Star Trek Online Dear Cryptic... Please, please, please give us an option to turn off other players ability fx. There's more space wizardry in this 15 second clip than in 60 years of Star Trek TV. Fps improvement for pc and less headaches all round. Thanks

Re-integrate and Remake Specters Arc for 2400 Starfleet

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 07:02 AM PDT

Since the newest Delta Toon rerun I noticed something particularly odd about the 2410 Starfleet Side. In comparison to their Fed and Klingon counterparts, Starfleet has by far the least amount of missions, two arcs shorter than the other two. As someone who adores the Specters mission chain and thinks its the best fit for a Fed character, why don't the devs just throw some new paint on the Arc and reintegrate it as an official Arc for Federation characters much how like Nimbus is used for the Romulan progression? While I think its fine as is, if it did get touched up a new version of "bonnie-kin" would be really scary. Also, just imagining redone cutscenes with McCoy and Scotty with the new character animations, it is very exciting to imagine what the team could put out. Just a thought.

I actually feel Remain Klingon's design is a step in the right direction for TFOs.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 09:49 PM PDT

Most event TFOs are focused on obvious timegates, typically doing nothing but clearing out enemies and pushing interacts. Your actions don't mean anything, and you can AFK and still get credit. The timer ticking down in the sidebar is the only thing that matters. They are boring.

The timegate for Remain Klingon (dreadnought weapon firing) is not an obvious timer ticking down, but instead feels like part of the mission. Whether it goes slowly or quickly is up to the players' actions. I actually feel engaged, paying attention whether I am targeted by the dreadnoughts and moving back and forth.

There's no need to clear mobs to push interacts, so it rewards tweaking your build towards speed. DPS is important, but it is not the only focus.

The only weakness, I feel, is how it is reliant on everyone in the team knowing what to do, and that is something that can be mitigated in future design.

All in all, in contrast to most event TFOs, I feel like I'm actually playing the game in Remain Klingon as opposed to waiting for the timer to run out. And that's something I want to see in future TFOs.

Dear Cryptic, please give us a better UI layout & management

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 11:21 PM PDT

So to start this in a bit of a roundabout way -- I've been watching MC Stu's latest STO build video , and it hit me that either he has a giant screen , or he shrunk his UI to allow for two horizontal power bars (without sacrificing any of the other UI elements) .

    https://youtu.be/XhM8A4EglkI

I admit , I was a bit envious of this setup ... -- however ... , if he did shrink his UI to get this ... look / functionality , that does explain the occasional miss-clicks on the power bars (the miss-clicks are an ongoing in-joke in his videos).

But to get to the point , the current status of the game looks like this :

Cryptic shoveled in powers into the game like there's no tomorrow , while their UI is basically from 2009 , with a single function modification at some point -- which also included the addition of a second power bar that lacks configuration options (it's still "rows of 10" or nothing) .

The 10 powers per row is woefully insufficient by now for many people -- either because it's too short for the primary power bar , or too big for a secondary power bar -- and we either end up covering up the game with ungodly stacks of the main power bar , or shrink the UI to the point where it's less then functional , or just not using all the powers available to us , because the current UI layout sucks .

I know that the UI has been a nemesis for Cryptic in more than one way over the years , but considering the polish they put into the game in terms of visuals , perhaps it's time to take another look at how the UI is set up both for advanced players and in the Tutorial .

Advanced players need more then 10 powers per row in their primary powers bar (yes, even if that means the option of 20 powers per row , if the math / engine doesn't allow for anything else but [x 2]) , and additional smaller bars would be nice too (with powers ranging from 2-5 per bar if possible) .

More customization options would also be welcome -- for example, all UI elements should be available to individually resize (like we can the mini-map) -- as we don't need our shield monitor or our weapons fire monitor to be the same size as our speed control slider .

The Tutorial set up is still bad for different reasons (energy distribution / consumption is set to the tiny numbers option instead of the far clearer chart based visuals) , and the chat is still a mishmash of rubbish settings that needs to both be trimmed and at least one or two tabs added , with the option of less or more data included -- instead of the current "throw in everything" approach that obscures & interferes with both Zone chat and PM's .

PSA: last Christmas all Mudd's bundles were 75% off

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 05:52 PM PDT

The new Mudd's bundle looks great and even at 50% is a good deal, but for any that may not have been around last year, last Christmas all Mudd's bundles were on sale for 75% off. Just FYI for any that may want to wait!

    Vengeance or Jem'Hadar Vanguard Warship

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 08:33 AM PDT

I use beams a lot and the console looks great and maybe the trait too.

Is Vengeance ship itself better than the Vanguard Warship? It doesn't look like it, but I wanted to ask.

Temporal Ambassador broken again- mission is impossible to complete.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 08:16 AM PDT

Since the updated Azure Nebula map was added to this mission the mission had become impossible to complete.

The cutscene for the NPC ship showing up to defeat the Tarantula occured before it should- renders mission incomplete as you cant kill the Tarantula(it stays at 1%)

Also, ever since the updated Azure Nebula map was added the "now u c me" accolade is unobtainable.

Really I hate that everything I post here has to be a complaint about a bug... >_>

Cryptic- can you just hire some competent programmers? Seriously guys, you have the money from all the gambelboxes- fix your sh*t!

What is new in the story?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 06:59 AM PDT

So what's new with the story? I'm logging in for the first time in about a year, and it seems the Klingon missions are very different. Are the Federation or Romulan missions different as well? And what's with this Delta time travel/finding items thing?

    Terran Empire Species

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 11:34 AM PDT

Since the next arc might be Mirror Universe themed here's a list of races conquered by the Terran Empire.

The Empire is known to constitute members of the following races:

    • Terrans (primary)
    • Andorians
    • Aenar
    • Bajorans
    • Benzites
    • Denobulans
    • Orions
    • Tellarites
    • Vulcans

Might have to add Caitians and Kelpians to the list to keep it similar to their Prime counterparts, I'm also curious about biological differences between Prime and Mirror Races like the Terran sensitivity to light and the Vulcan preference towards goatees.
