    2021: Year of Romulan?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 02:00 AM PDT

With 2020-21 being Year of Klingon, might 2021-22 be Year of Romulan?

Like the Klingons, it hasn't been overhauled under the engine updates (to my knowledge).

And with PIC S1 being so Romulan-heavy, I'm thinking YOR will be their way of integrating PIC's storylines into the game (somehow) without retconning Hobus and all the previous content that would require rewriting and revamping years of content.

The YOK has likely been in the works since at least this time last year, considering the dev time needed for such things, plus to allow for breaks in YOK dev for "Measure of Morality" and other content. So with YOK winding down, they're probably starting up on YOR.

The forthcoming Legendary T'Liss BOP, too, is probably 1) to get the PIC revamp into the game, 2) to get a sampling of demand for Rom content, and 3) to whet our appetites, even if briefly, for new Rom content.

Plus, WHO LEFT YOU THE REPUTATION VIDEO FILE YOU FIND IN THAT BUSH ON NEW ROMULUS?!?!!??

Framerate drops to 1 FPS when running CombatLog with lots of players

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 10:02 AM PDT

When doing Crystaline Catastrophe with CombatLog running, when everyone opens fire at the beginning of the fight, my FPS drops to less than one frame per second (completely unplayable) for a good 15-20 seconds. It eventually recovers, but by that time the fight is half over and i'm usually dead. Obviously this makes the instance unplayable if i can't really do anything for half the fight.

It doesn't happen if i have combatlog disabled, and it doesn't happen when i run combatlog in solo or 5-person content.

I have a very powerful gaming rig, but i turned the graphics down anyway, and that had no effect. I was considering moving the whole game to another hard drive, but i found this old thread where several people were having the same problem, and they reported moving the log had no effect: https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/68fpsq/combatlog_freezes_the_game_and_keep_my_ssd_to_100/

There isn't any resolution in that thread other than "oh it seemed to stop happening" so i was wondering if anyone else had experienced and/or found a solution.

PS - is there a way to tell the game to create the log in a different location? (i.e. a different hard drive)

Kobayashi Maru...opinions on how it has been visualized

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 10:00 AM PDT

As far as I know there have been only two fully fleshed out versions of this vessel, STO's version and the John Eaves version from Star Trek (2009). While STO's version is a gorgeous looking ship, the mass devoted to cargo seems insufficient for it's function. The John Eaves version seems more logical, given the much larger transport capacity and the pre-TOS aesthetic (after all, Kirk trained on this simulation in his academy years).

However...the Kobayashi Maru was a civilian transport, so the Starfleet saucer and nacelles are questionable...do you think it should look quite a bit different than we've seen represented?

Just asking for your personal opinions cause it occurred to me and maybe I'm bored ;)

Can we figure a way to do veteran rewards on console?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 08:37 AM PDT

I hate that the only way console players can get veteran rewards is if they buy the lifetime subscription. I hate that. I mean its crap like alternate uniforms like the Odyssey Long tunic. That's something that should be unlockable for people who dont have $160+ to spend.

EDIT: I was unaware that monthly susbsciptions for PC are no longer a thing.

So can there be a better way for PC AND console to get access to these rewards without having to buy the 'cult' package?

Drozana Station - Can't begin missions

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 08:04 PM PDT

Hi, semi-new player here(I really, really like the game a lot, can't believe I didn't start playing earlier), I can't seem to figure out how to get to the lower maintenance levels in Drozana station(I mainly want the Transwarp ability for the Tour of Duty). I've walked around the place several times. Talked to everyone I can think of. My character mentions the lights to a character behind the bar, but he says something like it isn't a big deal, watch those drinks they aren't synthale.

When I step off the transporter pad it looks like a lift right there, but I can't get any kind of interaction with it. I don't have the mission "What Lies Beneath" or "Spin The Wheel" anywhere in my available/in progress that I can see.

I'm a federation player. According to a few things I've seen it looks like everyone should be able to access those lower levels.

I imagine I'm missing something obvious as I can't find more than a few people having similar trouble and I can't see how to get it to work based on those posts.

    I appreciate any guidance.

Do "Chance to beam in additional turrets" DOFFs also cover polaron?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 07:02 AM PDT

My JH-Eng has a purple Armory Officer with the "Chance to beam in an additional Phaser, Disruptor or Plasma Turret" DOFF on Active Ground Duty. The DOFF's buff description doesn't specifically mention polaron energy, so do those DOFFs also cover polaron turrets?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 02:58 AM PDT

Just as the title states. For those that own the ship already, Thinking of picking it up but don't really want to get lumbered with the Origin bridge. Would love to use a TOS bridge!
