rigged head so please add these options for rigged head aliens.

2: same as above except for the facial hair. Klingons aren't the only ones that deserve awesome facial hair, so please add the new beards/goatees to the alien (and any other species that are supposed to have facial hair).

3: please add the bolted eyepatch option to the alien species.

4: this is going to sound a little crazy, but...please add a second hairstyle slot. Champions Online already has this, and it allows people to mix 2 different hairstyles. While that might sound odd, it actually creates some really cool looks. And because it's hair, "clipping" isn't a problem (no pun intended) like with other costume parts.

Those area all of the ideas I have, but feel free to share your own.

And thanks again to the character art devs, your work is most certainly noticed and appreciated by everyone who plays the game!

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 08:41 AM PDT

I am not able to get the Admiralty cards for these three ships for my new Delta and KDF recruits. Both are level 65, and have all the other admiralty cards including the Risan Weather ship. I've tried reclaiming and opening their boxes on both multiple times.

What happened to the Klingon signs in First City?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 12:39 PM PDT

The signs in First City used to be in Klingon and only changed to English when you got up close. Now, the signs are always in English. What happened to the Klingon signs? Did they go the way of the Klingon computer voice?

How do I discharge starships, shuttlecraft and bridge crew?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 10:52 PM PDT

How do I discharge starships, shuttlecraft and bridge crew?

So I've ran into a snag while playing STO. For some unknown reason to me, STO has been preventing me from discharging any starships, shuttlecraft or bridge crews that I've earned through missions or increase in rank. The screenshot may explain why this is. Someone please help!🥺🙏

For some reason I cannot fathom, the OK button is always disabled on the \"DISCHARGE SHIP\" dialog which prevents a ship discharge. Is this a game bug?

EDIT: Turns out, I was just being a dummy not knowing the edit control in the dialog would clear itself as soon as I start typing LOL. Thanks to u/Fleffle for the immediate help!
